Deuteronomy Chapter

Verse 10

Verse: He found him in a desert land and in the waste howling wilderness he led him about he instructed him he kept him as the apple of his eye

  • English Explanation: This verse illustrates God’s providence. He found Israel in a desolate, dangerous state (the desert) and took them under His wings. “The apple of his eye” signifies that God protected them as the most sensitive and precious part of a human being.

Verse 11

Verse: As an eagle stirreth up her nest fluttereth over her young spreadeth abroad her wings taketh them beareth them on her wings

  • English Explanation: God’s care is compared to a mother eagle training her young. She encourages them to fly but remains underneath to catch them if they fall, showing a balance of discipline and absolute support.

Verse 12

Verse: So the LORD alone did lead him and there was no strange god with him

  • English Explanation: It emphasizes monotheism. Israel’s survival and success were due solely to the Lord (Yahweh); no pagan or foreign deity had any part in their deliverance.

  • Urdu Explanation:

Verse 13

Verse: He made him ride on the high places of the earth that he might eat the increase of the fields and he made him to suck honey out of the rock and oil out of the flinty rock

  • English Explanation: This depicts a transition from the desert to a land of abundance. God provided nourishment even from unlikely places, symbolizing that with God, even the “hard rocks” of life yield sweetness and prosperity.

  • Urdu Explanation:

Verse 14

Verse: Butter of kine and milk of sheep with fat of lambs and rams of the breed of Bashan and goats with the fat of kidneys of wheat and thou didst drink the pure blood of the grape

  • English Explanation: A description of the “Land of Milk and Honey.” It lists the finest luxuries of the ancient world—prime livestock and the best wheat and wine—as gifts from God.

  • Urdu Explanation:

Verse 15

Verse: But Jeshurun waxed fat and kicked thou art waxen fat thou art grown thick thou art covered with fatness then he forsook God which made him and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation

  • English Explanation: “Jeshurun” (a poetic name for Israel) became wealthy and, in their pride, rebelled against God. Prosperity led to spiritual complacency and the rejection of their Creator.

  • Urdu Explanation:

Verse 16

Verse: They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods with abominations provoked they him to anger

  • English Explanation: Instead of gratitude, Israel turned to idols. This betrayal “provoked God to jealousy,” as He is a God who demands exclusive devotion.

  • Urdu Explanation:

Verse 17

Verse: They sacrificed unto devils not to God to gods whom they knew not to new gods that came newly up whom your fathers feared not

  • English Explanation: The Israelites sacrificed to demons disguised as gods—entities their ancestors never worshipped and who had no history or power to save.

  • Urdu Explanation:

Verse 18

Verse: Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful and hast forgotten God that formed thee

  • English Explanation: A sharp rebuke for spiritual amnesia. They forgot the “Rock” (God) who gave them life and formed them into a nation.

  • Urdu Explanation:

Verse 19

Verse: And when the LORD saw it he abhorred them because of the provoking of his sons and of his daughters

  • English Explanation: God’s response to betrayal is righteous indignation. He rejected them because those He called His children had turned against Him.

  • Urdu Explanation:

Verse 20

Verse: And he said I will hide my face from them I will see what their end shall be for they are a very froward generation children in whom is no faith

  • English Explanation: God decides to withdraw His presence (“hide my face”). Without His protection, their fate would be disastrous, reflecting their lack of faith.

  • Urdu Explanation:

Verse 21

Verse: They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God they have provoked me to anger with their vanities and I will move them to jealousy with those which are not a people I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation

  • English Explanation: Lex Talionis (Law of Retaliation). Since they traded God for “non-gods,” God would favor “non-peoples” (Gentiles) to provoke Israel to realize their loss.

  • Urdu Explanation:

Verse 22

Verse: For a fire is kindled in mine anger and shall burn unto the lowest hell and shall consume the earth with her increase and set on fire the foundations of the mountains

  • English Explanation: This metaphorically describes the intensity of Divine judgment. It is an all-consuming fire that affects the deepest parts of the earth and the foundations of existence.

  • Urdu Explanation:

Verse 23

Verse: I will heap mischiefs upon them I will spend mine arrows upon them

  • English Explanation: God warns that He will bring multiple calamities (mischiefs) and use all His “arrows” (judgments) against the rebellious.

  • Urdu Explanation:

Verse 24

Verse: They shall be burnt with hunger and devoured with burning heat and with bitter destruction I will also send the teeth of beasts upon them with the poison of serpents of the dust

  • English Explanation: Detailed punishments include famine, plague, wild animals, and venomous creatures—the natural world turning against a faithless people.

  • Urdu Explanation:

Verse 25

Verse: The sword without and terror within shall destroy both the young man and the virgin the suckling also with the man of gray hairs

  • English Explanation: Total war and psychological dread. No demographic is spared; from infants to the elderly, the consequences of turning from God affect everyone.

  • Urdu Explanation:

Verse 26

Verse: I said I would scatter them into corners I would make the remembrance of them to cease from among men

  • English Explanation: God considers complete annihilation—scattering Israel so thoroughly that their history is forgotten forever.

  • Urdu Explanation:

Verse 27

Verse: Were it not that I feared the wrath of the enemy lest their adversaries should behave themselves strangely and lest they should say Our hand is high and the LORD hath not done all this

  • English Explanation: God refrains from total destruction not for Israel’s sake, but for His own glory. He does not want pagan enemies to think they defeated Israel by their own power.

  • Urdu Explanation:

Verse 28

Verse: For they are a nation void of counsel neither is there any understanding in them

  • English Explanation: A lament over Israel’s lack of spiritual discernment. They are blind to the reality of their situation and the source of their blessings.

  • Urdu Explanation:

Verse 29

Verse: O that they were wise that they understood this that they would consider their latter end

  • English Explanation: A divine wish for the people to gain wisdom. If only they could see the inevitable outcome (the “latter end”) of their choices, they might repent.

  • Urdu Explanation:
