Detailed Explanation in English

1. “But the word of the Lord endureth for ever”

The central statement of this verse is simple but profound: the Word of the Lord endures forever.

The word “endureth” communicates the idea of continuing, remaining, and lasting. Everything around us is subject to change. Human life has a beginning and an end. Possessions can disappear. Physical strength declines. Governments rise and fall. Popular opinions change. Even things that appear extremely permanent can eventually pass away.

But the Word of the Lord is different.

God’s Word does not depend upon human circumstances for its truth. Its authority does not increase when people accept it, nor does its truth disappear when people reject it. The Word remains true because its source is God.

This gives believers a strong foundation for faith. Christian faith is not supposed to rest merely on human wisdom, traditions, emotions, or temporary circumstances. It rests upon the promises and truth of God.

2. The contrast with human life

The previous verse says:

“For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass.”

Peter uses the picture of grass and flowers to describe human life and human glory. Grass may appear green and beautiful for a season, but it eventually dries up. A flower may be attractive for a short time, but its beauty does not last forever.

This is an important reminder about the temporary nature of earthly life.

People may spend enormous amounts of time pursuing wealth, recognition, influence, physical beauty, education, careers, or possessions. These things can have legitimate value, but none of them can provide eternal security.

Peter directs our attention away from temporary things toward what lasts forever.

Human glory fades.

The Word of the Lord endures forever.

This does not mean that every human accomplishment is meaningless. Rather, it teaches us to place eternal things above temporary things.

3. God’s Word is dependable

Because the Word of the Lord endures forever, believers can depend upon it.

When life becomes uncertain, God’s Word remains certain. When emotions change, God’s truth remains unchanged. When circumstances become difficult, God’s promises continue to provide hope.

A Christian may experience suffering, disappointment, rejection, or uncertainty, but these circumstances do not change what God has spoken.

This is one reason Scripture has such an important place in Christian life. Reading and studying the Bible is not merely an intellectual exercise. It allows believers to continually hear and remember God’s truth.

4. “And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you”

Peter then explains which Word he is talking about. He connects the enduring Word directly with the gospel.

The gospel is the good news concerning Jesus Christ, His saving work, His death, resurrection, and the salvation offered through Him.

Peter tells his readers that the message they received through gospel preaching is connected with the eternal Word of God.

This is important because Christianity is not simply a collection of moral teachings. At its heart is a message of God’s saving work.

The gospel tells people that salvation is found through Jesus Christ and that God’s grace offers new life to those who believe.

5. The gospel brings lasting hope

The gospel is powerful because it announces something that lasts beyond this temporary life.

Earthly achievements cannot guarantee eternal life. Wealth cannot purchase salvation. Human reputation cannot remove sin. Physical strength cannot defeat death.

But the gospel points people toward Jesus Christ and the eternal hope found in Him.

Therefore, the message of the gospel is not merely useful for a particular generation. It remains relevant to every generation.

The needs of humanity remain deeply connected to questions of sin, forgiveness, purpose, death, hope, and reconciliation with God. The gospel addresses these eternal questions.

6. The Word gives stability in a changing world

We live in a world where information changes constantly. Opinions change quickly. Social trends come and go. What is popular today may be forgotten tomorrow.

This verse gives Christians a different foundation.

God’s Word is not merely another changing opinion.

It is enduring.

That means believers can return to Scripture repeatedly and find guidance, correction, encouragement, wisdom, and hope.

This does not mean that every personal interpretation is automatically correct. Christians should study Scripture carefully, consider its context, and seek to understand its message faithfully. But the underlying truth of God’s Word remains permanent.

7. The Word and spiritual rebirth

The surrounding passage also connects God’s enduring Word with being born again.

Peter says that believers have been born again, not through corruptible seed, but through incorruptible seed by the Word of God, which lives and abides forever.

This teaches that the Christian life is not simply about improving one’s behavior. It begins with spiritual transformation.

The gospel brings the message of Christ, and God’s Word works through that message to call people to faith, repentance, and new life.

The believer therefore has a new foundation.

Instead of building life only upon temporary human achievements, the Christian is called to build upon God’s enduring truth.

8. A lesson for everyday Christian life

1 Peter 1:25 challenges us to ask what we are building our lives upon.

If we build entirely upon money, money can disappear.

If we build upon popularity, popularity can disappear.

If we build upon physical strength, strength eventually declines.

If we build upon human approval, people can change their opinions.

But if we build our faith upon the enduring Word of the Lord, we have a foundation that does not change with circumstances.

This does not mean Christians will never experience difficulties. Instead, it means they have an unchanging truth to hold onto during those difficulties.

9. The eternal value of sharing the gospel

Peter also gives encouragement to those who preach and share the gospel.

Human communication can sometimes appear insignificant. A person may wonder whether sharing the message of Christ will really make a difference.

But Peter reminds us that the gospel is connected with the enduring Word of God.

A sermon, Bible study, conversation, testimony, or written explanation of Scripture may seem small in human eyes, but God’s Word has eternal significance.

Therefore, Christians should faithfully communicate the gospel with humility, love, truth, and compassion.

10. The main message of 1 Peter 1:25

The central message can be summarized in three truths:

  1. Human life is temporary.
  2. Human glory eventually fades.
  3. The Word of the Lord endures forever.

Therefore, believers should not place their ultimate hope in temporary things.

The gospel that is preached is the enduring Word of God, and its message continues to offer hope, truth, and salvation.
