Judges 7:12

Verse: And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like grasshoppers for multitude and their camels were without number as the sand by the sea side for multitude.

  • English Explanation: This verse sets the stage by illustrating the overwhelming odds against Israel. The enemy forces were so massive they looked like a swarm of locusts, and their resources (camels) were as uncountable as sand. It emphasizes that Israel’s victory would have to be supernatural, not tactical.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہ آیت اسرائیل کے خلاف دشمن کی بھاری اکثریت کو ظاہر کرتی ہے۔ مدیانی اور ان کے ساتھی وادی میں ٹڈی دل کی طرح پھیلے ہوئے تھے اور ان کے اونٹ سمندر کی ریت کی طرح بے شمار تھے۔ یہ اس بات کی نشاندہی ہے کہ اسرائیل کی جیت صرف خدا کی قدرت سے ہی ممکن تھی۔

Judges 7:13

Verse: And when Gideon was come behold there was a man that told a dream unto his fellow and said Behold I dreamed a dream and lo a cake of barley bread tumbled into the host of Midian and came unto a tent and smote it that it fell and overturned it that the tent lay along.

  • English Explanation: God provides Gideon with a sign of encouragement. A Midianite soldier dreams of a humble barley loaf—representing the lowly Israelites—destroying a mighty military tent. This signifies that the weak, through God, would overthrow the strong.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا نے جدعون کی ہمت بڑھانے کے لیے اسے دشمن کے کیمپ میں ایک خواب سنوایا۔ ایک سپاہی نے دیکھا کہ جو کی روٹی کا ایک ٹکڑا مدیانیوں کے خیمے سے ٹکرایا اور اسے گرا دیا۔ یہ اس بات کی علامت تھی کہ ایک معمولی سی قوت دشمن کو تباہ کر دے گی۔

Judges 7:14

Verse: And his fellow answered and said This is nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash a man of Israel for into his hand hath God delivered Midian and all the host.

  • English Explanation: Even the enemies of Israel recognized that God was working through Gideon. The interpretation of the dream spreads fear among the Midianites, proving that God was already fighting the battle in the hearts of the enemy.

  • Urdu Explanation: دشمن کے ساتھی نے اس خواب کی تعبیر بیان کی کہ یہ جدعون کی تلوار ہے اور خدا نے مدیانیوں کو اس کے قبضے میں دے دیا ہے۔ اس سے ظاہر ہوتا ہے کہ دشمن پہلے ہی خوفزدہ ہو چکا تھا۔

Judges 7:15

Verse: And it was so when Gideon heard the telling of the dream and the interpretation thereof that he worshipped and returned into the host of Israel and said Arise for the LORD hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian.

  • English Explanation: Hearing the dream was the final confirmation Gideon needed. His immediate response was worship, followed by bold action. He returned to his 300 men with absolute confidence in God’s promise.

  • Urdu Explanation: خواب اور اس کی تعبیر سن کر جدعون نے خدا کی عبادت کی اور اپنے لشکر میں واپس جا کر اعلان کیا کہ اٹھو کیونکہ خداوند نے مدیانیوں کو تمہارے ہاتھ میں دے دیا ہے۔

Judges 7:16

Verse: And he divided the three hundred men into three companies and he put a trumpet in every man’s hand with empty pitchers and lamps within the pitchers.

  • English Explanation: Gideon uses unconventional “weapons”: trumpets, empty jars, and torches. This strategy relied on psychological warfare and divine intervention rather than traditional swords and shields.

  • Urdu Explanation: جدعون نے اپنے تین سو آدمیوں کو تین دستوں میں تقسیم کیا اور ہر ایک کے ہاتھ میں نرسنگا، خالی گھڑا اور گھڑے کے اندر مشعل دی۔ یہ جنگی حکمت عملی مکمل طور پر خدا پر توکل پر مبنی تھی۔

Judges 7:17

Verse: And he said unto them Look on me and do likewise and behold when I come to the outside of the camp it shall be that as I do so shall ye do.

  • English Explanation: Leadership requires example. Gideon instructs his men to watch him and mimic his actions exactly. This unity was crucial for the success of their specialized mission.

  • Urdu Explanation: جدعون نے اپنے سپاہیوں کو ہدایت دی کہ وہ اسے دیکھیں اور جیسا وہ کرے، ویسا ہی وہ بھی کریں۔ کامیابی کے لیے اتحاد اور قیادت کی پیروی ضروری تھی۔

Judges 7:18

Verse: When I blow with a trumpet I and all that are with me then blow ye the trumpets also on every side of all the camp and say The sword of the LORD and of Gideon.

  • English Explanation: The battle cry “The sword of the LORD and of Gideon” gave glory to God while establishing Gideon as the chosen leader. The sound of 300 trumpets would create the illusion of a massive army surrounding the camp.

  • Urdu Explanation: اس نے حکم دیا کہ جب وہ نرسنگا بجائے تو وہ بھی بجائیں اور نعرہ لگائیں “خداوند کی اور جدعون کی تلوار”۔ اس کا مقصد دشمن کے دل میں رعب ڈالنا تھا۔

Judges 7:19

Verse: So Gideon and the hundred men that were with him came unto the outside of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch and they had but newly set the watch and they blew the trumpets and brake the pitchers that were in their hands.

  • English Explanation: Timing was key. At midnight (the middle watch), when the enemy’s guard had just changed and they were sleepy, the sudden noise of breaking jars and blaring trumpets created total chaos.

  • Urdu Explanation: آدھی رات کے وقت جب پہرہ بدلا گیا، جدعون اور اس کے ساتھیوں نے اچانک نرسنگے بجائے اور گھڑے توڑ دیے، جس سے دشمن اچانک گھبرا گیا۔

Judges 7:20

Verse: And the three companies blew the trumpets and brake the pitchers and held the lamps in their left hands and the trumpets in their right hands to blow withal and they cried The sword of the LORD and of Gideon.

  • English Explanation: The visual of 300 torches suddenly appearing from broken jars, combined with the deafening sound of trumpets, made the Midianites believe they were being attacked by a massive force.

  • Urdu Explanation: تینوں دستوں نے نرسنگے بجائے، گھڑے توڑے اور مشعلیں ہاتھ میں لے کر نعرہ لگایا۔ اس اچانک روشنی اور شور نے دشمن کو ہکا بکا کر دیا۔

Judges 7:21

Verse: And they stood every man in his place round about the camp and all the host ran and cried and fled.

  • English Explanation: The Israelites didn’t even have to draw their swords yet. By simply standing their ground and creating a perimeter of light and sound, they caused the entire Midianite army to panic and flee in terror.

  • Urdu Explanation: اسرائیلی سپاہی اپنی جگہ پر کھڑے رہے جبکہ دشمن کا پورا لشکر خوف سے چیختا ہوا بھاگ کھڑا ہوا۔

Judges 7:22

Verse: And the three hundred blew the trumpets and the LORD set every man’s sword against his fellow even throughout all the host and the host fled to Beth-shittah in Zererath and to the border of Abel-meholah unto Tabbath.

  • English Explanation: God caused confusion in the enemy camp. In the dark, the Midianites mistook each other for Israelites and began killing one another. The survivors fled toward the Jordan valley.

  • Urdu Explanation: خداوند نے دشمنوں کے درمیان ایسی الجھن پیدا کر دی کہ وہ اندھیرے میں ایک دوسرے ہی کو قتل کرنے لگے۔ باقی بچ جانے والے دور دراز علاقوں کی طرف بھاگ گئے۔

Judges 7:23

Verse: And the men of Israel gathered themselves together out of Naphtali and out of Asher and out of all Manasseh and pursued after the Midianites.

  • English Explanation: Once the initial victory was secured by the 300, the rest of the Israelite tribes joined the pursuit to ensure the enemy was completely driven out of their land.

  • Urdu Explanation: جب فتح شروع ہوئی تو اسرائیل کے دوسرے قبیلوں کے لوگ بھی جمع ہو گئے اور بھاگتے ہوئے مدیانیوں کا پیچھا کیا۔

Judges 7:24

Verse: And Gideon sent messengers throughout all mount Ephraim saying Come down against the Midianites and take before them the waters unto Beth-barah and Jordan. Then all the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together and took the waters unto Beth-barah and Jordan.

  • English Explanation: Gideon strategically calls upon the tribe of Ephraim to block the escape routes at the Jordan River. This prevented the Midianites from crossing back to their own territory.

  • Urdu Explanation: جدعون نے افرائیم کے پہاڑی علاقے میں پیغام بھیجا کہ وہ دریا کے گھاٹوں پر قبضہ کر لیں تاکہ دشمن بھاگ نہ سکے۔ افرائیمیوں نے ایسا ہی کیا۔

Judges 7:25

Verse: And they took two princes of the Midianites Oreb and Zeeb and they slew Oreb upon the rock Oreb and Zeeb they slew at the winepress of Zeeb and pursued Midian and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon on the other side Jordan.

  • English Explanation: The capture and execution of the two Midianite leaders, Oreb (Raven) and Zeeb (Wolf), signaled the total collapse of the Midianite leadership and was a trophy of victory brought to Gideon.

  • Urdu Explanation: افرائیمیوں نے مدیان کے دو سرداروں، غریب اور زیب کو پکڑ کر قتل کر دیا اور ان کے سر جدعون کے پاس لے آئے، جو مکمل فتح کی علامت تھی۔

Judges 8:1

Verse: And the men of Ephraim said unto him Why hast thou served us thus that thou calledst us not when thou wentest to fight with the Midianites? And they did chide with him sharply.

  • English Explanation: Despite the victory, internal conflict arises. The men of Ephraim felt insulted that they weren’t called to the fight from the beginning, showing pride and a desire for glory.

  • Urdu Explanation: فتح کے بعد افرائیم کے لوگوں نے جدعون سے شکایت کی کہ اسے شروع میں کیوں نہیں بلایا گیا۔ یہ ان کے غرور اور شہرت کی خواہش کو ظاہر کرتا ہے۔

Judges 8:2

Verse: And he said unto them What have I done now in comparison of you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abi-ezer?

  • English Explanation: Gideon shows great humility and wisdom. He de-escalates the conflict by flattering them, saying their small contribution (the “gleaning”) was greater than his family’s entire effort.

  • Urdu Explanation: جدعون نے بڑی دانائی اور عاجزی سے جواب دیا کہ افرائیم کا معمولی کام بھی اس کے اپنے خاندان کی بڑی کوششوں سے بہتر ہے۔ اس طرح اس نے ان کے غصے کو ٹھنڈا کیا۔

Judges 8:3

Verse: God hath delivered into your hands the princes of Midian Oreb and Zeeb and what was I able to do in comparison of you? Then their anger was abated toward him when he had said that.

  • English Explanation: By crediting the Ephraimites with the capture of the enemy princes, Gideon effectively ends the dispute. Soft words turned away their wrath.

  • Urdu Explanation: اس نے کہا کہ خدا نے مدیان کے سرداروں کو تمہارے ہاتھ میں دیا، تو میری کیا حیثیت ہے؟ اس نرم جواب سے ان کا غصہ ختم ہو گیا۔

Judges 8:4

Verse: And Gideon came to Jordan and passed over he and the three hundred men that were with him faint yet pursuing them.

  • English Explanation: This verse highlights the perseverance of Gideon’s 300 men. Though physically exhausted (faint), they remained committed to the mission until the enemy was fully defeated.

  • Urdu Explanation: جدعون اور اس کے تین سو آدمی تھکے ہوئے ہونے کے باوجود دشمن کا پیچھا کرتے رہے۔ یہ ان کے پختہ ارادے اور ایمان کی علامت ہے۔

Judges 8:5

Verse: And he said unto the men of Succoth Give I pray you loaves of bread unto the people that follow me for they be faint and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna kings of Midian.

  • English Explanation: Gideon asks for basic humanitarian aid from his fellow Israelites in Succoth. He is focused on capturing the Midianite kings, Zebah and Zalmunna, to finish the war.

  • Urdu Explanation: جدعون نے سُکات کے لوگوں سے اپنے تھکے ہوئے سپاہیوں کے لیے روٹی مانگی تاکہ وہ مدیان کے بادشاہوں کا پیچھا جاری رکھ سکیں۔

Judges 8:6

Verse: And the princes of Succoth said Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand that we should give bread unto thine army?

  • English Explanation: The leaders of Succoth mock Gideon. They refuse to help because they fear retaliation from the Midianites if Gideon fails. They lacked faith and national unity.

  • Urdu Explanation: سُکات کے سرداروں نے طنز کیا اور مدد سے انکار کر دیا کیونکہ انہیں ڈر تھا کہ اگر جدعون ہار گیا تو مدیانی ان سے بدلہ لیں گے۔

Judges 8:7

Verse: And Gideon said Therefore when the LORD hath delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into mine hand then I will tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers.

  • English Explanation: Gideon promises a severe punishment for their lack of support and faith. Their refusal was seen as treason against the purpose of God for Israel.

  • Urdu Explanation: جدعون نے غصے میں کہا کہ جب خداوند اسے فتح دے گا، تو وہ ان سرداروں کو جنگلی کانٹوں سے سزا دے گا کیونکہ انہوں نے خدا کے کام میں رکاوٹ ڈالی۔

Judges 8:8

Verse: And he went up thence to Penuel and spake unto them likewise and the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered him.

  • English Explanation: Gideon moves to Penuel seeking help, but he meets the same faithless resistance. This shows the spiritual decay and fear prevalent in those regions of Israel at the time.

  • Urdu Explanation: پنوایل کے لوگوں نے بھی سُکات کے لوگوں کی طرح مدد سے انکار کر دیا۔ یہ اس وقت کے لوگوں کی بے ایمانی اور بزدلی کو ظاہر کرتا ہے۔
