Verse-by-Verse Commentary

2 Kings 19:21

Verse: This is the word that the LORD hath spoken concerning him The virgin the daughter of Zion hath despised thee and laughed thee to scorn the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee English Explanation: God responds to the arrogance of the Assyrian king. He portrays Jerusalem as a “virgin daughter” who is not afraid of the invader but mocks him because she is protected by God. Urdu Explanation: خدا اسور کے بادشاہ کے تکبر کا جواب دیتا ہے۔ یروشلم کو ایک “کنواری بیٹی” کے طور پر پیش کیا گیا ہے جو حملہ آور سے نہیں ڈرتی بلکہ اس کا مذاق اڑاتی ہے کیونکہ وہ خدا کی پناہ میں ہے۔

2 Kings 19:22

Verse: Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice and lifted up thine eyes on high even against the Holy One of Israel English Explanation: Isaiah clarifies that the Assyrian king didn’t just insult a nation; he insulted the Almighty God, the Holy One of Israel. Urdu Explanation: یسعیاہ نبی واضح کرتے ہیں کہ اسور کے بادشاہ نے صرف ایک قوم کی توہین نہیں کی بلکہ اس نے قادرِ مطلق خدا، اسرائیل کے قدوس کی توہین کی ہے۔

2 Kings 19:23

Verse: By the messengers thou hast reproached the Lord and hast said With the multitude of my chariots I am come up to the height of the mountains to the sides of Lebanon and will cut down the tall cedar trees thereof and the choice fir trees thereof and I will enter into the lodgings of his borders and into the forest of his Carmel English Explanation: The King of Assyria boasted about his military power, claiming he could conquer any terrain and destroy Lebanon’s glory. Urdu Explanation: اسور کے بادشاہ نے اپنی فوجی طاقت پر فخر کیا اور دعویٰ کیا کہ وہ کسی بھی علاقے کو فتح کر سکتا ہے اور لبنان کی شان و شوکت کو تباہ کر سکتا ہے۔

2 Kings 19:24

Verse: I have digged and drunk strange waters and with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the rivers of besieged places English Explanation: He claimed to be so powerful that he could provide water for his massive army in foreign lands and dry up rivers just by walking through them. Urdu Explanation: اس نے دعویٰ کیا کہ وہ اتنا طاقتور ہے کہ وہ غیر ممالک میں اپنی بڑی فوج کے لیے پانی کا انتظام کر سکتا ہے اور دریاؤں کو محض وہاں سے گزر کر خشک کر سکتا ہے۔

2 Kings 19:25

Verse: Hast thou not heard long ago how I have done it and of ancient times that I have formed it now have I brought it to pass that thou shouldest be to lay waste fenced cities into ruinous heaps English Explanation: God humbles the king by stating that the king’s victories were only possible because God ordained them long ago as an instrument of judgment. Urdu Explanation: خدا بادشاہ کو یہ بتا کر عاجز کرتا ہے کہ اس کی کامیابیاں صرف اس لیے ممکن ہوئیں کیونکہ خدا نے انہیں بہت پہلے انصاف کے آلے کے طور پر مقرر کیا تھا۔

2 Kings 19:26

Verse: Therefore their inhabitants were of small power they were dismayed and confounded they were as the grass of the field and as the green herb as the grass on the housetops and as corn blasted before it be grown up English Explanation: The conquered nations were weak not because Assyria was great, but because God had withdrawn His protection, making them as fragile as grass. Urdu Explanation: مفتوحہ قومیں اس لیے کمزور تھیں کہ خدا نے اپنی حفاظت واپس لے لی تھی، جس سے وہ گھاس کی طرح نازک ہو گئی تھیں۔

2 Kings 19:27

Verse: But I know thy abode and thy going out and thy coming in and thy rage against me English Explanation: God asserts His omniscience; He knows every move the Assyrian king makes and sees his inner rage. Urdu Explanation: خدا اپنی ہمہ دانی کا دعویٰ کرتا ہے؛ وہ اسور کے بادشاہ کی ہر حرکت کو جانتا ہے اور اس کے اندرونی غصے کو دیکھتا ہے۔

2 Kings 19:28

Verse: Because thy rage against me and thy tumult is come up into mine ears therefore I will put my hook in thy nose and my bridle in thy lips and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest English Explanation: Using the imagery of a captured animal, God promises to forcefully lead the Assyrians away from Jerusalem and back to their own land. Urdu Explanation: ایک پکڑے ہوئے جانور کی تشبیہ استعمال کرتے ہوئے، خدا وعدہ کرتا ہے کہ وہ اسوریوں کو زبردستی یروشلم سے دور ان کے اپنے ملک واپس لے جائے گا۔

2 Kings 19:29

Verse: And this shall be a sign unto thee Ye shall eat this year such things as grow of themselves and in the second year that which springeth of the same and in the third year sow ye and reap and plant vineyards and eat the fruits thereof English Explanation: God provides a sign of restoration: for two years they will live off what grows naturally, but in the third year, normal agriculture will return. Urdu Explanation: خدا بحالی کی ایک نشانی دیتا ہے کہ دو سال تک وہ قدرتی طور پر اگنے والی چیزوں پر گزارہ کریں گے، لیکن تیسرے سال معمول کی زراعت واپس آ جائے گی۔

2 Kings 19:30

Verse: And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall yet again take root downward and bear fruit upward English Explanation: The survivors of Judah will flourish again, becoming stable (root downward) and prosperous (fruit upward). Urdu Explanation: یہوداہ کے بچ جانے والے لوگ دوبارہ پھلیں پھولیں گے، وہ مستحکم (جڑیں نیچے) اور خوشحال (پھل اوپر) ہو جائیں گے۔

2 Kings 19:31

Verse: For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant and they that escape out of mount Zion the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this English Explanation: Salvation will come from Jerusalem, guaranteed not by human effort, but by the intense passion (zeal) of God. Urdu Explanation: نجات یروشلم سے آئے گی، جس کی ضمانت انسانی کوششوں سے نہیں بلکہ خدا کی غیرت سے حاصل ہوگی۔

2 Kings 19:32

Verse: Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria He shall not come into this city nor shoot an arrow there nor come before it with shield nor cast a bank against it English Explanation: God gives a specific promise: the Assyrian army will not even begin an assault on Jerusalem. Urdu Explanation: خدا ایک خاص وعدہ کرتا ہے کہ اسوری فوج یروشلم پر حملہ شروع تک نہیں کر سکے گی۔

2 Kings 19:33

Verse: By the way that he came by the same shall he return and shall not come into this city saith the LORD English Explanation: Sennacherib will return home defeated, using the same path he took to arrive, without ever entering the city. Urdu Explanation: سنہیریب اسی راستے سے واپس جائے گا جس سے وہ آیا تھا، وہ کبھی شہر میں داخل نہیں ہو سکے گا۔

2 Kings 19:34

Verse: For I will defend this city to save it for mine own sake and for my servant David’s sake English Explanation: God protects Jerusalem to honor His own name and the covenant He made with King David. Urdu Explanation: خدا اپنے نام کی خاطر اور شاہ داؤد کے ساتھ کیے گئے عہد کو پورا کرنے کے لیے یروشلم کی حفاظت کرتا ہے۔

2 Kings 19:35

Verse: And it came to pass that night that the angel of the LORD went out and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand and when they arose early in the morning behold they were all dead corpses English Explanation: A single angel strikes the Assyrian camp, killing 185,000 soldiers in one night, ending the siege instantly. Urdu Explanation: ایک ہی فرشتے نے اسوریوں کے لشکر پر حملہ کیا اور ایک ہی رات میں ایک لاکھ پچاسی ہزار فوجیوں کو ہلاک کر دیا، جس سے محاصرہ فوری طور پر ختم ہو گیا۔

2 Kings 19:36

Verse: So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed and went and returned and dwelt at Nineveh English Explanation: The humbled King Sennacherib retreats to his capital, Nineveh. Urdu Explanation: عاجز ہو کر بادشاہ سنہیریب اپنے دارالحکومت نینوہ واپس چلا گیا۔

2 Kings 19:37

Verse: And it came to pass as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword and they escaped into the land of Armenia And Esar-haddon his son reigned in his stead English Explanation: Sennacherib is murdered by his own sons while worshipping his false god, proving his god could not protect him. Urdu Explanation: سنہیریب کو اس کے اپنے بیٹوں نے اس وقت قتل کر دیا جب وہ اپنے جھوٹے خدا کی عبادت کر رہا تھا، جس سے ثابت ہوا کہ اس کا خدا اسے نہیں بچا سکا۔


Chapter 20

2 Kings 20:1

Verse: In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him and said unto him Thus saith the LORD Set thine house in order for thou shalt die and not live English Explanation: Hezekiah falls terminally ill. Isaiah delivers a somber message from God to prepare for death. Urdu Explanation: حزقیاہ جان لیوا بیمار ہو گیا۔ یسعیاہ نبی نے خدا کی طرف سے موت کی تیاری کا پیغام پہنچایا۔

2 Kings 20:2

Verse: Then he turned his face to the wall and prayed unto the LORD saying English Explanation: Hezekiah seeks privacy and immediately turns to God in prayer, showing his total dependence on the Lord. Urdu Explanation: حزقیاہ نے تنہائی اختیار کی اور فوراً دعا میں خدا کی طرف رجوع کیا، جو اس کے خدا پر مکمل بھروسے کو ظاہر کرتا ہے۔

2 Kings 20:3

Verse: I beseech thee O LORD remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart and have done that which is good in thy sight And Hezekiah wept sore English Explanation: Hezekiah appeals to God based on his faithful service and expresses his deep sorrow through weeping. Urdu Explanation: حزقیاہ نے اپنی وفادارانہ خدمت کی بنیاد پر خدا سے التجا کی اور روتے ہوئے اپنے گہرے دکھ کا اظہار کیا۔

2 Kings 20:4

Verse: And it came to pass afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court that the word of the LORD came to him saying English Explanation: God responds quickly. Before Isaiah even leaves the palace grounds, God gives him a new message. Urdu Explanation: خدا نے فوری جواب دیا۔ اس سے پہلے کہ یسعیاہ محل سے باہر نکلتا، خدا نے اسے ایک نیا پیغام دیا۔

2 Kings 20:5

Verse: Turn again and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people Thus saith the LORD the God of David thy father I have heard thy prayer I have seen thy tears behold I will heal thee on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD English Explanation: God grants healing. He acknowledges Hezekiah’s tears and promises he will be well enough to worship in the Temple in three days. Urdu Explanation: خدا نے شفا عطا کی۔ اس نے حزقیاہ کے آنسوؤں کو قبول کیا اور وعدہ کیا کہ وہ تین دن میں ہیکل میں عبادت کرنے کے قابل ہو جائے گا۔

2 Kings 20:6

Verse: And I will add unto thy days fifteen years and I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria and I will defend this city for mine own sake and for my servant David’s sake English Explanation: God extends Hezekiah’s life by 15 years and reaffirms His promise to protect Jerusalem from Assyria. Urdu Explanation: خدا نے حزقیاہ کی زندگی میں 15 سال کا اضافہ کر دیا اور یروشلم کو اسور سے بچانے کے اپنے وعدے کی دوبارہ تصدیق کی۔
