Detailed English Explanation
“And if ye call on the Father”
Peter begins with the believer’s relationship with God. Christians call upon God as Father. This is a beautiful expression of closeness, relationship, and dependence.
Calling God “Father” means that believers are not simply following religious rules. They have a relationship with the One who created them, loves them, guides them, and calls them to holiness. A child who truly respects a loving father desires to live in a way that honors him.
Therefore, calling upon God as Father should influence the way a believer lives. Prayer and worship should not be separated from daily conduct. If we call upon God as Father, our lives should demonstrate that we belong to Him.
“Who without respect of persons”
This phrase teaches us something important about the character of God. God does not judge people according to worldly standards such as wealth, social position, popularity, family background, nationality, or human status.
People often show favoritism. Someone may receive special treatment because of money, influence, education, appearance, or social position. God, however, is perfectly just.
He sees every person clearly. He knows the heart, motives, choices, and actions of every individual. No outward position can cause God to ignore sin, and no human reputation can replace genuine obedience.
This should encourage believers to remain humble. We cannot depend upon our name, position, religious background, or reputation before God. What matters is whether we are sincerely walking in faith and obedience.
“Judgeth according to every man’s work”
Peter reminds his readers that God judges according to every person’s work. This does not mean that people can earn salvation through good works. The broader message of the New Testament teaches that salvation is connected with God’s grace and faith.
Rather, Peter is emphasizing that a person’s conduct matters. Genuine faith should produce a transformed life.
God sees what people do, but He also knows why they do it. A person may perform an outwardly good action while having a selfish or proud motive. God sees beyond appearances.
This truth should encourage Christians to examine their lives. How do we treat other people? How do we use our time? How do we respond when we are treated unfairly? Are we honest when nobody is watching? Do we forgive others? Do we live according to God’s Word?
The knowledge that God sees our works should not lead to hopeless fear. Instead, it should encourage us to live faithfully and sincerely.
“Pass the time of your sojourning here”
Peter describes earthly life as a sojourn. This means a temporary stay.
Human beings can become so focused on earthly possessions, success, comfort, and recognition that they forget life is temporary. Peter calls believers to remember that their present life is not the final destination.
This perspective can change the way we live.
If life is temporary, we should use our time wisely. We should invest our energy in things that have lasting value. We should love others, serve God, practice righteousness, encourage people, and remain faithful during difficult circumstances.
The phrase “pass the time” also reminds us that time is continually moving. Every day is an opportunity that cannot be recovered once it has passed.
“In fear”
The final phrase is the heart of the verse: “pass the time of your sojourning here in fear.”
Biblical fear of God is not merely terror. It includes reverence, awe, respect, humility, and recognition of God’s holiness.
A person who fears God understands that God is greater than humanity and that His authority deserves respect.
This kind of fear can protect a believer from careless living. When we remember that God sees us and that our choices matter, we become more careful about our words, thoughts, relationships, and actions.
Holy fear does not push believers away from God. Instead, it should draw them toward Him with humility and obedience.

Detailed Urdu Explanation
“And if ye call on the Father”
“Who without respect of persons”
“Judgeth according to every man’s work”
“Pass the time of your sojourning here”
“In fear”
