2 Samuel Chapter 24

Verse 18

  • Verse: And Gad came that day to David and said unto him Go up rear an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Araunah the Jebusite

  • English Explanation: Following the plague caused by the census, the Prophet Gad instructs David to perform a specific act of worship at a site owned by a Jebusite. This location is significant because it later became the site of Solomon’s Temple.

  • Urdu Explanation: مردم شماری کے گناہ کے بعد پیدا ہونے والی وبا کے دوران نبی جاد نے داؤد کو حکم دیا کہ وہ اروناہ یبوسی کے کھلیان میں خداوند کے لیے ایک قربان گاہ تعمیر کرے۔ یہ جگہ بعد میں ہیکلِ سلیمانی کی بنیاد بنی۔

Verse 19

  • Verse: And David according to the saying of Gad went up as the LORD commanded

  • English Explanation: David demonstrates immediate obedience to God’s word delivered through the prophet. His submission highlights his repentance and desire for reconciliation with God.

  • Urdu Explanation: داؤد نے نبی جاد کے ذریعے ملنے والے خدا کے حکم پر فوراً عمل کیا۔ اس کی فرمانبرداری اس کی توبہ اور خدا کے ساتھ تعلق کو بحال کرنے کی خواہش کو ظاہر کرتی ہے۔

Verse 20

  • Verse: And Araunah looked and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him and Araunah went out and bowed himself before the king on his face upon the ground

  • English Explanation: Araunah, despite being a Jebusite, shows deep respect and humility toward King David, acknowledging his royal authority through a physical gesture of prostration.

  • Urdu Explanation: اروناہ نے جب بادشاہ کو اپنی طرف آتے دیکھا تو اس نے نہایت عاجزی سے زمین پر گر کر سجدہ کیا اور بادشاہ کی شاہی حیثیت کا احترام کیا۔

Verse 21

  • Verse: And Araunah said Wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant And David said To buy the threshingfloor of thee to build an altar unto the LORD that the plague may be stayed from the people

  • English Explanation: David explains his mission: he seeks to purchase the land to offer a sacrifice that will stop the divine judgment (plague) affecting the nation.

  • Urdu Explanation: اروناہ نے آنے کا مقصد پوچھا تو داؤد نے واضح کیا کہ وہ یہ زمین خرید کر وہاں قربان گاہ بنانا چاہتا ہے تاکہ قوم پر آئی ہوئی وبا رک جائے۔

Verse 22

  • Verse: And Araunah said unto David Let my lord the king take and offer up what seemeth good unto him behold here be oxen for burnt sacrifice and threshing instruments and other instruments of the oxen for wood

  • English Explanation: Araunah generously offers everything for free—the land, the animals, and the wood—to facilitate the king’s urgent worship.

  • Urdu Explanation: اروناہ نے فراخدلی کا مظاہرہ کرتے ہوئے بیل اور لکڑی (آلات) سب کچھ بادشاہ کو مفت پیش کر دیا تاکہ وہ قربانی دے سکے۔

Verse 23

  • Verse: All these things did Araunah as a king give unto the king And Araunah said unto the king The LORD thy God accept thee

  • English Explanation: Araunah’s spirit was noble, offering his wealth to a king. He concludes with a blessing, praying that David’s sacrifice would be pleasing to God.

  • Urdu Explanation: اروناہ نے ایک بادشاہ کی طرح سخاوت دکھائی اور دعا دی کہ خداوند داؤد کی قربانی کو قبول فرمائے۔

Verse 24

  • Verse: And the king said unto Araunah Nay but I will surely buy it of thee at a price neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the LORD my God of that which doth cost me nothing So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver

  • English Explanation: David establishes a vital principle: sacrifice must involve personal cost. He refuses to offer God something that cost him nothing, purchasing the materials for fifty shekels.

  • Urdu Explanation: داؤد نے مفت لینے سے انکار کر دیا کیونکہ وہ ایسی قربانی نہیں دینا چاہتا تھا جس کی اسے کوئی قیمت نہ چکانی پڑے۔ اس نے پچاس مثقال چاندی کے بدلے وہ جگہ اور بیل خریدے۔

Verse 25

  • Verse: And David built there an altar unto the LORD and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings So the LORD was intreated for the land and the plague was stayed from Israel

  • English Explanation: Upon the completion of the sacrifice, God listens to the prayer for the land. The plague stops, demonstrating the restoration of the relationship between God and His people.

  • Urdu Explanation: داؤد نے قربان گاہ بنائی اور قربانی دی جس کے بعد خدا نے اس کی دعا سنی اور اسرائیل سے وبا ختم ہو گئی۔

Verse 1

  • Verse: Now king David was old and stricken in years and they covered him with clothes but he gat no heat

  • English Explanation: This verse transitions to David’s final days. His physical strength had failed to the point where he could no longer maintain body temperature despite heavy clothing.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہاں سے داؤد کے بڑھاپے کا ذکر شروع ہوتا ہے۔ وہ اتنا ضعیف ہو گیا تھا کہ کپڑوں کے باوجود اسے گرمی محسوس نہیں ہوتی تھی۔

Verse 2

  • Verse: Wherefore his servants said unto him Let there be sought for my lord the king a young virgin and let her stand before the king and let her cherish him and let her lie in thy bosom that my lord the king may get heat

  • English Explanation: His advisors suggest a common ancient medical practice: finding a young woman to serve as a nurse and provide body heat to the ailing king.

  • Urdu Explanation: خادموں نے مشورہ دیا کہ ایک جوان کنواری لڑکی تلاش کی جائے جو بادشاہ کی خدمت کرے اور انہیں حرارت فراہم کر سکے۔

Verse 3

  • Verse: So they sought for a fair damsel throughout all the coasts of Israel and found Abishag a Shunammite and brought her to the king

  • English Explanation: After a nationwide search, Abishag from Shunem is chosen for her beauty and health to care for David.

  • Urdu Explanation: پورے ملک میں تلاش کے بعد ابیشگ شونیمی کو منتخب کیا گیا اور اسے بادشاہ کی خدمت کے لیے لایا گیا۔

Verse 4

  • Verse: And the damsel was very fair and cherished the king and ministered to him but the king knew her not

  • English Explanation: While Abishag served the king faithfully, the text clarifies that David did not have intimate relations with her, emphasizing his physical decline.

  • Urdu Explanation: ابیشگ بہت خوبصورت تھی اور اس نے بادشاہ کی خوب خدمت کی، مگر داؤد اس کے قریب نہ گیا، جو اس کی کمزوری کو ظاہر کرتا ہے۔

Verse 5

  • Verse: Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself saying I will be king and he prepared him chariots and horsemen and fifty men to run before him

  • English Explanation: Seeing David’s weakness, his son Adonijah attempts to seize the throne by building a private militia, much like his brother Absalom did before him.

  • Urdu Explanation: داؤد کی کمزوری دیکھ کر اس کے بیٹے ادونیاہ نے خود کو بادشاہ بنانا چاہا اور اپنی طاقت کا مظاہرہ کرنے کے لیے رتھ اور سوار تیار کیے۔

Verse 6

  • Verse: And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying Why hast thou done so and he also was a very goodly man and his mother bare him after Absalom

  • English Explanation: Adonijah was physically attractive but spoiled. David had never disciplined him or questioned his actions, leading to his current arrogance.

  • Urdu Explanation: داؤد نے کبھی اسے ٹوکا نہیں تھا جس کی وجہ سے وہ مغرور ہو گیا۔ وہ دیکھنے میں بھی بہت خوبصورت تھا۔

Verse 7

  • Verse: And he conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the priest and they following Adonijah helped him

  • English Explanation: Adonijah gains political and religious support from Joab (the military leader) and Abiathar (the priest), forming a powerful faction.

  • Urdu Explanation: ادونیاہ نے یوآب (فوجی سردار) اور ابیاتر کاہن کو اپنے ساتھ ملا لیا تاکہ تخت پر قبضہ کر سکے۔

Verse 8

  • Verse: But Zadok the priest and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada and Nathan the prophet and Shimei and Rei and the mighty men which belonged to David were not with Adonijah

  • English Explanation: A core group of David’s most loyal advisors, including Nathan the prophet and the mighty men, refused to support Adonijah’s self-proclamation.

  • Urdu Explanation: لیکن صدوق کاہن، بنایاہ، ناتن نبی اور داؤد کے وفادار سورماؤں نے ادونیاہ کا ساتھ نہیں دیا۔

Verse 9

  • Verse: And Adonijah slew sheep and oxen and fat cattle by the stone of Zoheleth which is by Enrogel and called all his brethren the king’s sons and all the men of Judah the king’s servants

  • English Explanation: Adonijah holds a sacrificial feast to celebrate his unofficial coronation, inviting the royal family and Judean officials.

  • Urdu Explanation: ادونیاہ نے ایک بڑی ضیافت کا اہتمام کیا اور اپنی بادشاہت کا جشن منانے کے لیے شاہی خاندان اور عہدیداروں کو مدعو کیا۔

Verse 10

  • Verse: But Nathan the prophet and Benaiah and the mighty men and Solomon his brother he called not

  • English Explanation: Adonijah intentionally excludes Solomon and those loyal to David’s chosen successor, sensing their opposition to his coup.

  • Urdu Explanation: اس نے ناتن نبی، بنایاہ اور خاص طور پر اپنے بھائی سلیمان کو نہیں بلایا کیونکہ وہ جانتا تھا کہ یہ لوگ اس کی مخالفت کریں گے۔

Verse 11

  • Verse: Wherefore Nathan spake unto Bathsheba the mother of Solomon saying Hast thou not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith doth reign and David our lord knoweth it not

  • English Explanation: Nathan takes action by informing Bathsheba of the coup, noting that David is unaware of Adonijah’s actions in his frail state.

  • Urdu Explanation: ناتن نبی نے سلیمان کی ماں بت سبع کو خبردار کیا کہ ادونیاہ بادشاہ بن بیٹھا ہے اور داؤد کو اس کا علم ہی نہیں۔

Verse 12

  • Verse: Now therefore come let me I pray thee give thee counsel that thou mayest save thine own life and the life of thy son Solomon

  • English Explanation: Nathan warns Bathsheba that if Adonijah succeeds, she and Solomon will likely be executed. He offers a plan to save their lives and secure the throne.

  • Urdu Explanation: ناتن نے بت سبع کو مشورہ دیا تاکہ وہ اپنی اور اپنے بیٹے سلیمان کی جان بچا سکے۔ اس نے اسے خبردار کیا کہ ادونیاہ کی کامیابی ان کی موت ثابت ہو سکتی ہے۔
