2 Kings Chapter 20:7–21

Verse 2Ki 20 7

And Isaiah said Take a lump of figs And they took and laid it on the boil and he recovered

  • English Explanation: God uses both supernatural and natural means. Isaiah prescribes a poultice of figs for Hezekiah’s life-threatening boil, leading to his recovery.

  • Urdu Explanation: اللہ تعالیٰ نے معجزاتی شفا کے لیے انجیر کا لیپ استعمال کرنے کا حکم دیا۔ یسعیاہ نبی نے یہ تدبیر بتائی جس سے بادشاہ صحتیاب ہوا۔

Verse 2Ki 20 8

And Hezekiah said unto Isaiah What shall be the sign that the LORD will heal me and that I shall go up into the house of the LORD the third day?

  • English Explanation: Despite the promise, Hezekiah seeks a tangible sign to confirm his faith that he will be well enough to worship at the Temple in three days.

  • Urdu Explanation: حِزقیاہ نے یسعیاہ سے ایک نشان مانگا تاکہ اسے یقین ہو جائے کہ وہ تیسرے دن ہیکل میں جا سکے گا۔

Verse 2Ki 20 9

And Isaiah said This sign shalt thou have of the LORD that the LORD will do the thing that he hath spoken shall the shadow go forth ten degrees or go back ten degrees?

  • English Explanation: Isaiah offers Hezekiah a choice of a miracle involving the movement of time/shadow on the sun dial.

  • Urdu Explanation: یسعیاہ نے حِزقیاہ کو اختیار دیا کہ وہ سائے کو دس درجے آگے بڑھتا یا پیچھے ہٹتا دیکھ کر خدا کی قدرت کا نشان پائے۔

Verse 2Ki 20 10

And Hezekiah answered It is a light thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees nay but let the shadow return backward ten degrees

  • English Explanation: Hezekiah chooses the more “impossible” sign—reversing the natural course of the sun’s shadow.

  • Urdu Explanation: حِزقیاہ نے کہا کہ سائے کا آگے بڑھنا تو معمولی بات ہے، اصل نشان یہ ہو گا کہ سایہ پیچھے کی طرف لوٹ جائے۔

Verse 2Ki 20 11

And Isaiah the prophet cried unto the LORD and he brought the shadow ten degrees backward by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz

  • English Explanation: God performs a cosmic miracle, reversing the shadow on the dial of Ahaz to confirm His promise.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا نے یسعیاہ کی دعا پر سورج کے سائے کو دس درجے پیچھے ہٹا دیا، جو کہ ایک عظیم معجزہ تھا۔

Verse 2Ki 20 12

At that time Berodach-baladan the son of Baladan king of Babylon sent letters and a present unto Hezekiah for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick

  • English Explanation: The King of Babylon sends envoys to Hezekiah, ostensibly to congratulate him on his recovery but also to scout an alliance.

  • Urdu Explanation: بابل کے بادشاہ نے حِزقیاہ کی بیماری اور صحتیابی کی خبر سن کر اپنے قاصد تحائف کے ساتھ بھیجے۔

Verse 2Ki 20 13

And Hezekiah hearkened unto them and shewed them all the house of his precious things the silver and the gold and the spices and the precious ointment and all the house of his armour and all that was found in his treasures there was nothing in his house nor in all his dominion that Hezekiah shewed them not

  • English Explanation: Hezekiah succumbs to pride, showing the foreign envoys all his wealth and military strength instead of glorifying God.

Verse 2Ki 20 14

Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah and said unto him What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said They are come from a far country even from Babylon

  • English Explanation: Isaiah questions Hezekiah about the visitors, sensing the danger of this new association.

  • Urdu Explanation: یسعیاہ نبی نے بادشاہ سے ان قاصدوں کے بارے میں پوچھا جنہوں نے حِزقیاہ کو متاثر کیا تھا۔

Verse 2Ki 20 15

And he said What have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah answered All the things that are in mine house have they seen there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them

  • English Explanation: Hezekiah admits he hid nothing, exposing Judah’s wealth to a future invader.

  • Urdu Explanation: حِزقیاہ نے اعتراف کیا کہ اس نے اپنے گھر اور خزانے کی ہر چیز ان کو دکھا دی ہے۔

Verse 2Ki 20 16

And Isaiah said unto Hezekiah Hear the word of the LORD

  • English Explanation: Isaiah prepares to deliver a message of judgment from God regarding Hezekiah’s lack of wisdom.

  • Urdu Explanation: یسعیاہ نے حِزقیاہ کو خدا کا پیغام سننے کی تاکید کی جو اس کی غلطی کے نتائج کے بارے میں تھا۔

Verse 2Ki 20 17

Behold the days come that all that is in thine house and that which thy fathers have laid up in store unto this day shall be carried into Babylon nothing shall be left saith the LORD

  • English Explanation: Isaiah prophesies that everything Hezekiah showed the Babylonians will eventually be looted by them.

  • Urdu Explanation: یسعیاہ نے پیشگوئی کی کہ ایک وقت آئے گا جب بابل کے لوگ یہ تمام خزانے لوٹ کر اپنے ملک لے جائیں گے۔

Verse 2Ki 20 18

And of thy sons that shall issue from thee which thou shalt beget shall they take away and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon

  • English Explanation: A harsh prophecy stating that Hezekiah’s descendants will be taken into captivity and serve in Babylon’s palace.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہ بھی بتایا گیا کہ حِزقیاہ کی نسل بابل میں قید ہو گی اور وہاں کے بادشاہ کے محل میں خدمت کرے گی۔

Verse 2Ki 20 19

Then said Hezekiah unto Isaiah Good is the word of the LORD which thou hast spoken And he said Is it not good if peace and truth be in my days?

  • English Explanation: Hezekiah accepts the judgment, feeling relieved that the disaster would not happen during his own lifetime.

  • Urdu Explanation: حِزقیاہ نے خدا کے فیصلے کو قبول کیا اور شکر ادا کیا کہ اس کے اپنے دور میں امن قائم رہے گا۔

Verse 2Ki 20 20

And the rest of the acts of Hezekiah and all his might and how he made a pool and a conduit and brought water into the city are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

Verse 2Ki 20 21

And Hezekiah slept with his fathers and Manasseh his son reigned in his stead

2 Kings Chapter 21:1–7

Verse 2Ki 21 1

Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign and reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem And his mother’s name was Hephzi-bah

  • English Explanation: Manasseh becomes king at a very young age and goes on to have the longest reign of any king of Judah.

  • Urdu Explanation: منسی بارہ سال کی عمر میں بادشاہ بنا اور اس نے یروشلم میں پچپن سال تک حکومت کی۔

Verse 2Ki 21 2

And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD after the abominations of the heathen whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel

  • English Explanation: Unlike his father, Manasseh was a wicked king who reverted to the pagan practices of the nations God had driven out.

  • Urdu Explanation: منسی نے وہ کام کیے جو خدا کی نظر میں برے تھے اور ان قوموں کے نقشِ قدم پر چلا جنہیں خدا نے نکال دیا تھا۔

Verse 2Ki 21 3

For he built up again the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed and he reared up altars for Baal and made a grove as did Ahab king of Israel and worshipped all the host of heaven and served them

  • English Explanation: Manasseh systematically undid Hezekiah’s religious reforms, introducing idol worship and astrology.

Verse 2Ki 21 4

And he built altars in the house of the LORD of which the LORD said In Jerusalem will I put my name

  • English Explanation: Manasseh committed the ultimate sacrilege by placing pagan altars inside the Temple of God in Jerusalem.

  • Urdu Explanation: اس نے خدا کے گھر (ہیکل) کے اندر غیر معبودوں کے لیے قربان گاہیں بنائیں۔

Verse 2Ki 21 5

And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD

  • English Explanation: He dedicated the Temple courts to the worship of stars and celestial bodies (astrolatry).

  • Urdu Explanation: اس نے ہیکل کے دونوں صحنوں میں ستاروں کی پرستش کے لیے قربان گاہیں بنائیں۔

Verse 2Ki 21 6

And he made his son pass through the fire and observed times and used enchantments and dealt with familiar spirits and wizards he wrought much wickedness in the sight of the LORD to provoke him to anger

  • English Explanation: Manasseh participated in extreme evils, including child sacrifice and occultism, deeply provoking God’s wrath.

  • Urdu Explanation: اس نے اپنے بیٹے کی قربانی آگ میں دی اور جادو ٹونے اور بدروحوں کے کاموں میں مشغول رہا۔

Verse 2Ki 21 7

And he set a graven image of the grove that he had made in the house of which the LORD said to David and to Solomon his son In this house and in Jerusalem which I have chosen out of all tribes of Israel will I put my name for ever

  • English Explanation: He placed a carved idol of Asherah in the Holy Temple, defying God’s promise to David and Solomon regarding the sanctity of that place.

  • Urdu Explanation: اس نے ہیکل میں ایک تراشا ہوا بت رکھا، جس جگہ کے بارے میں خدا نے فرمایا تھا کہ میرا نام ہمیشہ یہاں رہے گا۔
