Deuteronomy 34:11-12 | The Legacy of Moses

Verse 11: In all the signs and the wonders which the LORD sent him to do in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh and to all his servants and to all his land

  • English Explanation: This verse highlights the unparalleled miracles performed by Moses through God’s power. It serves as a final testament to his authority and his role in delivering Israel from Egyptian bondage.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہ آیت ان تمام معجزات اور عجائبات کی یاد دہانی کراتی ہے جو خدا نے موسیٰ کے ذریعے مصر میں فرعون اور اس کی رعایا کے سامنے کیے۔ یہ موسیٰ کی نبوت اور خدا کی قدرت کا ثبوت ہے۔

Verse 12: And in all that mighty hand and in all the great terror which Moses shewed in the sight of all Israel

  • English Explanation: Moses didn’t just perform miracles; he displayed God’s “mighty hand” to the entire nation of Israel, establishing a foundation of awe and respect for God’s law.

  • Urdu Explanation: اس سے مراد وہ زبردست قوت اور ہیبت ہے جو موسیٰ نے تمام بنی اسرائیل کی آنکھوں کے سامنے دکھائی تاکہ وہ خدا کی حاکمیت کو پہچان سکیں۔

Joshua Chapter 1 | The Commission of Joshua

Verse 1: Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass that the LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun Moses’ minister saying

  • English Explanation: Leadership transitions from Moses to his assistant, Joshua. It emphasizes that while the leader changes, the Lord remains in control.

  • Urdu Explanation: موسیٰ کی وفات کے بعد، خدا نے یشوع سے کلام کیا۔ یہ ظاہر کرتا ہے کہ خادم بدل سکتے ہیں لیکن خدا کا کام کبھی نہیں رکتا۔

Verse 2: Moses my servant is dead now therefore arise go over this Jordan thou and all this people unto the land which I do give to them even to the children of Israel

  • English Explanation: God confirms the reality of Moses’ death and immediately commands Joshua to take action and lead the people across the Jordan River.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا نے یشوع کو حکم دیا کہ اب موسیٰ وفات پا چکے ہیں، لہٰذا ہمت کرو اور بنی اسرائیل کو اس سرزمین کی طرف لے جاؤ جس کا وعدہ کیا گیا ہے۔

Verse 3: Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon that have I given unto you as I said unto Moses

  • English Explanation: A promise of divine ownership. Wherever they step, God has already granted them the victory, fulfilling the promise made to Moses.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا کا وعدہ ہے کہ جہاں بھی تم قدم رکھو گے، وہ زمین تمہاری ہوگی۔ یہ وہی وعدہ ہے جو خدا نے موسیٰ سے کیا تھا۔

Verse 4: From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river the river Euphrates all the land of the Hittites and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun shall be your coast

  • English Explanation: This defines the vast geographical boundaries of the Promised Land, from the desert to the Euphrates and the Mediterranean Sea.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہاں ملک کی سرحدوں کا ذکر ہے، جو ریگستان سے لے کر دریائے فرات اور بحیرہ روم تک پھیلی ہوئی ہیں۔

Verse 5: There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life as I was with Moses so I will be with thee I will not fail thee nor forsake thee

  • English Explanation: One of the most powerful promises in scripture: God assures Joshua of His constant presence and unwavering support.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا نے یشوع کو یقین دلایا کہ کوئی دشمن اس کے سامنے نہ ٹک سکے گا کیونکہ خدا اس کے ساتھ ہے اور اسے کبھی تنہا نہیں چھوڑے گا۔

Verse 6: Be strong and of a good courage for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land which I sware unto their fathers to give them

  • English Explanation: Joshua is called to be brave because his mission is to fulfill God’s ancient oath to the ancestors of Israel.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا نے یشوع کو مضبوط اور دلیر ہونے کا حکم دیا تاکہ وہ اس زمین کو لوگوں میں تقسیم کر سکے جس کا وعدہ ان کے باپ دادا سے کیا گیا تھا۔

Verse 7: Only be thou strong and very courageous that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law which Moses my servant commanded thee turn not from it to the right hand or to the left that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest

  • English Explanation: Success is tied to obedience. Joshua must strictly follow the Law without deviating to achieve prosperity.

  • Urdu Explanation: کامیابی کا راز شریعت پر عمل کرنے میں ہے۔ یشوع کو ہدایت دی گئی کہ وہ احکامات سے دائیں یا بائیں نہ مڑے تاکہ وہ ہر کام میں کامیاب ہو۔

Verse 8: This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth but thou shalt meditate therein day and night that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous and then thou shalt have good success

  • English Explanation: Constant meditation on the Word of God is the key to spiritual and practical success.

  • Urdu Explanation: کلامِ خدا پر دن رات غور و فکر کرنا ضروری ہے تاکہ اس کے مطابق زندگی گزاری جا سکے، اسی میں حقیقی کامیابی اور برکت ہے۔

Verse 9: Have not I commanded thee Be strong and of a good courage be not afraid neither be thou dismayed for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest

  • English Explanation: God repeats the command for courage, reminding Joshua that fear has no place when God is present everywhere.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا نے دوبارہ تاکید کی کہ خوفزدہ نہ ہو، کیونکہ تمہارا خدا ہر جگہ تمہارے ساتھ ہے۔

Verse 10: Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people saying

  • English Explanation: Joshua immediately steps into his role as a leader, giving orders to the officers to organize the camp.

  • Urdu Explanation: یشوع نے خدا کا حکم سنتے ہی عملی قدم اٹھایا اور قوم کے سرداروں کو ہدایات دیں۔

Verse 11: Pass through the host and command the people saying Prepare you victuals for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan to go in to possess the land which the LORD your God giveth you to possess it

  • English Explanation: The preparation for the crossing begins. The focus is on logistics (food) and the imminent fulfillment of God’s gift.

  • Urdu Explanation: لوگوں کو حکم دیا گیا کہ وہ تین دن کے اندر اردن پار کرنے کے لیے تیار ہو جائیں اور اپنا زادِ راہ تیار کر لیں۔

Verse 12: And to the Reubenites and to the Gadites and to half the tribe of Manasseh spake Joshua saying

  • English Explanation: Joshua addresses the specific tribes that had already settled east of the Jordan to ensure they fulfill their military obligations.

  • Urdu Explanation: یشوع نے روبن، جاد اور منسی کے آدھے قبیلے کو ان کی ذمہ داریوں کی یاد دہانی کرائی۔

Verse 13: Remember the word which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you saying The LORD your God hath given you rest and hath given you this land

  • English Explanation: He reminds them of their previous agreement with Moses regarding their rest and their duty to help their brothers.

  • Urdu Explanation: انہیں موسیٰ کے اس قول کی یاد دلائی گئی کہ خدا نے انہیں آرام اور زمین عطا کی ہے، مگر ان کا کام ابھی ختم نہیں ہوا۔

Verse 14: Your wives your little ones and your cattle shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side Jordan but ye shall pass before your brethren armed all the mighty men of valour and help them

  • English Explanation: Their families stay safe, but the warriors must cross the river to help the other tribes fight for their territory.

  • Urdu Explanation: ان کی بیویاں اور بچے پیچھے رہیں گے، لیکن تمام جنگجو مرد اپنے بھائیوں کی مدد کے لیے مسلح ہو کر آگے بڑھیں گے۔

Verse 15: Until the LORD have given your brethren rest as he hath given you and they also have possessed the land which the LORD your God giveth them then ye shall return unto the land of your possession and enjoy it which Moses the LORD’s servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising

  • English Explanation: Unity is key. They can only enjoy their own land fully once all their brothers have secured their inheritance.

  • Urdu Explanation: جب تمام قبائل کو ان کی زمین مل جائے گی اور انہیں سکون ملے گا، تبھی یہ جنگجو اپنے گھروں کو واپس لوٹ سکیں گے۔

Verse 16: And they answered Joshua saying All that thou commandest us we will do and whithersoever thou sendest us we will go

  • English Explanation: The people respond with total submission and loyalty to Joshua’s leadership, mirroring their devotion to God’s plan.

  • Urdu Explanation: لوگوں نے یشوع کی قیادت کو تسلیم کیا اور مکمل وفاداری کا عہد کیا کہ وہ ہر حکم مانیں گے اور جہاں بھیجا جائے گا وہاں جائیں گے۔
