Part 1: The Gospel According to Mark (Chapter 16)

Mark 16:1

Verse: And when the sabbath was past Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Salome had bought sweet spices that they might come and anoint him

  • English Explanation: This verse marks the transition from the heavy grief of the Sabbath to action. As soon as the Jewish Sabbath ended at sundown, the women—driven by deep devotion and love for Jesus—purchased aromatic spices. Their intent was traditional and practical: to properly anoint and honor the body of Jesus, which had been buried in haste before the Sabbath began.

Mark 16:2

Verse: And very early in the morning the first day of the week they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun

  • English Explanation: The timeline shifts to Sunday morning (“the first day of the week”). The women set out while it was still dark and arrived at the tomb just as the sun was rising. This setting symbolizes a physical and spiritual dawn—the beginning of a completely new era in human history.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہ وقت ہفتے کے پہلے دن (اتوار) کی صبحِ صادق کا ہے۔ یہ عورتیں صبح سویرے ہی قبر کی طرف نکل پڑیں اور سورج نکلتے ہی وہاں پہنچیں۔ یہ منظر نہ صرف ایک نئی صبح کو بلکہ کائنات کی تاریخ میں ایک نئے روحانی دور کے آغاز کو ظاہر کرتا ہے۔

Mark 16:3

Verse: And they said among themselves Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre

  • English Explanation: As they walked, a practical dilemma weighed on their minds. The entrance to the tomb had been sealed with a massive, heavy stone. Knowing their own physical limitations, they wondered how they would manage to move it to gain access to Jesus’ body.

  • Urdu Explanation: راستے میں ان کے ذہنوں میں ایک عملی فکر تھی کہ قبر کے دروازے پر ایک بہت بڑا اور بھاری پتھر رکھا گیا تھا۔ اپنی کمزوری کا احساس کرتے ہوئے وہ آپس میں کہنے لگیں کہ ہمارے لیے اس بھاری پتھر کو کون ہٹائے گا تاکہ ہم اندر جا سکیں۔

Mark 16:4

Verse: And when they looked they saw that the stone was rolled away for it was very great

  • English Explanation: Upon arrival, their anxiety turned to astonishment. Looking up, they discovered that the immense stone—which would have required several strong men to move—had already been rolled aside. God had already cleared the way before they even arrived.

  • Urdu Explanation: جب انہوں نے پہنچ کر دیکھا تو ان کی فکر حیرت میں بدل گئی۔ وہ بھاری پتھر، جسے ہٹانے کے لیے کئی مردوں کی ضرورت تھی، پہلے ہی سے ہٹا ہوا تھا۔ خدا نے ان کے پہنچنے سے پہلے ہی راستہ صاف کر دیا تھا۔

Mark 16:5

Verse: And entering into the sepulchre they saw a young man sitting on the right side clothed in a long white garment and they were affrighted

  • English Explanation: Stepping inside the tomb, they did not find a body; instead, they encountered a heavenly messenger (an angel) appearing as a young man dressed in a brilliant white robe. The supernatural brilliance and unexpected sight overwhelmed the women with fear and awe.

  • Urdu Explanation: جب وہ قبر کے اندر داخل ہوئیں تو وہاں کوئی لاش نہ تھی، بلکہ انہوں نے ایک جوان (فرشتے) کو سفید لباس پہنے داہنی طرف بیٹھے دیکھا۔ اس غیبی اور پرجلال منظر کو دیکھ کر وہ سخت خوفزدہ اور حیران ہو گئیں۔

Mark 16:6

Verse: And he saith unto them Be not affrighted Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth which was crucified he is risen he is not here behold the place where they laid him

  • English Explanation: The angel immediately comforts them, telling them not to fear. He delivers the core message of the Christian faith: Jesus of Nazareth, who was publicly crucified, has conquered death. The empty space serves as physical proof of His resurrection.

  • Urdu Explanation: فرشتے نے فوراً ان کی تسلی کی اور کہا کہ خوفزدہ نہ ہو۔ تم یسوع ناصری کو ڈھونڈتی ہو جو مصلوب ہوا تھا؛ وہ جی اٹھا ہے اور یہاں نہیں ہے۔ اس نے خالی جگہ دکھاتے ہوئے کہا کہ دیکھو یہ وہ جگہ ہے جہاں انہوں نے اسے رکھا تھا۔

Mark 16:7

Verse: But go your way tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee there shall ye see him as he said unto you

  • English Explanation: The women are given a divine commission to share the good news. Notably, Peter is mentioned by name—a beautiful sign of grace and restoration for the disciple who had recently denied Jesus. Jesus honors His previous promise to meet them in Galilee.

  • Urdu Explanation: فرشتے نے انہیں خوشخبری سنانے کا حکم دیا۔ یہاں خاص طور پر پطرس کا نام لیا گیا، جو پطرس کے لیے معافی اور بحالی کا ایک خوبصورت پیغام تھا کیونکہ اس نے یسوع کا انکار کیا تھا۔ یسوع اپنے وعدے کے مطابق ان سے گلیل میں ملنے جا رہے تھے۔

Mark 16:8

Verse: And they went out quickly and fled from the sepulchre for they trembled and were amazed neither said they any thing to any man for they were afraid

  • English Explanation: Overwhelmed by a mixture of terror, ecstasy, and utter shock, the women rushed out of the tomb. The weight of what they had witnessed was so immense that they initially fled in silence, too stunned to speak to anyone on their way.

  • Urdu Explanation: خوف، حیرت اور شدید جوش کے ملے جلے جذبات کے ساتھ وہ عورتیں فوراً قبر سے نکل کر بھاگیں۔ جو کچھ انہوں نے دیکھا تھا وہ اتنا عظیم اور حیران کن تھا کہ شروع میں وہ خوف کے مارے خاموش رہیں اور کسی سے کچھ نہ کہہ سکیں۔

Mark 16:9

Verse: Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week he appeared first to Mary Magdalene out of whom he had cast seven devils

  • English Explanation: This verse highlights Christ’s grace in appearing first to Mary Magdalene—someone with a dark past from whom He had cast out seven demons. It underscores that the first witness to the greatest event in history was a transformed follower of humble status.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہ آیت مسیح کے فضل کو ظاہر کرتی ہے کہ جی اٹھنے کے بعد وہ سب سے پہلے مریم مگدلینی پر ظاہر ہوئے، جس میں سے انہوں نے سات بدروحیں نکالی تھیں۔ یہ اس بات کا ثبوت ہے کہ تاریخ کے عظیم ترین واقعے کی پہلی گواہ ایک عام اور تبدیل شدہ عورت بنی۔

Mark 16:10

Verse: And she went and told them that had been with him as they mourned and wept

  • English Explanation: Mary Magdalene obeys the command and goes to find the disciples. She finds them completely broken, grieving, and crying over the death of their Master, entirely unaware that the ultimate victory had just been won.

  • Urdu Explanation: مریم مگدلینی نے جا کر یسوع کے ساتھیوں (شاگردوں) کو بتایا۔ اس نے انہیں حالتِ غم میں روتے اور ماتم کرتے ہوئے پایا، کیونکہ وہ اب تک اس عظیم فتح اور سچائی سے ناواقف تھے جو رونما ہو چکی تھی۔

Mark 16:11

Verse: And they when they had heard that he was alive and had been seen of her believed not

  • English Explanation: Despite hearing direct eyewitness testimony that Jesus was alive, the disciples refused to believe. Their grief and cultural skepticism blinded them, showing how difficult it is for human logic to comprehend the reality of the resurrection without divine faith.

  • Urdu Explanation: جب شاگردوں نے مریم سے سنا کہ یسوع زندہ ہیں اور اس نے انہیں دیکھا ہے، تو انہوں نے یقین نہ کیا۔ ان کا غم اور انسانی سوچ ان پر حاوی تھی، جو ظاہر کرتی ہے کہ خدا کے معجزات کو سمجھنے کے لیے ایمان کی ضرورت ہوتی ہے۔

Mark 16:12

Verse: After that he appeared in another form unto two of them as they walked and went into the country

  • English Explanation: This refers to the famous post-resurrection appearance on the road to Emmaus. Jesus reveals Himself to two disciples traveling out to the countryside, but He appears in a manner that keeps them from recognizing Him immediately, teaching them through the Scriptures first.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہ آیت امائوس کے راستے کے واقعے کی طرف اشارہ کرتی ہے۔ یسوع ایک بدلی ہوئی صورت میں اپنے دو شاگردوں پر ظاہر ہوئے جو دیہات کی طرف جا رہے تھے، تاکہ وہ انہیں فوراً نہ پہچانیں بلکہ کلام کے ذریعے ان کی رہنمائی کریں۔

Mark 16:13

Verse: And they went and told it unto the residue neither believed they them

  • English Explanation: The two disciples rushed back to share their incredible encounter with the rest of the followers (“the residue”). Shockingly, the pattern of doubt continued; the remaining disciples still rejected the testimony, locked in their unbelief.

  • Urdu Explanation: ان دو شاگردوں نے بھی واپس جا کر باقی ساتھیوں کو مطلع کیا کہ انہوں نے خداوند کو دیکھا ہے۔ لیکن افسوس کہ باقی شاگردوں نے ان کی بات پر بھی یقین نہ کیا اور شک کی حالت میں رہے۔

Mark 16:14

Verse: Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen

  • Explanation: Jesus finally appears directly to the eleven remaining apostles while they are eating. Instead of offering immediate praise, He gently yet firmly rebukes (“upbraids”) them for their stubbornness and hard hearts because they ignored multiple reliable eyewitness accounts of His resurrection.

  • Urdu Explanation: آخر کار یسوع الیون (گیارہ) رسولوں پر ظاہر ہوئے جب وہ کھانا کھا رہے تھے۔ انہوں نے شاگردوں کو ان کی بے ایمانی اور سخت دلی کی وجہ سے ملامت کی، کیونکہ انہوں نے ان گواہوں کی بات کا یقین نہیں کیا تھا جنہوں نے جی اٹھنے کے بعد یسوع کو دیکھا تھا۔

Mark 16:15

Verse: And he said unto them Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature

  • English Explanation: This is the Great Commission. Jesus commands His followers to break past geographical, ethnic, and social boundaries. They are tasked with bringing the good news of salvation to every single human being on earth.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہ یسوع مسیح کا “عظیم حکم” ہے۔ انہوں نے اپنے شاگردوں کو حکم دیا کہ وہ تمام دنیا میں جائیں اور ہر ایک انسان (مخلوق) کے سامنے انجیل یعنی نجات کی خوشخبری کی منادی کریں۔

Mark 16:16

Verse: He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved but he that believeth not shall be damned

  • English Explanation: Jesus lays out the absolute conditions of salvation. True faith, outwardly confessed and sealed through baptism, leads to eternal salvation. Conversely, a deliberate refusal to believe seals a person’s condemnation, as they reject the only remedy for sin.

  • Urdu Explanation: یسوع نے نجات کی شرط واضح کی: جو کوئی ایمان لائے گا اور بپتسمہ لے گا وہ نجات پائے گا، لیکن جو ایمان نہ لائے گا وہ مجرم قرار دیا جائے گا۔ ایمان نہ لانا انسان کو خدا کی رحمت سے دور کر دیتا ہے۔

Mark 16:17

Verse: And these signs shall follow them that believe In my name shall they cast out devils they shall speak with new tongues

  • English Explanation: Jesus promises supernatural empowerment to confirm the truth of the Gospel message. Believers will be granted authority over demonic forces in His name and the spiritual capability to speak in new languages to spread the message effectively.

  • Urdu Explanation: یسوع نے وعدہ کیا کہ ایمان لانے والوں کے ساتھ الٰہی نشانات ہوں گے۔ وہ میرے نام سے بدروحوں کو نکالیں گے اور نئی زبانیں بولیں گے، تاکہ کلام کی سچائی کی تصدیق ہو سکے۔

Mark 16:18

Verse: They shall take up serpents and if they drink any deadly thing it shall not hurt them they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover

  • English Explanation: This verse guarantees divine protection and healing power for the early Church as they faced intense persecution. While doing God’s work, accidental exposure to poisons or dangers would not harm them, and praying for the sick would bring physical restoration.

  • Urdu Explanation: اس آیت میں منادی کے دوران الٰہی حفاظت اور شفا کا وعدہ ہے۔ اگر وہ نادانستہ طور پر سانپوں یا زہریلی چیزوں کا سامنا کریں گے تو انہیں نقصان نہ پہنچے گا، اور جب وہ بیماروں پر ہاتھ رکھیں گے تو وہ شفا پائیں گے۔

Mark 16:19

Verse: So then after the Lord had spoken unto them he was received up into heaven and sat on the right hand of God

  • English Explanation: Having completed His earthly mission and given His final instructions, Jesus ascends physically into heaven. His position at “the right hand of God” signifies supreme authority, victory, and His role as the ultimate ruler and intercessor.

  • Urdu Explanation: اپنا زمینی مشن پورا کرنے کے بعد، خداوند یسوع آسمان پر اٹھا لیے گئے اور خدا کے داہنے ہاتھ جا بیٹھے۔ یہ مقام کائنات پر ان کی حاکمیت، فتح اور جلال کو ظاہر کرتا ہے۔

Mark 16:20

Verse: And they went forth and preached every where the Lord working with them and confirming the word with signs following Amen

  • English Explanation: The Gospel of Mark concludes with dynamic action. Armed with the Holy Spirit, the disciples traveled everywhere to preach. They were never alone; Jesus actively worked with them from heaven, validating their message through miracles.

  • Urdu Explanation: مرقس کی انجیل کا اختتام شاگردوں کی محنت پر ہوتا ہے۔ وہ ہر جگہ منادی کے لیے نکل کھڑے ہوئے اور خداوند ان کے ساتھ کام کرتا رہا اور معجزات کے ذریعے کلام کی تصدیق کرتا رہا۔ آمین۔

Part 2: The Gospel According to Luke (Chapter 1)

Luke 1:1

Verse: Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us

  • English Explanation: Luke opens his Gospel with an intellectual and historical preface. He acknowledges that several other writers before him had already attempted to compile narratives regarding the life, ministry, and miracles of Jesus Christ, which formed the bedrock of early Christian faith.

  • Urdu Explanation: لوقا اپنی انجیل کا آغاز ایک تاریخی مقدمے سے کرتا ہے۔ وہ کہتا ہے کہ بہت سے لوگوں نے ان باتوں کو ترتیب وار لکھنے کی کوشش کی ہے جو ہمارے درمیان پورے یقین کے ساتھ مانی جاتی ہیں، یعنی یسوع مسیح کی زندگی اور کام۔

Luke 1:2

Verse: Even as they delivered them unto us which from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word

  • English Explanation: Luke underscores the ultimate reliability of his source material. He notes that these historical narratives are directly rooted in the testimonies of original eyewitnesses and dedicated ministers who walked with Jesus from the very inception of His public ministry.

  • Urdu Explanation: لوقا واضح کرتا ہے کہ یہ معلومات ان لوگوں سے حاصل ہوئی ہیں جو شروع سے خود عینی شاہد تھے اور جنہوں نے کلام کے خادم بن کر ان باتوں کو آگے پہنچایا۔ یہ انجیل کی تاریخی سچائی کو ثابت کرتا ہے۔

Luke 1:3

Verse: It seemed good to me also having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first to write unto thee in order most excellent Theophilus

  • English Explanation: As a careful researcher and physician, Luke explains his motivation. After thoroughly investigating everything from its historical origins, he decided to write an orderly, chronological account for an honorable individual named Theophilus, ensuring historical precision.

  • Urdu Explanation: ایک محقق اور طبیب ہونے کے ناطے، لوقا کہتا ہے کہ اس نے شروع سے سب باتوں کی احتیاط سے جانچ پڑتال کی، اور مناسب سمجھا کہ “معزز تھیوفلس” کے لیے ایک ترتیب وار تاریخ لکھے تاکہ کوئی شک باقی نہ رہے۔

Luke 1:4

Verse: That thou mightest know the certainty of those things wherein thou hast been instructed

  • English Explanation: This highlights the primary objective of Luke’s Gospel: to provide solid, unwavering intellectual and spiritual confidence. He wanted Theophilus (and all future readers) to know that the Christian teachings they had received were historically true and completely dependable.

  • Urdu Explanation: اس آیت کا مقصد یہ ہے کہ تھیوفلس (اور ہر پڑھنے والا) ان باتوں کی سچائی اور پختگی کو جان سکے جن کی اسے تعلیم دی گئی تھی۔ یہ ایمان کو مضبوط بنیاد فراہم کرنے کے لیے لکھا گیا۔

Luke 1:5

Verse: There was in the days of Herod the king of Judaea a certain priest named Zacharias of the course of Abia and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron and her name was Elisabeth

  • English Explanation: Luke anchors his narrative in real-world history during the reign of King Herod over Judea. He introduces Zacharias, a priest from the elite lineage of Abijah, and his wife Elisabeth, who was directly descended from Aaron, establishing a deeply reverent, priestly heritage.

  • Urdu Explanation: لوقا اس تاریخ کو یہودیہ کے بادشاہ ہیرودیس کے دور سے جوڑتا ہے۔ وہ زکریا نامی ایک کاہن کا تعارف کراتا ہے جو ابیاہ کے گھرانے سے تھا، اور اس کی بیوی الیشبع جو ہارون کی نسل سے تھی۔ یہ ان کے پاکیزہ اور کاہنانہ پس منظر کو ظاہر کرتا ہے۔

Luke 1:6

Verse: And they were both righteous before God walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless

  • English Explanation: This verse describes the spiritual integrity of Zacharias and Elisabeth. They were genuinely righteous in the sight of God, not just superficially. Their lives were defined by a sincere, blameless obedience to God’s laws and commandments.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہ آیت زکریا اور الیشبع کی روحانی حالت کو بیان کرتی ہے۔ وہ دونوں خدا کی نظر میں راستباز تھے اور خداوند کے تمام احکام اور قوانین پر بلا عیب چلتے تھے، یعنی ان کی زندگی پاکیزہ تھی۔

Luke 1:7

Verse: And they had no child because that Elisabeth was barren and they both were now well stricken in years

  • English Explanation: Despite their righteousness, they carried a deep personal sorrow: they were childless because Elisabeth was barren, and they had both reached an advanced age. In their culture, this was a heavy burden, setting the stage for a grand, miraculous intervention by God.

  • Urdu Explanation: ان کی راستبازی کے باوجود ان کی کوئی اولاد نہ تھی کیونکہ الیشبع بانجھ تھی اور وہ دونوں بوڑھے ہو چکے تھے۔ اس دور میں یہ ایک بڑی آزمائش تھی، لیکن یہی صورتحال خدا کے ایک عظیم معجزے کے لیے راستہ ہموار کرتی ہے۔
