Matthew 2:7 Explanation (English)
Matthew 2:7 describes an important moment in the story of the birth of Jesus. After the wise men from the East arrived in Jerusalem searching for the newborn King of the Jews, King Herod secretly called them and carefully questioned them about the exact time when the star had appeared.
The verse says that Herod “privily called the wise men.” The word “privily” means secretly or privately. Herod did not openly announce his meeting with the wise men because his intentions were not sincere. He appeared interested in worshiping the child, but his heart was filled with fear and jealousy. Herod was already a powerful ruler, and the news of another king being born threatened his position and authority.
The wise men had followed the star because they believed it was a sign connected with the birth of a great king. Their journey showed faith, dedication, and a desire to seek truth. They traveled a long distance to honor the child they believed was worthy of worship. However, Herod viewed this child as a political threat rather than recognizing the spiritual significance of Jesus’ birth.
The phrase “enquired of them diligently” shows that Herod questioned the wise men carefully. He wanted detailed information about the star, especially the time when it first appeared. His careful questioning was not motivated by genuine worship or curiosity. Instead, he wanted to calculate the possible age of the child so he could carry out his own plans.
This verse reveals the difference between the hearts of Herod and the wise men. The wise men searched for Jesus with humility and devotion, while Herod searched for information with fear and selfish ambition. Both groups were interested in the same event, but their motives were completely different.
The star in this passage represents guidance and divine purpose. Throughout the Bible, God sometimes used signs in creation to guide people toward His plans. The star led the wise men to the place where Jesus was. However, Herod focused only on the information about the star and ignored the greater meaning behind it.
Matthew 2:7 also teaches that outward words do not always reveal inner intentions. Herod later told the wise men that he wanted to worship Jesus, but his actions showed otherwise. This reminds believers to seek sincerity in their relationship with God and to examine the motives of their hearts.
The verse also connects with the larger message of Matthew chapter 2. Jesus’ birth brought hope and salvation, but it also revealed opposition from those who rejected God’s purpose. The arrival of Jesus divided people: some responded with joy and worship, while others responded with fear and hostility.

متی 2:7 ایک بہت اہم واقعہ بیان کرتی ہے جو حضرت عیسیٰ کی پیدائش کے بعد پیش آیا۔ اس آیت میں بتایا گیا ہے کہ جب مشرق سے آنے والے عقلمند لوگ (Wise Men یا Magi) یروشلم پہنچے اور نئے پیدا ہونے والے بادشاہ کی تلاش کرنے لگے، تو بادشاہ ہیرودیس نے انہیں خفیہ طور پر بلایا اور بڑی احتیاط سے ان سے پوچھا کہ وہ ستارہ کس وقت ظاہر ہوا تھا۔
آیت میں الفاظ ہیں: “ہیرودیس نے پوشیدہ طور پر داناؤں کو بلایا۔” اس کا مطلب ہے کہ ہیرودیس نے یہ ملاقات سب کے سامنے نہیں کی بلکہ راز میں رکھی۔ اس کی وجہ یہ تھی کہ اس کے دل میں سچی عبادت کا جذبہ نہیں تھا۔ وہ بظاہر یہ ظاہر کرنا چاہتا تھا کہ وہ بھی اس بچے کو عزت دینا چاہتا ہے، لیکن حقیقت میں وہ خوف اور حسد کا شکار تھا۔

دوسری طرف، مشرق سے آنے والے داناؤں کا مقصد مختلف تھا۔ وہ ستارے کی رہنمائی کے ذریعے سفر کرتے ہوئے آئے تھے تاکہ نئے بادشاہ کو تلاش کریں اور اسے عزت دیں۔ ان کا سفر ایمان، قربانی اور سچائی کی تلاش کی مثال ہے۔ انہوں نے مشکلات برداشت کیں لیکن اپنے مقصد سے پیچھے نہیں ہٹے۔

ہیرودیس کے پاس طاقت، دولت اور حکومت تھی، لیکن اس کے دل میں امن نہیں تھا کیونکہ وہ خوف کے زیر اثر تھا۔ داناؤں کے پاس سفر کی مشکلات تھیں، لیکن انہیں حضرت عیسیٰ کو پانے کی خوشی حاصل ہوئی۔ یہ فرق ہمیں یاد دلاتا ہے کہ حقیقی خوشی دنیاوی طاقت میں نہیں بلکہ خدا کے مقصد کو پہچاننے اور اس کی پیروی کرنے میں ہے۔
