Deuteronomy 31:18

Verse: And I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evils which they shall have wrought in that they are turned unto other gods

  • English Explanation: God warns that due to idolatry and wickedness, He will withdraw His manifest presence and protection, leaving the people to face the consequences of their choices.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا فرماتا ہے کہ وہ اپنی موجودگی اور حفاظت ان سے چھپا لے گا کیونکہ انہوں نے غیر معبودوں کی پرستش کر کے برائی اختیار کی ہے۔

Deuteronomy 31:19

Verse: Now therefore write ye this song for you and teach it the children of Israel put it in their mouths that this song may be a witness for me against the children of Israel

  • English Explanation: God commands Moses to compose a song. Music is a powerful memory tool; this song would serve as a permanent legal witness against the people if they strayed.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا نے موسیٰ کو ایک گیت لکھنے کا حکم دیا تاکہ بنی اسرائیل اسے یاد رکھیں اور یہ گیت ان کی بدعہدی کی صورت میں ان کے خلاف گواہ رہے۔

Deuteronomy 31:20

Verse: For when I shall have brought them into the land which I sware unto their fathers that floweth with milk and honey and they shall have eaten and filled themselves and waxen fat then will they turn unto other gods and serve them and provoke me and break my covenant

  • English Explanation: Prosperity often leads to spiritual complacency. God predicts that once the Israelites are satisfied with the riches of Canaan, they will forget Him and break the covenant.

  • Urdu Explanation: جب بنی اسرائیل اس سرزمین میں خوشحال ہوں گے جہاں دودھ اور شہد کی نہریں بہتی ہیں، تو وہ آسودہ ہو کر خدا کو بھول جائیں گے اور بت پرستی کی طرف مائل ہوں گے۔

Deuteronomy 31:21

Verse: And it shall come to pass when many evils and troubles are befallen them that this song shall testify against them as a witness for it shall not be forgotten out of the mouths of their seed for I know their imagination which they go about even now before I have brought them into the land which I sware

  • English Explanation: God knows the human heart’s inclination toward rebellion. Even before they enter the land, He provides this song so they cannot claim ignorance when judgment falls.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا انسان کی نیت سے واقف ہے۔ جب ان پر مصیبتیں آئیں گی، تو یہ گیت ان کے سامنے ان کے گناہوں کی یاد دہانی کرائے گا۔

Deuteronomy 31:22

Verse: Moses therefore wrote this song the same day and taught it the children of Israel

  • English Explanation: Moses immediately obeyed the divine command, ensuring the prophetic song was documented and disseminated among the people.

  • Urdu Explanation: موسیٰ نے اسی دن وہ گیت لکھا اور بنی اسرائیل کو سکھایا تاکہ وہ اسے نسل در نسل یاد رکھیں۔

Deuteronomy 31:23

Verse: And he gave Joshua the son of Nun a charge and said Be strong and of a good courage for thou shalt bring the children of Israel into the land which I sware unto them and I will be with thee

  • English Explanation: Leadership is officially passed to Joshua. God promises His presence, which is the ultimate source of courage for the daunting task ahead.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا نے یشوع بن نون کو حوصلہ دیا اور وعدہ کیا کہ وہ اس کے ساتھ ہوگا جب وہ قوم کو ملکِ موعود میں لے کر جائے گا۔

Deuteronomy 31:24

Verse: And it came to pass when Moses had made an end of writing the words of this law in a book until they were finished

  • English Explanation: This marks the completion of the written Torah (Pentateuch) by Moses, establishing a permanent record of God’s law.

  • Urdu Explanation: جب موسیٰ نے شریعت کی تمام باتیں ایک کتاب میں مکمل لکھ لیں، تو یہ ایک دائمی ریکارڈ بن گیا۔

Deuteronomy 31:25-26

Verse: That Moses commanded the Levites which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD saying Take this book of the law and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God that it may be there for a witness against thee

  • English Explanation: The Book of the Law was placed beside the Ark, emphasizing its sacred status and its role as a legal standard for the nation.

  • Urdu Explanation: موسیٰ نے لاویوں کو حکم دیا کہ شریعت کی کتاب کو عہد کے صندوق کے پاس رکھیں تاکہ یہ لوگوں کے خلاف گواہی کے طور پر موجود رہے۔

Deuteronomy 31:27

Verse: For I know thy rebellion and thy stiff neck behold while I am yet alive with you this day ye have been rebellious against the LORD and how much more after my death

  • English Explanation: Moses reflects on the people’s stubbornness. If they rebelled while he was alive, he feared their total corruption after his departure.

  • Urdu Explanation: موسیٰ نے ان کی سرکشی کا ذکر کیا اور کہا کہ جب وہ میری زندگی میں باغی رہے ہیں، تو میرے مرنے کے بعد وہ کتنا زیادہ بھٹک جائیں گے۔

Deuteronomy 31:28-29

Verse: Gather unto me all the elders of your tribes and your officers that I may speak these words in their ears and call heaven and earth to record against them For I know that after my death ye will utterly corrupt yourselves and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you and evil will befall you in the latter days because ye will do evil in the sight of the LORD to provoke him to anger through the work of your hands

  • English Explanation: Moses summons the leadership to witness his final warning. He invokes the heavens and earth as eternal witnesses to the warnings he has delivered.

  • Urdu Explanation: موسیٰ نے بزرگوں کو جمع کیا تاکہ انہیں آخری تنبیہ کرے، کیونکہ وہ جانتا تھا کہ اس کے بعد لوگ گمراہ ہو جائیں گے اور خدا کے قہر کو دعوت دیں گے۔

Deuteronomy 31:30

Verse: And Moses spake in the ears of all the congregation of Israel the words of this song until they were ended

  • English Explanation: The chapter concludes with the public recitation of the song, ensuring every individual heard the message of God’s faithfulness and judgment.

  • Urdu Explanation: موسیٰ نے پوری جماعت کے سامنے اس گیت کے الفاظ دہرائے تاکہ سب اس سے واقف ہو جائیں۔

Chapter 32: The Song of Moses

Deuteronomy 32:1-2

Verse: Give ear O ye heavens and I will speak and hear O earth the words of my mouth My doctrine shall drop as the rain my speech shall distil as the dew as the small rain upon the tender herb and as the showers upon the grass

  • English Explanation: The song begins with a poetic invocation of nature. Moses desires his teaching to be refreshing and life-giving, like rain and dew to parched land.

  • Urdu Explanation: موسیٰ آسمان اور زمین کو گواہ بنا کر کہتا ہے کہ اس کی تعلیم بارش اور اوس کی طرح ہونی چاہیے جو زمین کو زندگی بخشتی ہے۔

Deuteronomy 32:3-4

Verse: Because I will publish the name of the LORD ascribe ye greatness unto our God He is the Rock his work is perfect for all his ways are judgment a God of truth and without iniquity just and right is he

  • English Explanation: God is described as “The Rock”—immovable, reliable, and perfect. Unlike humans, God’s justice is flawless and His truth is absolute.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا “چٹان” ہے، اس کے تمام کام کامل اور اس کی راہیں عدل پر مبنی ہیں۔ وہ سچائی کا خدا ہے جس میں کوئی برائی نہیں۔

Deuteronomy 32:5-6

Verse: They have corrupted themselves their spot is not the spot of his children they are a perverse and crooked generation Do ye thus requite the LORD O foolish people and unwise is not he thy father that hath bought thee hath he not made thee and established thee

  • English Explanation: Moses contrasts God’s perfection with Israel’s corruption. He reminds them that God is their Father and Creator, questioning why they respond to His love with rebellion.

  • Urdu Explanation: لوگوں نے خود کو بگاڑ لیا ہے۔ موسیٰ سوال کرتا ہے کہ کیا وہ اپنے پیدا کرنے والے اور باپ (خدا) کے ساتھ ایسا سلوک کرتے ہیں؟

Deuteronomy 32:7

Verse: Remember the days of old consider the years of many generations ask thy father and he will shew thee thy elders and they will tell thee

  • English Explanation: Wisdom is found in history. Moses encourages the younger generation to learn from their elders about God’s past miracles and faithfulness.

  • Urdu Explanation: موسیٰ نصیحت کرتا ہے کہ اپنی تاریخ کو یاد کرو اور اپنے بزرگوں سے پوچھو کہ خدا نے ماضی میں تمہارے لیے کیا کچھ کیا ہے۔

Deuteronomy 32:8-9

Verse: When the most High divided to the nations their inheritance when he separated the sons of Adam he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel For the LORD’s portion is his people Jacob is the lot of his inheritance

  • English Explanation: God is the sovereign ruler of all nations, but He chose Israel (Jacob) as His special treasure and inheritance, organizing the world’s nations with Israel at the center of His plan.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا نے تمام قوموں کی حدود مقرر کیں، لیکن بنی اسرائیل (یعقوب) کو اس نے اپنی خاص میراث کے طور پر چن لیا۔
