1 Chronicles 16:37–43: The Organization of Worship

Verse 37

  • Verse: So he left there before the ark of the covenant of the LORD Asaph and his brethren to minister before the ark continually as every day’s work required

  • English Explanation: David established a permanent system of worship. Asaph and his fellow Levites were assigned to serve before the Ark in Jerusalem, ensuring that the spiritual duties were fulfilled daily without interruption.

  • Urdu Explanation: داؤد نے عہد کے صندوق کے سامنے آسف اور اس کے بھائیوں کو مقرر کیا تاکہ وہ وہاں مستقل طور پر خدمت انجام دیں جیسا کہ ہر دن کے کام کے لیے ضروری تھا۔

Verse 38

  • Verse: And Obed-edom with their brethren threescore and eight Obed-edom also the son of Jeduthun and Hosah to be porters

  • English Explanation: Obed-edom and 68 relatives were appointed as gatekeepers. This highlights the importance of order and security in the house of God.

  • Urdu Explanation: اور عبدادوم اور اس کے اڑسٹھ بھائیوں کو بھی مقرر کیا۔ جدوتون کا بیٹا عبدادوم اور حوسہ دربان (چوکیدار) کے طور پر مقرر ہوئے۔

Verse 39 & 40

  • Verse: And Zadok the priest and his brethren the priests before the tabernacle of the LORD in the high place that was at Gibeon To offer burnt offerings unto the LORD upon the altar of the burnt offering continually morning and evening and to do according to all that is written in the law of the LORD which he commanded Israel

  • English Explanation: While the Ark was in Jerusalem, the Tabernacle remained at Gibeon. Zadok the priest maintained the sacrificial laws there, offering morning and evening sacrifices as commanded in the Mosaic Law.

  • Urdu Explanation: صدوق کاہن اور اس کے بھائیوں کو جبعون کے اونچے مقام پر خداوند کے خیمے کے سامنے مقرر کیا گیا تاکہ وہ شریعت کے مطابق صبح و شام قربانیاں پیش کریں۔

Verse 41 & 42

  • Verse: And with them Heman and Jeduthun and the rest that were chosen who were expressed by name to give thanks to the LORD because his mercy endureth for ever And with them Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals for those that should make a sound and with musical instruments of God And the sons of Jeduthun were porters

  • English Explanation: David incorporated music into worship. Heman and Jeduthun led the musical ministry, using trumpets and cymbals to proclaim God’s eternal mercy.

  • Urdu Explanation: ہیمان اور جدوتون کو موسیقی اور شکر گزاری کے لیے چنا گیا تاکہ وہ خدا کی ابدی رحمت کا گیت گائیں اور سازوں کے ساتھ اس کی حمد کریں۔

Verse 43

  • Verse: And all the people departed every man to his house and David returned to bless his house

  • English Explanation: After the national celebration and the organization of the priesthood, the people returned home, and David went to minister to his own family.

  • Urdu Explanation: اس کے بعد سب لوگ اپنے اپنے گھر چلے گئے اور داؤد اپنے گھرانے کو برکت دینے کے لیے واپس لوٹا۔

1 Chronicles 17:1–15: The Davidic Covenant

Verse 1 & 2

  • Verse: Now it came to pass as David sat in his house that David said to Nathan the prophet Lo I dwell in an house of cedars but the ark of the covenant of the LORD remaineth under curtains Then Nathan said unto David Do all that is in thine heart for God is with thee

  • English Explanation: David felt a holy unease living in a palace of cedar while God’s Ark was in a tent. Nathan initially encouraged David’s desire to build a Temple.

  • Urdu Explanation: داؤد نے نبی ناتن سے کہا کہ میں تو دیودار کے محل میں رہتا ہوں لیکن خدا کا صندوق پردوں کے پیچھے (خیمے میں) ہے۔ ناتن نے کہا کہ جو تیرے دل میں ہے وہ کر کیونکہ خدا تیرے ساتھ ہے۔

Verse 3 & 4

  • Verse: And it came to pass the same night that the word of God came to Nathan saying Go and tell David my servant Thus saith the LORD Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in

  • English Explanation: God intervened that same night. Though David’s heart was right, God revealed that David was not the one to build the physical Temple.

  • Urdu Explanation: اسی رات خدا کا کلام ناتن پر نازل ہوا کہ جا کر داؤد سے کہہ کہ تو میرے لیے گھر (ہیکل) نہیں بنائے گا۔

Verse 5 & 6

  • Verse: For I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day but have gone from tent to tent and from one tabernacle to another Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel spake I a word to any of the judges of Israel whom I commanded to feed my people saying Why have ye not built me an house of cedars

  • English Explanation: God reminds David that He never demanded a permanent building. His presence was with His people in their journeying, moving from tent to tent.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا نے فرمایا کہ میں اسرائیل کو مصر سے نکالنے کے دن سے اب تک کسی گھر میں نہیں رہا بلکہ ایک خیمے سے دوسرے خیمے میں پھرتا رہا ہوں۔ کیا میں نے کبھی کسی سے پوچھا کہ تم نے میرے لیے گھر کیوں نہیں بنایا؟

Verse 7 & 8

  • Verse: Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David Thus saith the LORD of hosts I took thee from the sheepcote even from following the sheep that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel And I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast walked and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee and have made thee a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth

  • English Explanation: God recounts how He elevated David from a shepherd to a King. God emphasizes that He is the source of David’s greatness.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا نے یاد دلایا کہ میں نے تجھے بھیڑ بکریاں چرانے سے نکال کر اپنی قوم کا بادشاہ بنایا اور تیرے دشمنوں کو مٹا کر تجھے دنیا کے بڑے آدمیوں جیسا نام دیا۔

Verse 9 & 10

  • Verse: Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel and will plant them and they shall dwell in their place and shall be moved no more neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more as at the beginning And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel Moreover I will subdue all thine enemies Furthermore I tell thee that the LORD will build thee an house

  • English Explanation: This is a pivotal promise: God promises to establish Israel and, instead of David building a “house” (Temple) for God, God would build a “house” (dynasty) for David.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا نے وعدہ کیا کہ وہ اسرائیل کو ایک مستقل جگہ دے گا اور داؤد سے کہا کہ میں تیرے لیے ایک “گھر” (خاندان اور بادشاہت) قائم کروں گا۔

Verse 11 & 12

  • Verse: And it shall come to pass when thy days be expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers that I will raise up thy seed after thee which shall be of thy sons and I will establish his kingdom He shall build me an house and I will stablish his throne for ever

  • English Explanation: God promises that David’s descendant (Solomon) will build the Temple, but the promise also points forward to the eternal Kingdom of Jesus Christ.

  • Urdu Explanation: جب تو وفات پا جائے گا، میں تیرے بعد تیری نسل سے ایک کو کھڑا کروں گا اور وہ میرے لیے گھر بنائے گا اور میں اس کا تخت ہمیشہ کے لیے قائم رکھوں گا۔

Verse 13 & 14

  • Verse: I will be his father and he shall be my son and I will not take my mercy away from him as I took it from him that was before thee But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever and his throne shall be established for evermore

  • English Explanation: Unlike Saul, David’s line would not lose God’s favor. This “forever” throne is the foundation of the Messianic hope.

  • Urdu Explanation: میں اس کا باپ ہوں گا اور وہ میرا بیٹا ہوگا۔ میری رحمت اس سے کبھی جدا نہیں ہوگی اور اس کی بادشاہت ابدی ہوگی۔

Verse 15

  • Verse: According to all these words and according to all this vision so did Nathan speak unto David

  • English Explanation: Nathan faithfully delivered this entire revelation to David, shifting David’s focus from what he could do for God to what God would do for him.

  • Urdu Explanation: ناتن نے یہ تمام کلام اور رویا داؤد کو سنائی۔
