“Therefore say thou unto them”
The verse begins with God instructing the prophet Zechariah to deliver His message to the people. The word “Therefore” connects this command with the preceding context. Zechariah had already reminded the people that their ancestors had faced the consequences of turning away from God.
The lesson was clear: they should not repeat the mistakes of previous generations.
God was giving His people an opportunity to respond differently. Their past could serve as a warning, but it did not have to determine their future.
