Ezekiel 33:32

Verse: “And lo thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice and can play well on an instrument for they hear thy words but they do them not.”

  • English Explanation: God warns Ezekiel that the people view him merely as a source of entertainment rather than a divine messenger. They appreciate his eloquence, delivery, and the poetic beauty of his words—much like listening to a beautifully performed song—but they have no intention of changing their lives or obeying the message. It highlights the danger of superficial religious consumption where people enjoy the sermon but refuse to apply its truth.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیلی وضاحت): خدا حزقی ایل کو متبہ کرتا ہے کہ لوگ اُسے صرف ایک تفریح کا ذریعہ سمجھتے ہیں نہ کہ خدا کا سچا پیغمبر۔ وہ اُس کے بولنے کے انداز، فصاحت اور کلام کی خوبصورتی کا ویسے ہی لطف اٹھاتے ہیں جیسے کسی سُرِیلے گیت یا ساز کا، لیکن ان کے دلوں میں تبدیلی کا کوئی ارادہ نہیں ہوتا۔ وہ کلام کو سنتے تو ہیں پر اس پر عمل نہیں کرتے۔ یہ آیت ظاہری دینداری اور دلی نافرمانی کی نشاندہی کرتی ہے۔

Ezekiel 33:33

Verse: “And when this cometh to pass lo it will come then shall they know that a prophet hath been among them.”

  • English Explanation: When the judgments and prophecies Ezekiel spoke of actually take place, the people will finally realize that he was not just an entertainer, but a true prophet of God. By then, however, it will be too late to avoid the consequences of their stubborn disobedience. Vindication of God’s word comes through its literal fulfillment.

Ezekiel 34:1

Verse: “And the word of the LORD came unto me saying”

Ezekiel 34:2

Verse: “Son of man prophesy against the shepherds of Israel prophesy and say unto them Thus saith the Lord GOD unto the shepherds Woe be to the shepherds of Israel that do feed themselves should not the shepherds feed the flocks?”

Ezekiel 34:3

Verse: “Ye eat the fat and ye clothe you with the wool ye kill them that are fed but ye feed not the flock.”

The leaders take the best of what the people have—consuming the fat, wearing luxury wool, and destroying the healthy members of the community for personal gain—while completely neglecting their duty to provide spiritual, moral, and physical sustenance to the nation.

Ezekiel 34:4

Verse: “The diseased have ye not strengthened neither have ye healed that which was sick neither have ye bound up that which was broken neither have ye brought again that which was driven away neither have ye sought that which was lost but with force and with cruelty have ye ruled them.”

  • English Explanation: This verse lists five critical failures of leadership: failing to strengthen the weak, heal the sick, bind the broken, retrieve the straying, or seek the lost. Instead of leading with compassion, love, and justice, these false shepherds ruled the people with absolute tyranny, harshness, and raw force.

Ezekiel 34:5

Verse: “And they were scattered because there is no shepherd and they became meat to all the beasts of the field when they were scattered.”

  • English Explanation: Due to the complete absence of genuine, caring leadership, the people of Israel became vulnerable and scattered. Without guidance, they fell victim to surrounding pagan nations and spiritual destruction, here symbolized as “beasts of the field” devouring the unprotected sheep.

Ezekiel 34:6

Verse: “My sheep wandered through all the mountains and upon every high hill yea my flock was scattered upon all the face of the earth and none did search or seek after them.”

  • English Explanation: God affectionately calls the people “My sheep” and “My flock,” emphasizing that the leaders misplaced what belonged to God. The people wandered aimlessly across the known world into exile, isolated and terrified, with absolutely no leader stepping up to seek them out or bring them home.

Ezekiel 34:7

Verse: “Therefore ye shepherds hear the word of the LORD”

Ezekiel 34:8

Verse: “As I live saith the Lord GOD surely because my flock became a prey and my flock became meat to every beast of the field because there was no shepherd neither did my shepherds search for my flock but the shepherds fed themselves and fed not my flock”

Ezekiel 34:9

Verse: “Therefore O ye shepherds hear the word of the LORD”

  • English Explanation: The divine summons is repeated for emphasis. The repetition creates dramatic tension and underscores that God’s patience with self-serving, abusive leaders has completely run out.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیلی وضاحت): تاکید کے لیے خدا ایک بار پھر فرماتا ہے: “اے چرواہو، خداوند کا کلام سنو!” یہ تکرار ظاہر کرتی ہے کہ اب خدا کے صبر کا پیمانہ لبریز ہو چکا ہے اور سزا ناگزیر ہے۔

Ezekiel 34:10

Verse: “Thus saith the Lord GOD Behold I am against the shepherds and I will require my flock at their hand and cause them to cease from feeding the flock neither shall the shepherds feed themselves any more for I will deliver my flock from their mouth that they may not be meat for them.”

Ezekiel 34:11

Verse: “For thus saith the Lord GOD Behold I even I will both search my sheep and seek them out.”

  • English Explanation: The tone shifts beautifully from judgment to profound grace. Because human leadership failed miserably, God announces that He will personally step in. The emphatic “I, even I” shows God taking direct, sovereign responsibility to find and rescue His scattered people.

Ezekiel 34:12

Verse: “As a shepherd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered so will I seek out my sheep and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day.”

  • English Explanation: God uses the imagery of a dedicated, faithful shepherd who goes out into a storm to round up a panicked, scattered flock. The “cloudy and dark day” refers to the time of national crisis, exile, and judgment. God promises to find them, no matter how dark the circumstances or how far they have drifted.

Ezekiel 34:13

Verse: “And I will bring them out from the people and gather them from the countries and will bring them to their own land and feed them upon the mountains of Israel by the rivers and in all the inhabited places of the country.”

  • English Explanation: This is a multi-layered prophecy of restoration. God promises a literal and spiritual homecoming: He will gather the exiles from foreign nations, bring them back to their ancestral homeland, and settle them in prosperous, well-watered places of safety and abundance.

Ezekiel 34:14

Verse: “I will feed them in a good pasture and upon the high mountains of Israel shall their fold be there shall they lie in a good fold and in a fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel.”

  • English Explanation: God promises a future marked by rest, security, and spiritual abundance. The “good pasture” and “fat pasture” signify that the people will no longer be starved of truth or material needs, while the “good fold” represents a secure, permanent dwelling place free from terror.

Ezekiel 34:15

Verse: “I will feed my flock and I will cause them to lie down saith the Lord GOD.”

Ezekiel 34:16

Verse: “I will seek that which was lost and bring again that which was driven away and will bind up that which was broken and will strengthen that which was sick but I will destroy the fat and the strong I will feed them with judgment.”

  • English Explanation: God promises to perfectly execute what the bad leaders refused to do (seeking, binding, healing). However, He also introduces internal judgment: the “fat and the strong” (those within the flock who grew rich by exploiting others) will not be spared; they will be fed with the consequences of their actions through divine justice.

Ezekiel 34:17

Verse: “And as for you O my flock thus saith the Lord GOD Behold I judge between cattle and cattle between the rams and the he goats.”

  • English Explanation: God shifts His focus to the individuals within the flock itself. He notes that accountability is not just for the top leadership, but also applies among ordinary people. He will separate and judge between the aggressive, oppressive individuals (“rams and he goats”) and the vulnerable ones.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیلی وضاحت): اب خدا گلے کے عام لوگوں کی طرف متوجہ ہوتا ہے۔ وہ واضح کرتا ہے کہ حساب صرف بڑے لیڈروں سے ہی نہیں بلکہ عام لوگوں سے بھی ہوگا۔ وہ بھیڑوں اور بھیڑوں کے درمیان، اور مینڈھوں اور بکروں (یعنی ظالم اور مظلوم شہریوں) کے درمیان تمیز اور انصاف کرے گا۔

Ezekiel 34:18

Verse: “Seemeth it a small thing unto you to have eaten up the good pasture but ye must tread down with your feet the residue of your pastures? and to have drunk of the deep waters but ye must foul the residue with your feet?”

  • English Explanation: God rebukes the wealthy and powerful citizens who were not satisfied with simply taking the best resources for themselves. In their greed and malice, they intentionally trampled the remaining grass and muddied the clean water, ruinously preventing the poorer, weaker sheep from eating or drinking.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیلی وضاحت): خدا ان خودغرض اور امیر لوگوں کو متبہ کرتا ہے جو نہ صرف خود اچھی چراگاہیں کھاتے اور صاف پانی پیتے تھے، بلکہ اپنی حرس اور تکبر میں باقی بچی ہوئی گھاس کو پاؤں سے روند ڈالتے اور صاف پانی کو پاؤں سے گدلا (گندہ) کر دیتے تھے تاکہ غریب اور کمزور بھیڑیں اس سے فائدہ نہ اٹھا سکیں۔

Ezekiel 34:19

Verse: “And as for my flock they eat that which ye have trodden with your feet and they drink that which ye have fouled with your feet.”

  • English Explanation: God highlights the heartbreaking plight of the vulnerable: His beloved, oppressed people are forced to survive on ruined resources—eating trampled grass and drinking contaminated, muddy water left behind by their arrogant peers.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیلی وضاحت): خدا مظلوموں کی بے بسی کو بیان کرتا ہے کہ میرے گلے کی لاچار بھیڑوں کو وہ گھاس کھانی پڑتی ہے جسے طاقتوروں نے پیروں تلے روندا، اور وہ گندا پانی پینا پڑتا ہے جسے انہوں نے مٹیالا کر دیا تھا۔ یہ معاشی اور معاشرتی ناہمواری پر خدا کا افسوس ہے۔

Ezekiel 34:20

Verse: “Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD unto them Behold I even I will judge between the fat cattle and between the lean cattle.”

  • English Explanation: Due to this systemic cruelty among the people, God intervenes once again as the ultimate Judge. He reiterates His absolute commitment to vindicate the “lean cattle” (the poor, exploited, and weak) and bring down the “fat cattle” (the wealthy, arrogant oppressors).

Ezekiel 34:21

Verse: “Because ye have thrust with side and with shoulder and pushed all the diseased with your horns till ye have scattered them abroad”

  • English Explanation: This verse vividly describes the physical, violent bullying within the community. The strong used their shoulders, bodies, and horns (representing power and influence) to shove, bully, and marginalize the sick and fragile until they were forced out of the community and scattered.

Ezekiel 34:22

Verse: “Therefore will I save my flock and they shall no more be a prey and I will judge between cattle and cattle.”

  • English Explanation: In this powerful climax, God promises definitive salvation. He will personally step into human history to save His flock from both external predators and internal bullies. Exploitation will end forever, established through His perfect, unerring, divine justice.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیلی وضاحت): اس شاندار نتیجے میں، خدا قطعی نجات کا وعدہ فرماتا ہے: “میں اپنے گلے کو بچاؤں گا”۔ اب وہ نہ تو بیرونی دشمنوں کا شکار بنیں گے اور نہ ہی اپنے اندرونی ظالموں کا پامال ہوں گے۔ خدا ہر ایک کے اعمال کے مطابق کامل انصاف قائم کرے گا۔
