Verse-by-Verse Commentary

1 Kings 1:38

Verse: So Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada and the Cherethites and the Pelethites went down and caused Solomon to ride upon king David’s mule and brought him to Gihon

  • English Explanation: This verse describes the official procession to crown Solomon. By using David’s own mule, the transfer of authority was made visible and undeniable to the public. The presence of the king’s personal bodyguard (Cherethites and Pelethites) ensured security and legitimacy.

  • Urdu Explanation: اس آیت میں سلیمان کی بادشاہت کی باقاعدہ تقریب کا ذکر ہے۔ داؤد کے شاہی خچر پر سوار ہونا اس بات کی علامت تھی کہ اب شاہی اختیار سلیمان کو منتقل ہو چکا ہے۔ صدوق کاہن اور ناتن نبی کی موجودگی نے اس عمل کو مذہبی اور قانونی تحفظ فراہم کیا۔

1 Kings 1:39

Verse: And Zadok the priest took an horn of oil out of the tabernacle and anointed Solomon And they blew the trumpet and all the people said God save king Solomon

  • Urdu Explanation: صدوق کاہن نے خیمہِ اجتماع سے پاک تیل لے کر سلیمان کو مسح کیا۔ یہ عمل خدا کی طرف سے انتخاب کی علامت تھا۔ نرسنگا پھونکا گیا اور عوام نے “سلیمان بادشاہ زندہ باد” کے نعرے لگا کر ان کی بادشاہت کو تسلیم کیا۔

1 Kings 1:40

Verse: And all the people came up after him and the people piped with pipes and rejoiced with great joy so that the earth rent with the sound of them

  • English Explanation: The atmosphere was one of overwhelming national joy. The hyperbole “the earth rent” illustrates the immense volume and energy of the celebration.

  • Urdu Explanation: عوام میں اس قدر خوشی تھی کہ ان کے شور اور موسیقی سے زمین گونج اٹھی۔ یہ اس بات کا ثبوت تھا کہ عوام سلیمان کی بادشاہت سے بے حد خوش تھے۔

1 Kings 1:41

Verse: And Adonijah and all the guests that were with him heard it as they had made an end of eating And when Joab heard the sound of the trumpet he said Wherefore is this noise of the city being in an uproar

  • English Explanation: While Adonijah was celebrating his own self-exaltation, the sound of the true king’s coronation interrupted him. Joab, a military man, immediately recognized the sound of a significant political shift.

  • Urdu Explanation: ادونیاہ اور اس کے مہمانوں نے اپنی دعوت کے اختتام پر یہ شور سنا۔ یوآب جو کہ سپہ سالار تھا، فوراً سمجھ گیا کہ شہر میں کوئی غیر معمولی ہلچل ہو رہی ہے جو اس کے اپنے منصوبوں کے لیے خطرہ ہے۔

1 Kings 1:42-45

Verses: [Summary of Jonathan’s Report] …And Jonathan answered and said to Adonijah Verily our lord king David hath made Solomon king…

  • English Explanation: Jonathan, the son of the priest, delivers the “bad news” to Adonijah. He confirms that David personally ordered the anointing of Solomon, making Adonijah’s claim void.

  • Urdu Explanation: یونتن نے ادونیاہ کو خبر دی کہ داؤد بادشاہ نے باقاعدہ طور پر سلیمان کو بادشاہ مقرر کر دیا ہے۔ اس خبر نے ادونیاہ کی خود ساختہ بادشاہت کے خواب کو چکنا چور کر دیا۔

1 Kings 1:46-48

Verses: And also Solomon sitteth on the throne… And also thus said the king Blessed be the LORD God of Israel…

  • English Explanation: These verses highlight David’s gratitude. Even in his physical weakness, David worships God for allowing him to see his successor on the throne, fulfilling God’s promise.

  • Urdu Explanation: سلیمان تخت پر براجمان ہو چکا تھا۔ داؤد نے بستر پر لیٹے ہوئے خدا کا شکر ادا کیا کہ اس نے اپنی آنکھوں سے اپنی نسل کے وارث کو تخت پر بیٹھتے دیکھا۔

1 Kings 1:49-50

Verses: And all the guests that were with Adonijah were afraid… And Adonijah feared because of Solomon and arose and went and caught hold on the horns of the altar

  • English Explanation: Reality sets in for the conspirators. Adonijah flees to the altar, a place of sanctuary, seeking mercy because he knows his actions were treasonous.

  • Urdu Explanation: ادونیاہ کے ساتھی خوفزدہ ہو کر بھاگ گئے۔ ادونیاہ نے اپنی جان بچانے کے لیے مذبح کے سینگوں کو پکڑ لیا، جو کہ پناہ کی علامت سمجھا جاتا تھا۔

1 Kings 1:51-53

Verses: And Solomon said If he will shew himself a worthy man there shall not an hair of him fall to the earth…

  • English Explanation: Solomon shows initial mercy and political wisdom. He offers Adonijah a conditional pardon based on his future loyalty.

  • Urdu Explanation: سلیمان نے رحمدلی کا مظاہرہ کیا اور کہا کہ اگر ادونیاہ وفادار رہے گا تو اسے کچھ نہیں کہا جائے گا، لیکن اگر اس نے دوبارہ غداری کی تو وہ مارا جائے گا۔

Chapter 2: David’s Final Charge

1 Kings 2:1-4

Verses: Now the days of David drew nigh that he should die… keep the charge of the LORD thy God…

  • English Explanation: David’s dying words focus on spiritual faithfulness. He emphasizes that Solomon’s success depends entirely on his obedience to God’s Law (the Torah of Moses).

  • Urdu Explanation: داؤد کی وفات قریب تھی، اس نے سلیمان کو وصیت کی کہ اگر وہ زندگی میں کامیابی چاہتا ہے تو اسے خدا کے احکامات اور شریعتِ موسوی پر سختی سے عمل کرنا ہوگا۔

1 Kings 2:5-6

Verses: Moreover thou knowest also what Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me… Do therefore according to thy wisdom…

  • English Explanation: David instructs Solomon to deal with unfinished justice. Joab had murdered innocent commanders (Abner and Amasa), and David charges Solomon to ensure Joab does not escape the consequences of his bloodguilt.

  • Urdu Explanation: داؤد نے سلیمان کو یوآب کے بارے میں ہدایت دی جس نے بے گناہ لوگوں کا خون بہایا تھا۔ داؤد چاہتا تھا کہ انصاف قائم ہو اور یوآب کو اس کے گناہوں کی سزا ملے۔
