Genesis 1:3–5 is one of the most recognized passages in the Bible. It marks the beginning of God’s creative work in bringing order to the universe. Before this moment, the earth is described as being without form, empty, and covered in darkness. With a single command, God introduces light into creation, demonstrating His absolute authority and limitless power.

The words “Let there be light” reveal that God creates simply by speaking. Unlike human beings, who must use materials and effort to build or create something, God brings light into existence by His word alone. This emphasizes His sovereignty over all creation. Throughout the Bible, God’s word is shown to be powerful, trustworthy, and effective.

The statement “and there was light” highlights the immediate obedience of creation to God’s command. There is no delay, struggle, or resistance. God’s will is accomplished instantly. This teaches believers that nothing is impossible for God and that His purposes cannot be prevented.

The verse continues by saying “God saw the light, that it was good.” The word “good” indicates that God’s creation is perfect, beneficial, and exactly as He intended. God’s declaration of goodness is not merely about appearance; it reflects completeness, purpose, and harmony.
