2 Chronicles 23:7
Verse:
And the Levites shall compass the king round about every man with his weapons in his hand and whosoever else cometh into the house he shall be put to death but be ye with the king when he cometh in and when he goeth out
English Explanation: Jehoiada the priest issues strict security protocols to the Levites to protect the young rightful heir, Joash. The Levites are ordered to form a human shield around the king at all times, keeping their weapons drawn. To ensure total security against the usurper Queen Athaliah’s loyalists, any unauthorized person attempting to enter the inner courts of the Temple is to be executed immediately.
Urdu Explanation (اردو وضاحت): یہویااداہ کاہن نے لاویوں کو نوجوان بادشاہ یوآس کی حفاظت کے لیے سخت حفاظتی ہدایات دیں۔ لاویوں کو حکم دیا گیا کہ وہ ہر وقت اپنے ہتھیار ہاتھ میں لیے بادشاہ کے گرد گھیرا ڈالے رکھیں اور سیکیورٹی کی ضمانت دیں۔ ملکہ اتلیاہ کے وفاداروں کی طرف سے کسی بھی حملے کو روکنے کے لیے یہ قانون بنایا گیا کہ جو کوئی بھی بلا اجازت ہیکل کے اندر داخل ہونے کی کوشش کرے، اسے فوراً قتل کر دیا جائے۔

Verse:
So the Levites and all Judah did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest had commanded and took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath with them that were to go out on the sabbath for Jehoiada the priest dismissed not the courses
English Explanation: The leaders, Levites, and the people of Judah obey Jehoiada’s instructions perfectly. Usually, the Temple guards rotated shifts on the Sabbath. However, to maximize the military presence for this coup, Jehoiada does not dismiss the outgoing shift. Instead, he combines both the incoming and outgoing shifts to double the security force.
Urdu Explanation (اردو وضاحت): لاویوں اور یہوداہ کے تمام لوگوں نے یہویااداہ کاہن کے احکامات کی مکمل تعمیل کی۔ عام طور پر سبت (ہفتے) کے دن ہیکل کے پہرے داروں کی ڈیوٹی تبدیل ہوتی تھی، لیکن اس انقلاب کو کامیاب بنانے کے لیے یہویااداہ نے پرانی شفٹ کو فارغ نہیں کیا۔ اس نے دونوں شفٹوں (آنے والی اور جانے والی) کو اکٹھا کر دیا تاکہ فوج کی تعداد دوگنی ہو جائے اور حفاظت مضبوط ہو۔

Verse:
Moreover Jehoiada the priest delivered to the captains of hundreds spears and bucklers and shields that had been king David’s which were in the house of God
English Explanation: To arm the newly formed guard, Jehoiada opens the Temple armory and distributes the historic spears and shields that originally belonged to King David. These weapons were stored in the Temple as sacred trophies and symbols of God’s covenant with David’s lineage, carrying both physical utility and immense spiritual morale.
Urdu Explanation (اردو وضاحت): اس نئے فوجی دستے کو مسلح کرنے کے لیے، یہویااداہ کاہن نے ہیکل کے اسلحہ خانے سے بادشاہ داؤد کے تاریخی نیزے، ڈھالیں اور سپریں نکال کر سو سو کے سرداروں کے حوالے کیں۔ یہ ہتھیار خدا کے گھر میں بطورِ تبرک اور داؤد کے عہد کی علامت کے طور پر محفوظ تھے، جس سے فوجیوں کا حوصلہ بہت بلند ہوا۔
2 Chronicles 23:10
Verse:
And he set all the people every man having his weapon in his hand from the right side of the temple to the left side of the temple along by the altar and the temple by the king round about
English Explanation: Jehoiada strategically deploys the armed men across the entire perimeter of the Temple courtyard. They stretch from the south side to the north side, surrounding the sacrificial altar and forming a secure, impenetrable ring around the young king to safeguard his coronation.
Urdu Explanation (اردو وضاحت): یہویااداہ نے بڑی حکمتِ عملی سے مسلح لوگوں کو ہیکل کے پورے صحن میں تعینات کر دیا۔ وہ ہیکل کے دائیں کونے سے لے کر بائیں کونے تک، قربان گاہ کے پاس اور بادشاہ کے ارد گرد ایک ناقابلِ تسخیر دیوار کی طرح کھڑے ہو گئے تاکہ تاجپوشی کے دوران کوئی خلل نہ پڑ سکے۔
2 Chronicles 23:11
Verse:
Then they brought out the king’s son and put upon him the crown and gave him the testimony and made him king And Jehoiada and his sons anointed him and said God save the king
English Explanation: The climax of the revolt occurs as seven-year-old Joash is brought out publicly. Jehoiada places the royal crown on his head and hands him “the testimony” (the law of God), presenting him as a king submissive to God’s divine word. Jehoiada and his sons anoint him with holy oil, and the crowd bursts into joyful shouts of “Long live the king!”

Verse:
Now when Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king she came to the people into the house of the LORD
English Explanation: The wicked Queen Mother Athaliah, who had slaughtered the rest of the royal family to seize the throne, hears the massive uproar, cheering, and commotion coming from the Temple. Completely caught off guard, she rushes directly into the House of the Lord to investigate.
Urdu Explanation (اردو وضاحت): جب شریر ملکہ اتلیاہ نے (جس نے اقتدار حاصل کرنے کے لیے پورے شاہی خاندان کو قتل کر دیا تھا) لوگوں کے دوڑنے اور نئے بادشاہ کی تعریف کرنے کا شور سنا، تو وہ حیران رہ گئی۔ وہ صورتحال کا جائزہ لینے کے لیے فوراً خود ہیکلِ خداوند کی طرف بھاگی۔
2 Chronicles 23:13
Verse:
And she looked and behold the king stood at his pillar at the entering in and the princes and the trumpets by the king and all the people of the land rejoiced and sounded with trumpets also the singers with instruments of musick and such as taught to sing praise Then Athaliah rent her clothes and said Treason Treason
English Explanation: Athaliah sees the devastating reality: the young king standing by the royal pillar, surrounded by nobility, trumpet blowers, musicians, and shouting citizens. Realizing her absolute loss of power and the fulfillment of God’s promise to David’s line, she tears her clothes in despair and screams, “Treason! Treason!”
Urdu Explanation (اردو وضاحت): اتلیاہ نے دیکھا کہ نیا بادشاہ شاہی ستون کے پاس کھڑا ہے، اور اس کے گرد امرا، بگل بجانے والے، اور خوشی مناتے ہوئے لوگ موجود ہیں۔ موسیقی کار اور گلوکار حمد و ثنا کے گیت گا رہے ہیں۔ اپنی حکومت کا خاتمہ دیکھ کر اس نے مایوسی میں اپنے کپڑے پھاڑ ڈالے اور چلانے لگی، “بغاوت! بغاوت!”
2 Chronicles 23:14
Verse:
Then Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains of hundreds that were set over the host and said unto them Have her forth of the ranges and whoso followeth her let him be slain with the sword For the priest said Slay her not in the house of the LORD
English Explanation: Jehoiada orders the military captains to arrest Athaliah and remove her from the sacred Temple premises immediately. He mandates that anyone who steps forward to defend or follow her must be executed. Jehoiada emphasizes that the holy House of God must not be defiled by the shedding of her wicked blood.
Urdu Explanation (اردو وضاحت): یہویااداہ کاہن نے سو سو کے سرداروں کو حکم دیا کہ اتلیاہ کو ہیکل کی حدود سے باہر نکال دیا جائے اور جو کوئی بھی اس کی حمایت میں آگے بڑھے، اسے تلوار سے قتل کر دیا جائے۔ کاہن نے خاص تاکید کی کہ خدا کے مقدس گھر کو اس شریر عورت کے خون سے ناپاک نہ کیا جائے۔
2 Chronicles 23:15
Verse:
So they laid hands on her and when she was come to the entering of the horse gate by the king’s house they slew her there
English Explanation: The guards seize Athaliah and escort her away from the Temple. Once she reaches the entrance of the Horse Gate near the royal palace, outside the sacred ground, the soldiers execute her, effectively ending her tyrannical and illegal reign over Judah.
Urdu Explanation (اردو وضاحت): پہرے داروں نے اتلیاہ کو گرفتار کر لیا اور اسے ہیکل سے باہر لے گئے۔ جیسے ہی وہ شاہی محل کے قریب “گھوڑا پھاٹک” کے داخلے پر پہنچی، جو کہ ہیکل کی حدود سے باہر تھا، سپاہیوں نے اسے وہاں قتل کر دیا اور اس طرح یہوداہ پر اس کی ظالمانہ حکومت کا خاتمہ ہوا۔
2 Chronicles 23:16
Verse:
And Jehoiada made a covenant between him and between all the people and between the king that they should be the LORD’s people
English Explanation: With the tyrant removed, Jehoiada initiates a spiritual renewal. He facilitates a sacred three-way covenant between himself (representing religious authority), the people, and the new King Joash. They collectively vow to abandon idolatry and recommit themselves to being the dedicated, holy people of the Lord.

2 Chronicles 23:17
Verse:
Then all the people went to the house of Baal and brake it down and brake his altars and his images in pieces and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars
English Explanation: The spiritual covenant results in immediate, radical action. The energized citizens march to the pagan temple of Baal (introduced during Athaliah’s reign), completely demolishing the building, smashing the altars and idols to pieces, and executing Mattan, the high priest of Baal, right in front of his ruined altars.
Urdu Explanation (اردو وضاحت): اس روحانی عہد کا فوری اثر ہوا اور لوگوں نے جوش میں آ کر بعل دیوتا کے مندر پر دھوا بول دیا۔ انہوں نے اس عمارت کو مسمار کر دیا، اس کی قربان گاہوں اور بتوں کو ٹکڑے ٹکڑے کر دیا، اور بعل کے کاہن “متان” کو اسی کی قربان گاہوں کے سامنے قتل کر دیا۔
2 Chronicles 23:18
Verse:
Also Jehoiada appointed the offices of the house of the LORD by the hand of the priests the Levites whom David had distributed in the house of the LORD to offer the burnt offerings of the LORD as it is written in the law of Moses with rejoicing and with singing as it was ordained by David

He re-establishes the official duties of the Levitical priests within the Temple, resetting the sacrificial structure exactly as instructed in the Law of Moses and organizing the worship, singing, and joy according to the historical regulations laid out by King David.

2 Chronicles 23:19
Verse:
And he set the porters at the gates of the house of the LORD that none which was unclean in any thing should enter in
English Explanation: To maintain the newly restored holiness of the Temple, Jehoiada appoints gatekeepers (porters) at every entrance. Their sole responsibility is to screen everyone who approaches, ensuring that no individual who is ceremonially or spiritually unclean could enter and defile God’s dwelling place.
Urdu Explanation (اردو وضاحت): ہیکل کی بحال شدہ پاکیزگی کو برقرار رکھنے کے لیے، یہویااداہ نے ہیکل کے دروازوں پر دربان (پہرے دار) مقرر کیے۔ ان کی ذمہ داری یہ تھی کہ وہ ہر آنے والے پر نظر رکھیں تاکہ کوئی بھی ایسا شخص جو کسی بھی وجہ سے ناپاک ہو، ہیکل کے اندر داخل ہو کر اسے ناپاک نہ کر سکے۔
2 Chronicles 23:20
Verse:
And he took the captains of hundreds and the nobles and the governors of the people and all the people of the land and brought down the king from the house of the LORD and they came through the high gate into the king’s house and set the king upon the throne of the kingdom
English Explanation: The coronation process is formally completed. Jehoiada, accompanied by the military captains, nobles, governors, and the general public, escorts the young King Joash out of the Temple. They process through the High Gate straight into the royal palace, where Joash is officially seated upon the throne of Judah.

2 Chronicles 23:21
Verse:
And all the people of the land rejoiced and the city was quiet after that they had slain Athaliah with the sword
English Explanation: The chapter ends with a profound sense of relief and celebration across Judah. With the tyrannical Athaliah executed and the rightful Davidic king on the throne, the long period of unrest ends, and peace and quiet return to the city of Jerusalem.

2 Chronicles 24:1
Verse:
Joash was seven years old when he began to reign and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem His mother’s name also was Zibiah of Beer-sheba
English Explanation: Chapter 24 introduces the statistical details of Joash’s reign. He was remarkably young—only seven years old—when he ascended the throne. He went on to rule Judah for forty years from the capital city of Jerusalem. His mother is identified as Zibiah, hailing from the southern border town of Beer-sheba.

2 Chronicles 24:2
Verse:
And Joash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest
English Explanation: This verse highlights the critical spiritual mentorship behind Joash’s early success. For as long as Jehoiada the priest lived to guide, advise, and counsel him, Joash remained faithful to God and ruled righteously, showing how vital godly leadership is to a young ruler.

2 Chronicles 24:3
Verse:
And Jehoiada took for him two wives and he begat sons and daughters
English Explanation: As a father figure and prime minister, Jehoiada secures the future of the royal Davidic dynasty. Because Athaliah had systematically wiped out Joash’s relatives, the lineage was down to just Joash. Jehoiada selects two wives for the young king to ensure he fathers children and continues David’s line.

And it came to pass after this that Joash was minded to repair the house of the LORD
English Explanation: After establishing his kingdom and family, King Joash develops a deep personal desire to restore the Temple. The building had been neglected, broken into, and vandalized during the reign of the wicked Athaliah and her sons, making historical repairs a top priority for the king.
Urdu Explanation (اردو وضاحت): اپنی حکومت اور خاندان کو مستحکم کرنے کے بعد، بادشاہ یوآس کے دل میں یہ بات آئی کہ خداوند کے گھر (ہیکل) کی مرمت کی جائے۔ اتلیاہ اور اس کے بیٹوں کے دورِ حکومت میں ہیکل کو شدید نقصان پہنچایا گیا تھا اور اس کی بے حرمتی کی گئی تھی، اس لیے بادشاہ نے اسے بحال کرنے کا عزم کیا۔
2 Chronicles 24:5
Verse:
And he gathered together the priests and the Levites and said to them Go out unto the cities of Judah and gather of all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year and see that ye hasten the matter Howbeit the Levites hastened it not
English Explanation: Joash commands the priests and Levites to travel through Judah to collect the annual Temple taxes and free-will offerings required to fund the restoration project. He urges them to act quickly because the house of God was in ruins.
