Numbers Chapter 1: The Final Count
Verse 45
Verse: So were all those that were numbered of the children of Israel by the house of their fathers from twenty years old and upward all that were able to go forth to war in Israel English Explanation: This verse concludes the census criteria, focusing on men twenty years and older who were physically capable of military service. Urdu Explanation: اس آیت میں ان تمام اسرائیلی مردوں کا ذکر ختم ہوتا ہے جن کی عمر بیس سال یا اس سے زیادہ تھی اور جو جنگ کے قابل تھے۔
Verse 46
Verse: Even all they that were numbered were six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty English Explanation: The total military strength of the twelve tribes (excluding Levi) was 603,550 men. Urdu Explanation: کل تعداد جو شمار کی گئی وہ چھ لاکھ تین ہزار پانچ سو پچاس تھی۔
Verse 47
Verse: But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not numbered among them English Explanation: The Levites were exempt from this military census because their purpose was spiritual, not martial. Urdu Explanation: لیکن لاویوں کو ان کے باپ دادا کے قبیلے کے مطابق ان کے ساتھ شمار نہیں کیا گیا تھا۔
Verse 48
Verse: For the LORD had spoken unto Moses saying English Explanation: God explicitly instructed Moses regarding the unique status of the Levites. Urdu Explanation: کیونکہ خداوند نے موسیٰ سے کلام کرتے ہوئے یہ فرمایا تھا۔
Verse 49
Verse: Only thou shalt not number the tribe of Levi neither take the sum of them among the children of Israel English Explanation: God commanded that the Levites be kept separate from the general population count. Urdu Explanation: تو صرف لاوی کے قبیلے کو شمار نہ کرنا اور نہ ہی بنی اسرائیل میں ان کا میزان لینا۔
Verse 50
Verse: But thou shalt appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of testimony and over all the vessels thereof and over all things that belong to it they shall bear the tabernacle and all the vessels thereof and they shall minister unto it and shall encamp round about the tabernacle English Explanation: The Levites were appointed as caretakers of the Tabernacle, responsible for its transport and maintenance. Urdu Explanation: بلکہ تم لاویوں کو شہادت کے خیمے اور اس کے تمام ظروف پر مقرر کرنا۔ وہ خیمہ اٹھائیں گے اور اس کی خدمت کریں گے۔
Verse 51
Verse: And when the tabernacle setteth forward the Levites shall take it down and when the tabernacle is to be pitched the Levites shall set it up and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death English Explanation: Only Levites could handle the Tabernacle; any unauthorized person (“stranger”) approaching it faced the death penalty. Urdu Explanation: جب خیمہ آگے بڑھے گا تو لاوی اسے اتاریں گے اور جب اسے لگانا ہو گا تو لاوی ہی اسے کھڑا کریں گے۔ کوئی اجنبی قریب آئے گا تو مارا جائے گا۔
Verse 52
Verse: And the children of Israel shall pitch their tents every man by his own camp and every man by his own standard throughout their hosts English Explanation: The tribes were to camp in an organized fashion, grouped by their specific tribal banners. Urdu Explanation: اور بنی اسرائیل اپنے اپنے لشکر اور جھنڈے کے مطابق خیمے لگائیں گے۔
Verse 53
Verse: But the Levites shall pitch round about the tabernacle of testimony that there be no wrath upon the congregation of the children of Israel and the Levites shall keep the charge of the tabernacle of testimony English Explanation: By camping around the Tabernacle, the Levites acted as a buffer to protect the rest of Israel from God’s holy wrath. Urdu Explanation: لیکن لاوی شہادت کے خیمے کے گرد ڈیرے ڈالیں تاکہ بنی اسرائیل کی جماعت پر خدا کا غضب نازل نہ ہو۔
Verse 54
Verse: And the children of Israel did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses so did they English Explanation: This highlights the complete obedience of the Israelites to God’s organizational commands. Urdu Explanation: اور بنی اسرائیل نے بالکل ویسا ہی کیا جیسا خداوند نے موسیٰ کو حکم دیا تھا۔
Numbers Chapter 2: The Camp Arrangement
Verse 1 & 2
Verse: And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron saying Every man of the children of Israel shall pitch by his own standard with the ensign of their fathers house far off about the tabernacle of the congregation shall they pitch English Explanation: God defines the layout of the camp. Every tribe must group under their family banner, facing the Tabernacle from a distance. Urdu Explanation: خدا نے موسیٰ اور ہارون کو حکم دیا کہ ہر شخص اپنے خاندانی جھنڈے کے پاس خیمہ لگائے لیکن خیمہِ اجتماع سے فاصلے پر۔
Verse 3 & 4 (Judah)
Verse: And on the east side toward the rising of the sun shall they of the standard of the camp of Judah pitch throughout their armies and Nahshon the son of Amminadab shall be captain of the children of Judah And his host and those that were numbered of them were threescore and fourteen thousand and six hundred English Explanation: Judah leads the Eastern side with 74,600 men. Nahshon is their leader. Urdu Explanation: مشرق کی طرف یہوداہ کا لشکر ہو گا جس کی تعداد چوہتر ہزار چھ سو ہے۔ ان کا سردار نحشون ہے۔
Verse 5 & 6 (Issachar)
Verse: And those that do pitch next unto him shall be the tribe of Issachar and Nethaneel the son of Zuar shall be captain of the children of Issachar And his host and those that were numbered thereof were fifty and four thousand and four hundred English Explanation: Issachar camps next to Judah with 54,400 men. Urdu Explanation: یہوداہ کے ساتھ یسکار کا قبیلہ ہو گا جس کی تعداد چوّن ہزار چار سو ہے۔
Verse 7 & 8 (Zebulun)
Verse: Then the tribe of Zebulun and Eliab the son of Helon shall be captain of the children of Zebulun And his host and those that were numbered thereof were fifty and seven thousand and four hundred English Explanation: Zebulun completes the Eastern division with 57,400 men. Urdu Explanation: پھر زبولون کا قبیلہ ہو گا جس کی تعداد ستاون ہزار چار سو ہے۔
Verse 9
Verse: All that were numbered in the camp of Judah were an hundred thousand and fourscore thousand and six thousand and four hundred throughout their armies These shall first set forth English Explanation: The total for the Eastern camp (Judah, Issachar, Zebulun) was 186,400. They marched first. Urdu Explanation: یہوداہ کے کیمپ کی کل تعداد ایک لاکھ چھیاسی ہزار چار سو تھی اور یہ سب سے پہلے کوچ کریں گے۔
Verse 10 & 11 (Reuben)
Verse: On the south side shall be the standard of the camp of Reuben according to their armies and the captain of the children of Reuben shall be Elizur the son of Shedeur And his host and those that were numbered thereof were forty and six thousand and five hundred English Explanation: Reuben leads the Southern side with 46,500 men. Urdu Explanation: جنوب کی طرف روبن کا جھنڈا ہو گا اور ان کی تعداد چھیالیس ہزار پانچ سو ہے۔
Verse 12 – 15 (Simeon & Gad)
Verse: And those which pitch by him shall be the tribe of Simeon… and the tribe of Gad… English Explanation: Simeon (59,300) and Gad (45,650) camp alongside Reuben on the South. Urdu Explanation: شمعون (59,300) اور جاد (45,650) کے قبائل روبن کے ساتھ جنوبی سمت میں ہوں گے۔
Verse 16
Verse: All that were numbered in the camp of Reuben were an hundred thousand and fifty and one thousand and four hundred and fifty throughout their armies And they shall set forth in the second rank English Explanation: The total Southern camp was 151,450. They marched second. Urdu Explanation: روبن کے کیمپ کی کل تعداد ایک لاکھ اکیاون ہزار چار سو پچاس تھی اور یہ دوسرے نمبر پر کوچ کریں گے۔
Verse 17
Verse: Then the tabernacle of the congregation shall set forward with the camp of the Levites in the midst of the camp as they encamp so shall they set forward every man in his place by their standards English Explanation: The Tabernacle and Levites moved in the center of the marching tribes to signify God being at the heart of the nation. Urdu Explanation: خیمہِ اجتماع اور لاوی تمام لشکروں کے درمیان میں چلیں گے تاکہ خدا ان کے مرکز میں رہے۔
Verse 18 – 24 (Ephraim, Manasseh, Benjamin)
Verse: On the west side shall be the standard of the camp of Ephraim… English Explanation: The Western camp consisted of Ephraim (40,500), Manasseh (32,200), and Benjamin (35,400), totaling 108,100. They marched third. Urdu Explanation: مغرب کی طرف افرائیم، منسی اور بنیمین کے قبائل ہوں گے۔ ان کی کل تعداد ایک لاکھ آٹھ ہزار ایک سو تھی۔
Verse 25 – 27 (Dan & Asher)
Verse: The standard of the camp of Dan shall be on the north side… And those that encamp by him shall be the tribe of Asher… English Explanation: Dan leads the Northern camp with 62,700 men, followed by Asher (41,500). Urdu Explanation: شمال کی طرف دان کا جھنڈا ہوگا (62,700) اور ان کے ساتھ آشر کا قبیلہ (41,500) ہوگا۔
