Verse 2 Samuel 4:10

Verse: When one told me saying Behold Saul is dead thinking to have brought good tidings I took hold of him and slew him in Ziklag who thought that I would have given him a reward for his tidings

  • English Explanation: David reminds the murderers of Ish-bosheth about the Amalekite who claimed to kill Saul. David executed him because he thought he could profit from the death of God’s anointed.

  • Urdu Explanation: داؤد نے انہیں یاد دلایا کہ جب ایک شخص نے صقلاج میں آکر یہ سمجھ کر خوشخبری دی کہ ساؤل مر گیا ہے تو میں نے اسے قتل کر دیا۔ وہ سمجھ رہا تھا کہ اسے انعام ملے گا مگر اسے موت ملی۔

Verse 2 Samuel 4:11

Verse: How much more when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house upon his bed shall I not therefore now require his blood of your hand and take you away from the earth

  • English Explanation: David argues that if he punished the man who claimed to kill his enemy Saul, he must surely punish those who murdered the innocent Ish-bosheth in his sleep.

  • Urdu Explanation: داؤد نے کہا کہ جب بدکار لوگوں نے ایک بے گناہ شخص (اشبوست) کو اس کے اپنے گھر میں بستر پر قتل کر دیا تو کیا مجھے تم سے اس کے خون کا بدلہ نہیں لینا چاہیے؟

Verse 2 Samuel 4:12

Verse: And David commanded his young men and they slew them and cut off their hands and their feet and hanged them up over the pool in Hebron But they took the head of Ish-bosheth and buried it in the sepulchre of Abner in Hebron

  • English Explanation: David executes the assassins. Cutting off hands and feet served as a public warning against treason. Ish-bosheth’s head was buried with respect in Abner’s tomb.

  • Urdu Explanation: داؤد نے اپنے جوانوں کو حکم دیا اور انہوں نے قاتلوں کو قتل کر کے ان کے ہاتھ پاؤں کاٹ ڈالے اور انہیں عبرت کے لیے لٹکا دیا۔ اشبوست کے سر کو احترام کے ساتھ ابنیر کی قبر میں دفن کیا گیا۔


Verse 2 Samuel 5:1

Verse: Then came all the tribes of Israel to David unto Hebron and spake saying Behold we are thy bone and thy flesh

  • English Explanation: After the death of Saul’s son, all tribes of Israel realize David is their true leader. They acknowledge their common ancestry and kinship.

  • Urdu Explanation: پھر اسرائیل کے تمام قبیلے حبرون میں داؤد کے پاس آئے اور کہا کہ دیکھو ہم تیری ہی ہڈی اور تیرا ہی گوشت ہیں یعنی ہم ایک ہی قوم ہیں۔

Verse 2 Samuel 5:2

Verse: Also in time past when Saul was king over us thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel and the LORD said to thee Thou shalt feed my people Israel and thou shalt be a captain over Israel

  • English Explanation: The leaders recognize David’s past military leadership and the divine promise that he would be the “shepherd” (leader) of Israel.

  • Urdu Explanation: انہوں نے مانا کہ جب ساؤل بادشاہ تھا تب بھی داؤد ہی جنگوں میں ہماری قیادت کرتا تھا اور خدا نے داؤد سے وعدہ کیا تھا کہ وہ اسرائیل کا چرواہا اور حاکم ہوگا۔

Verse 2 Samuel 5:3

Verse: So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron and king David made a league with them in Hebron before the LORD and they anointed David king over Israel

  • English Explanation: David enters a formal covenant (league) with the elders. This marks the beginning of his reign over the united twelve tribes.

  • Urdu Explanation: اسرائیل کے تمام بزرگ حبرون آئے اور داؤد نے خدا کے حضور ان سے عہد و پیمان کیا اور انہوں نے داؤد کو پورے اسرائیل کا بادشاہ ہونے کے لیے مسح کیا۔

Verse 2 Samuel 5:4–5

Verse: David was thirty years old when he began to reign and he reigned forty years In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years over all Israel and Judah

  • English Explanation: A summary of David’s reign: 7.5 years in Hebron (Judah only) and 33 years in Jerusalem (All Israel).

  • Urdu Explanation: داؤد تیس سال کا تھا جب وہ بادشاہ بنا۔ اس نے کل چالیس سال حکومت کی؛ ساڑھے سات سال حبرون میں اور تینتیس سال یروشلم میں۔

Verse 2 Samuel 5:6–7

Verse: And the king and his men went to Jerusalem unto the Jebusites the inhabitants of the land which spake unto David saying Except thou take away the blind and the lame thou shalt not come in hither thinking David cannot come in hither Nevertheless David took the strong hold of Zion the same is the city of David

  • English Explanation: The Jebusites mocked David, thinking their fortress was impenetrable. David proved them wrong by capturing the stronghold of Zion.

  • Urdu Explanation: داؤد نے یروشلم پر حملہ کیا۔ یبوسیوں نے غرور میں کہا کہ اندھے اور لنگڑے بھی تمہیں روک لیں گے لیکن داؤد نے صیون کا قلعہ فتح کر لیا جو “داؤد کا شہر” کہلایا۔

Verse 2 Samuel 5:8–10

Verse: …So David dwelt in the fort and called it the city of David And David built round about from Millo and inward And David went on and grew great and the LORD God of hosts was with him

  • English Explanation: David fortified the city. His greatness grew not by his own power, but because God was with him.

  • Urdu Explanation: داؤد اس قلعے میں رہنے لگا اور اس نے شہر کی تعمیر کی۔ داؤد کی طاقت بڑھتی گئی کیونکہ رب الافواج اس کے ساتھ تھا۔

Verse 2 Samuel 5:11–12

Verse: And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David and cedar trees and carpenters and masons and they built David an house And David perceived that the LORD had established him king over Israel

  • English Explanation: King Hiram of Tyre recognizes David’s authority by sending materials and craftsmen to build a palace. David realizes his success is God’s doing for the sake of the people.

  • Urdu Explanation: صور کے بادشاہ حیرام نے داؤد کے لیے دیودار کی لکڑی اور کاریگر بھیجے جنہوں نے داؤد کا محل بنایا۔ داؤد سمجھ گیا کہ خدا نے اسے اسرائیل کا بادشاہ مقرر کر دیا ہے۔

Verse 2 Samuel 5:13–16

Verse: And David took him more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem… And these be the names of those that were born unto him in Jerusalem Shammua and Shobab and Nathan and Solomon Ibhar also and Elishua and Nepheg and Japhia And Elishama and Eliada and Eliphalet

Verse 2 Samuel 5:17–19

Verse: But when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel all the Philistines came up to seek David… And David enquired of the LORD saying Shall I go up to the Philistines wilt thou deliver them into mine hand And the LORD said unto David Go up for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into thine hand

  • English Explanation: The Philistines attack to stop the newly unified Israel. David does not rely on his own strength but asks God for guidance before attacking.

  • Urdu Explanation: فلسطینیوں نے جب سنا کہ داؤد بادشاہ بن گیا ہے تو انہوں نے حملہ کر دیا۔ داؤد نے خدا سے پوچھا کہ کیا میں ان پر حملہ کروں؟ خدا نے کہا “ہاں میں انہیں تیرے قبضے میں کر دوں گا”۔

Verse 2 Samuel 5:20–22

Verse: And David came to Baal-perazim and David smote them there and said The LORD hath broken forth upon mine enemies before me as the breach of waters… And the Philistines came up yet again and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim

  • English Explanation: David defeats the Philistines at Baal-perazim (Lord of Breaking Through). The Philistines fled, leaving their idols behind, but soon returned for a second battle.

  • Urdu Explanation: داؤد نے بعل پریظیم میں فلسطینیوں کو شکست دی اور کہا کہ خدا میرے دشمنوں پر پانی کے ریلے کی طرح ٹوٹ پڑا ہے۔ فلسطینی اپنے بت چھوڑ کر بھاگ گئے مگر وہ دوبارہ وادیِ رفائیم میں جمع ہوئے۔
