1. “And Joseph died”
The first part of the verse tells us that Joseph died. Joseph’s life had been extraordinary. He had moved from being a favored son in his father’s household to becoming a slave, then a prisoner, and finally a powerful ruler in Egypt.
Joseph’s death reminds us that even people who have played major roles in God’s purposes eventually pass away. Human leaders, families, and generations have a limited time on earth. Joseph had accomplished an important mission during his lifetime, but his death did not mean that God’s purposes had ended.
Instead, the story continued beyond Joseph.
