The Inheritance of Asher (Joshua 19:24-31)

Verse 24

  • Verse: And the fifth lot came out for the tribe of the children of Asher according to their families

  • English: This marks the fifth territory assigned by lot in Shiloh. Asher’s portion was located in the fertile coastal region of Galilee.

  • Urdu: پانچواں قرعہ آشر کے بنیوں کے قبیلے کے لیے اُن کے گھرانوں کے موافق نکلا۔ یہ گلیل کے زرخیز ساحلی علاقے میں ان کا حصہ تھا۔

Verse 25

  • Verse: And their border was Helkath and Hali and Beten and Achshaph

  • English: These cities defined the southern and central boundaries of Asher’s territory.

  • Urdu: اور اُن کی سرحد خلقات اور حلی اور بطن اور اکساف تھی۔ یہ شہر آشر کے علاقے کی جنوبی اور وسطی حدود کا تعین کرتے تھے۔

Verse 26

  • Verse: And Alammelech and Amad and Misheal and reacheth to Carmel westward and to Shihor-libnath

  • English: The border extended to Mount Carmel and the Mediterranean coast, providing Asher with rich agricultural land and access to the sea.

  • Urdu: اور المّلک اور عماد اور مشعال اور مغرب کی طرف کرمل اور شیخور لبنات تک پہنچتی تھی۔ یہ علاقہ آشر کو زرخیز زمین اور سمندر تک رسائی فراہم کرتا تھا۔

Verse 27

  • Verse: And turneth toward the sunrising to Beth-dagon and reacheth to Zebulun and to the valley of Jiphthah-el toward the north side of Beth-emek and Neiel and goeth out to Cabul on the left hand

  • English: The border turned east toward Beth-dagon, touching the territories of Zebulun and the valley of Jiphthah-el.

  • Urdu: اور سورج کے نکلنے کی طرف بیت داجون کو مڑتی تھی اور زبولون اور اِفتاح ایل کی وادی تک بیت عمق اور نعی ایل کے شمال کی طرف پہنچتی تھی اور بائیں ہاتھ پر کابل کو نکل جاتی تھی۔

Verse 28

  • Verse: And Hebron and Rehob and Hammon and Kanah even unto great Zidon

  • English: The boundary included significant northern cities, reaching toward the famous Phoenician city of Sidon.

  • Urdu: اور عبرون اور رحوب اور حمون اور قانہ بڑے صیدون تک تھی۔ یہ سرحد شمال کے اہم شہروں بشمول صیدون تک پھیلی ہوئی تھی۔

Verse 29

  • Verse: And then the coast turneth to Ramah and to the strong city Tyre and the coast turneth to Hosah and the outgoings thereof are at the sea from the coast to Achzib

  • English: The line moved toward the fortified city of Tyre, eventually ending at the Mediterranean Sea near Achzib.

  • Urdu: اور پھر وہ سرحد رامہ کو اور صور کے مضبوط شہر کو مڑتی تھی اور حوصہ کو مڑ کر سمندر پر اَکزیب کے پاس ختم ہوتی تھی۔

Verse 30

  • Verse: Ummah also and Aphek and Rehob twenty and two cities with their villages

  • English: A summary of the major cities within Asher’s lot, totaling twenty-two main urban centers.

  • Urdu: اور عمّہ اور افیق اور رحوب۔ یہ بائیس شہر اپنی بستیوں سمیت تھے۔

Verse 31

  • Verse: This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Asher according to their families these cities with their villages

  • English: This concludes the record of Asher’s geographical blessing, fulfilling the prophecy of “royal dainties” (Genesis 49:20).

  • Urdu: آشر کے بنیوں کے قبیلے کی میراث اُن کے گھرانوں کے موافق یہی شہر اور اُن کی بستیاں تھیں۔

The Inheritance of Naphtali (Joshua 19:32-39)

Verse 32

  • Verse: The sixth lot came out to the children of Naphtali even for the children of Naphtali according to their families

  • English: Naphtali received the sixth lot, situated in the northernmost parts of Israel, including the Sea of Galilee.

  • Urdu: چھٹا قرعہ نفتالی کے بنیوں کے لیے اُن کے گھرانوں کے موافق نکلا۔ ان کا حصہ اسرائیل کے انتہائی شمالی علاقوں میں تھا۔

Verse 33

  • Verse: And their coast was from Heleph from Allon to Zaanannim and Adami Nekeb and Jabneel unto Lakum and the outgoings thereof were at Jordan

  • English: This describes the northern border starting from Heleph and ending at the Jordan River.

  • Urdu: اور اُن کی سرحد حلف سے اور صعلنیم کے بلوط سے اور ادامی نکب اور یبن ایل سے لقم تک تھی اور اس کا اختتام یردن پر ہوتا تھا۔

Verse 34

  • Verse: And then the coast turneth westward to Aznoth-tabor and goeth out from thence to Hukkok and reacheth to Zebulun on the south side and reacheth to Asher on the west side and to Judah upon Jordan toward the sunrising

  • English: Naphtali was strategically placed, bordering Zebulun to the south and Asher to the west.

  • Urdu: اور پھر وہ سرحد مغرب کی طرف ازنوت تابور کو مڑتی تھی اور وہاں سے حکوق کو نکل کر جنوب کی طرف زبولون سے اور مغرب کی طرف آشر سے اور سورج کے نکلنے کی طرف یردن پر یہوداہ سے ملتی تھی۔

Verse 35

  • Verse: And the fenced cities are Ziddim Zer and Hammath Rakkath and Chinnereth

  • English: Lists the fortified (fenced) cities, including Chinnereth, which gave its name to the Sea of Galilee.

  • Urdu: اور فصیل دار شہر یہ تھے ضِدیم اور صیر اور حمت اور رقت اور کنارت۔ کنارت وہ شہر ہے جس کی نسبت سے گلیل کی جھیل کا نام پڑا۔

Verse 36-38

  • Verse: And Adamah and Ramah and Hazor And Kedesh and Edrei and En-hazor And Iron and Migdal-el Horem and Beth-anath and Beth-shemesh nineteen cities with their villages

  • English: A catalog of 19 fortified cities, including Hazor, a major administrative center of the north.

  • Urdu: اور ادمہ اور رامہ اور حصور اور قِدیش اور اِدریعی اور عین حصور اور اِیرون اور مجدل ایل اور حوریم اور بیت عنات اور بیت شمس۔ یہ انیس شہر اپنی بستیوں سمیت تھے۔

Verse 39

  • Verse: This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Naphtali according to their families the cities and their villages

  • English: Summary of Naphtali’s portion, emphasizing their settled urban and rural life.

  • Urdu: نفتالی کے بنیوں کے قبیلے کی میراث اُن کے گھرانوں کے موافق یہی شہر اور اُن کی بستیاں تھیں۔

The Inheritance of Dan and Joshua (Joshua 19:40-51)

Verse 40-46

  • Verse: And the seventh lot came out for the tribe of the children of Dan… with the border before Japho

  • English: The final lot went to Dan. Their land was near the Philistine border, reaching toward Japho (Modern Jaffa/Tel Aviv).

  • Urdu: ساتواں قرعہ دان کے بنیوں کے قبیلے کے لیے نکلا۔ اُن کی سرحد یافا (موجودہ تل ابیب) کے سامنے تک تھی۔

Verse 47

  • Verse: And the coast of the children of Dan went out too little for them therefore the children of Dan went up to fight against Leshem… and called Leshem Dan after the name of Dan their father

  • English: Dan found their initial territory too small or difficult to hold, so they conquered Leshem in the north and renamed it Dan.

  • Urdu: اور دان کے بنیوں کی سرحد اُن کے لیے کم نکلی اس لیے انہوں نے لِشم پر حملہ کیا اور اسے فتح کر کے اس کا نام اپنے باپ دان کے نام پر دان رکھا۔

Verse 48

  • Verse: This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Dan according to their families these cities with their villages

  • English: Final summary of the Danite cities.

  • Urdu: دان کے بنیوں کے قبیلے کی میراث یہی شہر اور اُن کی بستیاں تھیں۔

Verse 49-50

  • Verse: When they had made an end of dividing the land… the children of Israel gave an inheritance to Joshua… even Timnath-serah in mount Ephraim

  • English: After everyone else received land, Joshua—the leader—humbly received his portion last: Timnath-serah.

  • Urdu: جب وہ ملک کو تقسیم کر چکے تو بنی اسرائیل نے یشوع بن نون کو اپنی فرمائش کے مطابق تمنت سرح کا شہر دیا جو افرا ئیم کے پہاڑی ملک میں ہے۔

Verse 51

  • Verse: These are the inheritances which Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun… divided for an inheritance by lot in Shiloh before the LORD

  • English: The formal conclusion of the land division at the Tabernacle in Shiloh.

  • Urdu: یہ وہ میراثیں ہیں جنہیں الیعزر کاہن اور یشوع بن نون نے شیلوہ میں خیمہِ اجتماع کے دروازہ پر قرعہ ڈال کر تقسیم کیا۔

The Cities of Refuge (Joshua 20:1-6)

Verse 1-2

  • Verse: The LORD also spake unto Joshua saying Speak to the children of Israel saying Appoint out for you cities of refuge

  • English: God commands Joshua to designate special cities to protect those who commit accidental manslaughter.

  • Urdu: خداوند نے یشوع سے کہا کہ بنی اسرائیل سے کہہ کہ اپنے لیے پناہ کے شہر مقرر کرو۔

Verse 3

  • Verse: That the slayer that killeth any person unawares and unwittingly may flee thither and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood

  • English: These cities were meant to prevent “blood feuds” where a relative might kill an accidental manslayer out of revenge.

  • Urdu: تاکہ وہ خونی جس سے نادانستہ طور پر خون ہو جائے وہاں بھاگ جائے اور وہ خون کے بدلہ لینے والے سے تمہاری پناہ گاہ ہوں۔

Verse 4

  • Verse: And when he that doth flee unto one of those cities shall stand at the entering of the gate… they shall take him into the city… and give him a place

  • English: The fugitive must present his case to the city elders at the gate to be granted asylum.

  • Urdu: وہ شہر کے پھاٹک پر کھڑا ہو کر بزرگوں کو اپنا حال سنائے اور وہ اسے شہر میں جگہ دیں تاکہ وہ ان کے درمیان رہ سکے۔

Verse 5

  • Verse: And if the avenger of blood pursue after him then they shall not deliver the slayer up into his hand

  • English: Legal protection was guaranteed if the act was proven to be accidental and not motivated by prior hatred.

  • Urdu: اگر خون کا بدلہ لینے والا اس کا پیچھا کرے تو وہ خونی کو اس کے حوالے نہ کریں کیونکہ اس نے نادانستہ طور پر اپنے پڑوسی کو مارا تھا۔

Verse 6

  • Verse: And he shall dwell in that city until he stand before the congregation for judgment and until the death of the high priest… then shall the slayer return… unto his own house

  • English: The manslayer must stay in the city until a trial occurs and until the current High Priest dies, which acts as a legal “reset.”

  • Urdu: وہ اس شہر میں رہے جب تک کہ وہ عدالت کے لیے جماعت کے سامنے کھڑا نہ ہو اور اس وقت کے سردار کاہن کی وفات تک۔ اس کے بعد وہ اپنے گھر واپس جا سکے گا۔
