Genesis 37:9 records the second significant dream of Joseph during his youth. Joseph had already shared a dream with his brothers in which their sheaves stood around his sheaf and bowed down to it. His second dream contains even more striking imagery: the sun, the moon, and eleven stars bow before him. Joseph again tells his brothers about the dream, which becomes an important part of the story of his life and God’s providential plan.

The verse begins with the words, “And he dreamed yet another dream.” This shows that Joseph’s experience was not limited to one unusual dream. He received another dream containing a different picture but pointing toward a related theme. The repetition is important because it emphasizes that the events represented by the dreams would have significance in Joseph’s future.

Joseph then “told it his brethren.” Joseph did not keep the dream to himself. He shared it with his brothers just as he had shared his earlier dream. His brothers had already reacted negatively to his first dream, and this second dream would naturally make their feelings even stronger. The passage therefore continues the tension that had already developed within Jacob’s family.

Joseph says, “Behold, I have dreamed a dream more.” The wording emphasizes that this was another dream connected with the previous one. The first dream involved agricultural sheaves, while the second involved heavenly bodies. Both images communicate the idea of bowing or submission.

The most remarkable part of the dream is the statement, “behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me.” In the symbolic language of the dream, the sun, moon, and eleven stars represent members of Joseph’s family. Later in the chapter, Jacob understands the imagery as referring to himself, Joseph’s mother, and Joseph’s eleven brothers.

The eleven stars correspond naturally to Joseph’s eleven brothers. The reference to the sun and moon represents Joseph’s parents in the interpretation given within the chapter. Thus, the dream points toward a future situation in which Joseph would occupy a position of great authority and his family would recognize his elevated position.

However, Genesis 37:9 should not be read simply as a story about Joseph seeking personal superiority. The larger narrative shows that Joseph’s rise was connected with God’s providence. Years later, Joseph would experience hardship, separation from his family, imprisonment, and eventually a position of authority in Egypt. His authority would eventually become important for the preservation of his family during a severe famine.

An important theme in this passage is God’s sovereignty over future events. Joseph was young and could not have known how the dream would be fulfilled. At this stage of the story, the dream may have seemed impossible or even offensive to his brothers. Yet the later events of Genesis demonstrate that Joseph’s life was moving toward a remarkable purpose.

The reaction of Joseph’s family is also significant. Dreams can reveal something about a person’s future, but the way people respond to God’s purposes can be very different. Joseph’s brothers responded with jealousy and hostility. Jacob, although troubled by the dream, continued to think about what Joseph had said. This difference in response becomes an important part of the family story.

Another lesson from Genesis 37:9 concerns God’s timing. The dream did not mean that Joseph would immediately become a ruler. There were many years of difficulty before the circumstances represented by the dream began to make sense. Joseph had to pass through experiences that he could not have anticipated.

This teaches an important spiritual principle: understanding God’s purpose may require patience. A promise, calling, or significant event may not be fulfilled immediately. Joseph’s story demonstrates that difficult circumstances do not necessarily mean that God’s purpose has failed.

The verse also reminds readers that God can work through circumstances that appear unrelated to the final outcome. Joseph’s later journey from Canaan to Egypt seemed at first to be a disaster. His brothers’ actions separated him from his family. Yet those events eventually became part of the path through which Joseph reached a position where he could help many people.

Genesis 37:9 therefore serves as an important foundation for the remainder of Joseph’s story. The dream creates a picture of Joseph’s future exaltation, while the chapters that follow explain the difficult journey between the dream and its eventual fulfillment.

آیت کا آغاز اس طرح ہوتا ہے:

یعنی حضرت یوسف نے ایک اور خواب دیکھا۔ اس بات سے معلوم ہوتا ہے کہ یہ خواب پہلے خواب سے الگ تھا، لیکن دونوں خوابوں کا بنیادی مفہوم ایک دوسرے سے متعلق تھا۔ دونوں میں حضرت یوسف کے مستقبل میں بلند مقام کی طرف اشارہ پایا جاتا ہے۔

پھر حضرت یوسف نے اپنا خواب اپنے بھائیوں کو بتایا:

“and told it his brethren”

حضرت یوسف نے اس خواب کو اپنے بھائیوں سے چھپایا نہیں بلکہ انہیں بتا دیا۔ پہلے خواب کے بعد بھی ان کے بھائی ان سے ناراض اور حسد کرنے لگے تھے۔ دوسرے خواب نے ان کے جذبات کو مزید بھڑکا دیا۔

حضرت یوسف نے کہا:

“Behold, I have dreamed a dream more”

یعنی دیکھو، میں نے ایک اور خواب دیکھا ہے۔ اس کے بعد خواب کی خاص علامت بیان کی جاتی ہے:

“the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me.”

یعنی سورج، چاند اور گیارہ ستاروں نے حضرت یوسف کو تعظیم دی اور ان کے سامنے جھکے۔

اس خواب کی اہمیت اس لیے زیادہ ہے کیونکہ بعد میں اسی باب میں حضرت یعقوب نے اس خواب کے مفہوم کو سمجھنے کی کوشش کی۔ گیارہ ستارے حضرت یوسف کے گیارہ بھائیوں کی طرف اشارہ کرتے ہیں، جبکہ سورج اور چاند والدین کی نمائندگی کرتے ہیں۔ یوں خواب میں حضرت یوسف کا خاندان ان کے سامنے جھکتا ہوا دکھایا گیا ہے۔

یہ خواب حضرت یوسف کی مستقبل کی بلندی اور اختیار کی طرف اشارہ کرتا ہے۔ لیکن اس وقت حضرت یوسف خود بھی شاید یہ نہیں جانتے تھے کہ یہ خواب کس طرح پورا ہوگا۔ انہیں یہ بھی معلوم نہیں تھا کہ اس خواب کی تکمیل تک انہیں کتنی مشکلات سے گزرنا پڑے گا۔

حضرت یوسف کی زندگی میں اس کے بعد بہت سے مشکل مراحل آئے۔ ان کے بھائیوں نے ان سے دشمنی کی، وہ اپنے خاندان سے جدا ہوئے، مصر پہنچے، غلامی کا سامنا کیا اور بعد میں قید بھی ہوئی۔ بظاہر یہ تمام حالات اس خواب کے بالکل برعکس معلوم ہوتے تھے۔

لیکن پیدائش کی کتاب کی مکمل داستان یہ ظاہر کرتی ہے کہ God کی قدرت اور حکمت انسانی حالات سے کہیں بڑی ہے۔ جو حالات ابتدا میں تباہی محسوس ہوتے تھے، وہی آخرکار حضرت یوسف کے لیے ایک ایسے مقام تک پہنچنے کا ذریعہ بنے جہاں وہ بہت سے لوگوں کی مدد کر سکے۔

یہ آیت ہمیں صبر کا سبق بھی دیتی ہے۔ خواب فوراً حقیقت نہیں بن گیا۔ حضرت یوسف کو اپنے خواب اور اس کی تکمیل کے درمیان ایک طویل اور مشکل سفر طے کرنا پڑا۔

اس سے یہ روحانی سبق ملتا ہے کہ God کے منصوبے ہمیشہ انسان کی اپنی گھڑی کے مطابق ظاہر نہیں ہوتے۔ بعض اوقات انسان کسی مقصد یا وعدے کو سمجھنے سے پہلے مشکلات کے مختلف مراحل سے گزرتا ہے۔

اس آیت میں خاندانی حسد کا پہلو بھی بہت اہم ہے۔ حضرت یوسف کے بھائی پہلے ہی محسوس کرتے تھے کہ ان کے والد انہیں زیادہ محبت دیتے ہیں۔ جب انہوں نے یہ خواب سنا کہ سورج، چاند اور گیارہ ستارے بھی حضرت یوسف کے سامنے جھکتے ہیں، تو ان کا حسد مزید بڑھ گیا۔

یہ ہمیں خبردار کرتا ہے کہ حسد خاندان اور رشتوں کو نقصان پہنچا سکتا ہے۔ اگر انسان کسی دوسرے شخص کی کامیابی یا عزت کو برداشت نہ کر سکے تو دل میں پیدا ہونے والی ناراضی آہستہ آہستہ بڑے مسائل میں تبدیل ہو سکتی ہے۔

ساتھ ہی، حضرت یوسف کی کہانی ہمیں یہ بھی سکھاتی ہے کہ بلندی کے ساتھ ذمہ داری آتی ہے۔ بعد میں جب حضرت یوسف مصر میں ایک بااختیار مقام پر پہنچے تو ان کا اختیار صرف ذاتی فائدے کے لیے نہیں تھا۔ قحط کے زمانے میں ان کی ذمہ داری بہت سے لوگوں کی زندگیوں سے جڑی ہوئی تھی، جن میں ان کا اپنا خاندان بھی شامل تھا۔

لہٰذا Genesis 37:9 کو صرف ایک عجیب خواب کے طور پر نہیں دیکھنا چاہیے۔ یہ حضرت یوسف کی پوری زندگی کے لیے ایک اہم پیش خیمہ ہے۔ خواب میں نظر آنے والی علامات بعد کے واقعات کے ذریعے زیادہ واضح ہوتی ہیں۔

اس آیت کا ایک مرکزی پیغام یہ ہے کہ God مستقبل کو جانتا ہے، لیکن انسان ہمیشہ اس مستقبل تک پہنچنے والا راستہ نہیں جانتا۔ حضرت یوسف نے خواب دیکھا، لیکن انہیں یہ معلوم نہیں تھا کہ خواب کی حقیقت تک پہنچنے کے لیے انہیں کن حالات سے گزرنا ہوگا۔

آج اس آیت کا مطالعہ کرنے والا شخص بھی صبر، عاجزی، ایمان اور God پر بھروسے کے موضوعات پر غور کر سکتا ہے۔ حضرت یوسف کی زندگی دکھاتی ہے کہ مشکل حالات ہمیشہ آخری باب نہیں ہوتے۔ زندگی کے ایک مرحلے میں جو چیز شکست محسوس ہوتی ہے، وہ بعد میں کسی بڑے مقصد کا حصہ بن سکتی ہے۔
