2 Samuel 13:27

Verse: But Absalom pressed him that he let Amnon and all the king’s sons go with him.

  • English: Absalom was persistent in his invitation. David was initially hesitant, but Absalom’s pressure eventually convinced the king to allow his sons, including the heir Amnon, to attend the feast.

  • Urdu: ابشلوم نے بادشاہ پر زور دیا کہ وہ امنون اور بادشاہ کے تمام بیٹوں کو اس کے ساتھ جانے کی اجازت دے۔ ابشلوم کی ضد کے سامنے داؤد بادشاہ نے آخرکار اجازت دے دی۔

2 Samuel 13:28

Verse: Now Absalom had commanded his servants saying Mark ye now when Amnon’s heart is merry with wine and when I say unto you Smite Amnon then kill him fear not have not I commanded you be courageous and be valiant.

  • English: Absalom planned a cold-blooded assassination. He waited until Amnon was vulnerable and intoxicated, then ordered his servants to strike, taking full responsibility for the murder.

  • Urdu: ابشلوم نے اپنے خادموں کو حکم دیا کہ جب امنون مے کے نشے میں مست ہو، تو میرے اشارے پر اسے قتل کر دینا۔ اس نے انہیں حوصلہ دیا کہ ڈرو مت کیونکہ یہ میرا حکم ہے۔

2 Samuel 13:29

Verse: And the servants of Absalom did unto Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king’s sons arose and every man gat him up upon his mule and fled.

  • English: The execution was carried out. In the ensuing chaos, the rest of David’s sons feared for their lives, believing they might be next, and fled on their mules.

  • Urdu: خادموں نے ویسا ہی کیا جیسا ابشلوم نے کہا تھا۔ امنون کے قتل کے بعد، بادشاہ کے باقی بیٹے خوف کے مارے اپنے خچروں پر سوار ہو کر وہاں سے بھاگ نکلے۔

2 Samuel 13:30

Verse: And it came to pass while they were in the way that tidings came to David saying Absalom hath slain all the king’s sons and there is not one of them left.

  • English: News travels fast but is often exaggerated. A rumor reached David stating that Absalom had massacred all of his sons, causing the king immense grief.

  • Urdu: ابھی شہزادے راستے میں ہی تھے کہ داؤد کو یہ خبر ملی کہ ابشلوم نے بادشاہ کے تمام بیٹوں کو قتل کر دیا ہے اور ایک بھی نہیں بچا۔

2 Samuel 13:31

Verse: Then the king arose and tare his garments and lay on the earth and all his servants stood by with their clothes rent.

  • English: David’s reaction was one of total devastation. Tearing clothes and lying on the ground were traditional signs of deep mourning and despair.

  • Urdu: یہ سن کر بادشاہ نے اپنے کپڑے پھاڑ ڈالے اور زمین پر لیٹ گیا، اور اس کے تمام خادم بھی غم کی حالت میں اپنے کپڑے پھاڑ کر کھڑے ہو گئے۔

2 Samuel 13:32

Verse: And Jonadab the son of Shimeah David’s brother answered and said Let not my lord suppose that they have slain all the young men the king’s sons for Amnon only is dead for by the appointment of Absalom this hath been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.

  • English: Jonadab, the same man who helped Amnon sin, now clarifies the situation. He reveals that only Amnon was targeted as revenge for the rape of Tamar.

  • Urdu: یونادب نے بادشاہ کو تسلی دی کہ تمام شہزادے قتل نہیں ہوئے، بلکہ صرف امنون مرا ہے۔ اس نے بتایا کہ ابشلوم نے اسی دن سے یہ منصوبہ بنا رکھا تھا جب امنون نے تمر کی بے حرمتی کی تھی۔

2 Samuel 13:33

Verse: Now therefore let not my lord the king take the thing to his heart to think that all the king’s sons are dead for Amnon only is dead.

  • English: Jonadab urges David not to believe the worst-case scenario; the loss is tragic, but it is limited to Amnon.

  • Urdu: اس لیے بادشاہ اس بات کو دل پر نہ لے کہ تمام بیٹے مر گئے ہیں، کیونکہ صرف امنون مارا گیا ہے۔

2 Samuel 13:34

Verse: But Absalom fled. And the young man that kept the watch lifted up his eyes and looked and behold there came much people by the way of the hill side behind him.

  • English: While Absalom escaped to avoid punishment, a watchman spotted the returning princes coming down the hillside.

  • Urdu: ابشلوم بھاگ گیا، لیکن پہرے دار نے دیکھا کہ پہاڑ کی سمت سے بہت سے لوگ (شہزادے) واپس آ رہے ہیں۔

2 Samuel 13:35

Verse: And Jonadab said unto the king Behold the king’s sons come as thy servant said so it is.

  • English: Jonadab points out the returning sons to David, confirming that his assessment of the situation was correct.

  • Urdu: یونادب نے بادشاہ سے کہا، “دیکھو، بادشاہ کے بیٹے آ رہے ہیں، جیسا کہ میں نے کہا تھا۔”

2 Samuel 13:36

Verse: And it came to pass as soon as he had made an end of speaking that behold the king’s sons came and lifted up their voice and wept and the king also and all his servants wept very sore.

  • English: The reunion was bitter. The princes returned alive, but the weight of the murder and the fractured family led to a communal outpouring of grief.

  • Urdu: جب شہزادے پہنچے تو وہ زار و قطار رونے لگے، اور بادشاہ اور اس کے خادموں نے بھی بہت زیادہ ماتم کیا۔

Verse: But Absalom fled and went to Talmai the son of Ammihud king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son every day.

  • English: Absalom took refuge with his maternal grandfather in Geshur. David was left in a state of double mourning—one son dead, the other an exiled murderer.

  • Urdu: ابشلوم بھاگ کر جسور کے بادشاہ تلمی کے پاس چلا گیا۔ داؤد اپنے بیٹے (امنون) کے لیے روزانہ ماتم کرتا رہا۔

Verse: So Absalom fled and went to Geshur and was there three years.

  • English: Absalom remained in exile for three years, a period of prolonged separation between father and son.

  • Urdu: ابشلوم جسور میں تین سال تک مقیم رہا۔

2 Samuel 13:39

Verse: And the soul of king David longed to go forth unto Absalom for he was comforted concerning Amnon seeing he was dead.

  • English: As time passed, David’s grief for Amnon faded, replaced by a deep yearning to see Absalom, despite his crime.

  • Urdu: وقت گزرنے کے ساتھ داؤد کا غم کم ہوا اور اس کا دل ابشلوم سے ملنے کے لیے تڑپنے لگا۔

Chapter 14

2 Samuel 14:1

Verse: Now Joab the son of Zeruiah perceived that the king’s heart was toward Absalom.

  • English: Joab, the commander of the army, noticed David’s hidden desire to reconcile with Absalom and decided to act.

  • Urdu: یوآب نے محسوس کیا کہ بادشاہ کا دل ابشلوم کی طرف مائل ہے اور وہ اسے واپس بلانا چاہتا ہے۔

2 Samuel 14:2

Verse: And Joab sent to Tekoah and fetched thence a wise woman and said unto her I pray thee feign thyself to be a mourner and put on now mourning apparel and anoint not thyself with oil but be as a woman that had a long time mourned for the dead.

  • English: Joab creates a theatrical plan. He recruits a wise woman to pretend she is in deep, long-term mourning to gain the king’s sympathy.

  • Urdu: یوآب نے تقوع سے ایک دانشمند عورت کو بلایا اور اسے نصیحت کی کہ وہ سوگوار بن کر بادشاہ کے پاس جائے تاکہ اس کی ہمدردی حاصل کر سکے۔

2 Samuel 14:3

Verse: And come to the king and speak on this manner unto him. So Joab put the words in her mouth.

  • English: Joab acted as the director, coaching the woman on exactly what to say to sway the king’s judgment.

  • Urdu: یوآب نے اسے سکھایا کہ بادشاہ سے کیا کہنا ہے اور اس کے منہ میں الفاظ ڈالے۔

2 Samuel 14:4

Verse: And when the woman of Tekoah spake to the king she fell on her face to the ground and did obeisance and said Help O king.

  • English: The woman approached David with great humility, performing the traditional act of prostration to ask for royal intervention.

  • Urdu: تقوع کی عورت نے بادشاہ کے سامنے آ کر زمین پر سر جھکایا اور فریاد کی، “اے بادشاہ، میری مدد کر!”

2 Samuel 14:5

Verse: And the king said unto her What aileth thee? And she answered I am indeed a widow woman and mine husband is dead.

  • English: David asks for her story. She presents herself as a vulnerable widow, a class of people the king was sworn to protect.

  • Urdu: بادشاہ نے اس سے پوچھا کہ تجھے کیا تکلیف ہے؟ اس نے جواب دیا کہ میں ایک بیوہ ہوں اور میرا شوہر مر چکا ہے۔

2 Samuel 14:6

Verse: And thy handmaid had two sons and they two strove together in the field and there was none to part them but the one smote the other and slew him.

  • English: She tells a story that mirrors David’s own family: two brothers fought, and one killed the other in a moment of passion.

  • Urdu: اس نے بتایا کہ میرے دو بیٹے تھے جو آپس میں لڑ پڑے اور ایک نے دوسرے کو قتل کر دیا۔

2 Samuel 14:7

Verse: And behold the whole family is risen against thine handmaid and they said Deliver him that smote his brother that we may kill him for the life of his brother whom he slew and we will destroy the heir also and so they shall quench my coal which is left and shall not leave to my husband neither name nor remainder upon the earth.

  • English: She explains that her relatives want to execute the surviving son. If they do, she will lose her last “coal” (her last light/hope) and her husband’s lineage will end.

  • Urdu: اس نے کہا کہ اب سارا خاندان میرے پیچھے پڑا ہے کہ قاتل بیٹے کو حوالے کرو تاکہ اسے مار ڈالیں۔ اگر ایسا ہوا تو میرا آخری سہارا بھی ختم ہو جائے گا اور میرے شوہر کا نام و نشان مٹ جائے گا۔

2 Samuel 14:8

Verse: And the king said unto the woman Go to thine house and I will give charge concerning thee.

  • English: Moved by her plight, David promises to issue an order to protect her and her son.

  • Urdu: بادشاہ نے عورت سے کہا، “تو اپنے گھر جا، میں تیرے بارے میں حکم جاری کروں گا۔”

2 Samuel 14:9

Verse: And the woman of Tekoah said unto the king My lord O king the iniquity be on me and on my father’s house and the king and his throne be guiltless.

  • English: She pushes for a definitive ruling, offering to take any perceived guilt of bypassing the law of blood-revenge upon herself.

  • Urdu: عورت نے کہا کہ اگر اس فیصلے میں کوئی گناہ ہے تو وہ مجھ پر اور میرے باپ کے گھر پر ہو، لیکن بادشاہ کا تخت بے گناہ رہے۔

2 Samuel 14:10

Verse: And the king said Whosoever saith ought unto thee bring him to me and he shall not touch thee any more.

  • English: David offers her full royal protection, promising to handle anyone who opposes his verdict.

  • Urdu: بادشاہ نے کہا کہ جو بھی تجھے کچھ کہے اسے میرے پاس لانا، پھر کوئی تجھے ہاتھ نہیں لگائے گا۔

2 Samuel 14:11

Verse: Then said she I pray thee let the king remember the LORD thy God that thou wouldest not suffer the revengers of blood to destroy any more lest they destroy my son. And he said As the LORD liveth there shall not one hair of thy son fall to the earth.

  • English: She asks for a religious oath. David swears by the Lord that her son will be safe, unknowingly setting a precedent that he must later apply to his own son, Absalom.

  • Urdu: اس نے درخواست کی کہ بادشاہ خداوند کا نام لے کر قسم کھائے تاکہ خون کا بدلہ لینے والے میرے بیٹے کو ہلاک نہ کریں۔ بادشاہ نے قسم کھائی کہ تیرے بیٹے کا ایک بال بھی بیکا نہیں ہوگا۔
