The book of Jude begins with a message of love and concern for believers. Jude addresses his readers as “Beloved,” showing that his warning and encouragement come from genuine care. He wanted to write about the “common salvation” that all believers share through faith in God’s saving work. However, a serious spiritual situation required him to change his purpose and give an urgent message.

Jude explains that he felt it necessary to encourage believers to “earnestly contend for the faith.” This phrase carries the meaning of standing firmly, defending, and protecting the truth of the Christian faith. It does not describe fighting with anger or hatred against people. Instead, it refers to faithfully holding onto the teachings, promises, and truths that God has given to His people.

The phrase “the faith which was once delivered unto the saints” refers to the complete and trustworthy message of salvation that was given to believers. Jude reminds the church that the foundation of faith is not something that changes according to human opinions or personal desires. The truth of God’s Word must be preserved and followed with commitment.

During Jude’s time, false teachers had entered among believers and were spreading ideas that damaged true faith. They twisted God’s grace and encouraged sinful living while claiming to represent spiritual truth. This verse teaches that believers have a responsibility to know the truth, follow the truth, and protect the truth. Faith is not only something to receive; it is also something to live out with courage and dedication. “Earnestly contend” also shows that faith requires effort. Spiritual growth does not happen automatically. Believers must pray, study Scripture, seek wisdom, and remain committed even when facing challenges. True faith produces a life that reflects obedience, love, humility, and devotion to God.

Jude’s message remains relevant today because people continue to face confusion, misleading teachings, and spiritual distractions. The call to contend for the faith encourages believers to return to the foundation of God’s Word and remain faithful to the truth. It reminds the church that protecting the message of salvation is a serious responsibility.

ایمان کے لیے کوشش کرنے کا مطلب یہ بھی ہے کہ ایک شخص اپنی زندگی میں خدا کی مرضی کو اہمیت دے۔ صرف زبانی ایمان کافی نہیں بلکہ ایمان زندگی کے اعمال، رویے، محبت، عاجزی اور فرمانبرداری سے ظاہر ہونا چاہیے۔
