Da 6 5

Then said these men We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.

Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king and said thus unto him King Darius live for ever.

  • English Explanation: The conspirators approach King Darius as a unified group. They begin with standard, flattering royal greetings to stroke his ego and hide their true, malicious intentions.

All the presidents of the kingdom the governors and the princes the counsellers and the captains have consulted together to establish a royal statute and to make a firm decree that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days save of thee O king he shall be cast into the den of lions.

  • English Explanation: They falsely claim that all officials (excluding Daniel, of course) agree on a new law: for 30 days, anyone praying to any god or person other than the king will be thrown into a pit of lions. This was designed to test loyalty and appeal to the king’s pride.

Now O king establish the decree and sign the writing that it be not changed according to the law of the Medes and Persians which altereth not.

  • English Explanation: They urge the king to officially sign the document. Under the laws of the Medes and Persians, once a king signed a decree, it became irrevocable—even the king himself could not cancel it.

  • Urdu Explanation (اردو تفسیر): انہوں نے بادشاہ پر زور دیا کہ وہ اس فرمان پر دستخط کر دے۔ مادیوں اور فارسیوں کے قانون کے مطابق، جب بادشاہ کسی فرمان پر دستخط کر دیتا تھا تو اسے منسوخ نہیں کیا جا سکتا تھا، یہاں تک کہ خود بادشاہ بھی اسے بدل نہیں سکتا تھا۔

Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree.

  • English Explanation: Blinded by pride and unaware of the trap set for his favorite administrator, King Darius signs the decree into law.

  • Urdu Explanation (اردو تفسیر): بادشاہ دارا اپنی تعریف اور غرور میں اندھا ہو کر، اپنے سب سے پسندیدہ اور قابل منتظم (دانیال) کے خلاف بچھے جال کو سمجھے بغیر، اس فرمان پر دستخط کر دیتا ہے۔

Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed he went into his house and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem he kneeled upon his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God as he did aforetime.

  • English Explanation: Despite knowing the law is active and the penalty is death, Daniel refuses to hide his faith. He goes home, leaves his windows open toward Jerusalem, and continues his routine of praying three times a day, prioritizing God over government edicts.

Then these men assembled and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.

  • English Explanation: The conspirators spy on Daniel. They catch him exactly as they planned—praying and asking God for help, openly violating the new royal decree.

  • Urdu Explanation (اردو تفسیر): سازشی لوگ اکٹھے ہو کر دانیال کے گھر پہنچے اور اس کی جاسوسی کی۔ انہوں نے دانیال کو عین اپنے منصوبے کے مطابق خدا کے حضور دعا اور مناجات کرتے ہوئے پکڑ لیا۔

Then they came near and spake before the king concerning the king’s decree Hast thou not signed a decree that every man that shall ask a petition of any God or man within thirty days save of thee O king shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said The thing is true according to the law of the Medes and Persians which altereth not.

  • English Explanation: The men go back to the king to confirm the law is strictly in place. They trap the king into verbally acknowledging that the decree is permanent and unbreakable before they reveal their target.

Da 6 13

Then answered they and said before the king That Daniel which is of the children of the captivity of Judah regardeth not thee O king nor the decree that thou hast signed but maketh his petition three times a day.

  • English Explanation: Having cornered the king, they finally spring the trap. They accuse Daniel—pointing out his status as a foreign Jewish exile to make him sound rebellious—of blatantly ignoring the king and his unchangeable law.

  • Urdu Explanation (اردو تفسیر): اب انہوں نے اپنا اصل مقصد ظاہر کیا۔ انہوں نے بادشاہ سے کہا کہ دانیال، جو یہوداہ کا ایک جلاوطن قیدی ہے، نہ تیری پرواہ کرتا ہے اور نہ تیرے فرمان کی، بلکہ وہ دن میں تین بار اپنے خدا سے دعا کرتا ہے۔

Then the king when he heard these words was sore displeased with himself and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.

  • English Explanation: Darius realizes he has been played. He isn’t angry at Daniel; he is furious with himself. He spends the entire day trying to find a legal loophole to save Daniel from the execution.

  • Urdu Explanation (اردو تفسیر): بادشاہ کو جب حقیقت کا علم ہوا تو وہ دانیال سے نہیں بلکہ خود اپنی بے وقوفی پر سخت ناراض ہوا۔ اس نے فیصلہ کیا کہ وہ دانیال کو بچائے گا اور سورج غروب ہونے تک وہ دانیال کو اس سزا سے بچانے کے قانونی راستے تلاش کرتا رہا۔

Da 6 15

Then these men assembled unto the king and said unto the king Know O king that the law of the Medes and Persians is That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.

  • English Explanation: The political enemies return to remind the king that his hands are legally tied. They pressure him to execute the sentence, emphasizing that the law is absolute.

  • Urdu Explanation (اردو تفسیر): سازشی دوبارہ بادشاہ کے پاس اکٹھے ہوئے اور اسے یاد دلایا کہ قانون کے مطابق بادشاہ کے بنائے ہوئے کسی بھی فرمان یا قانون کو منسوخ نہیں کیا جا سکتا۔ انہوں نے بادشاہ پر دباؤ ڈالا کہ وہ سزا پر عمل کرے۔

Da 6 16

Then the king commanded and they brought Daniel and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel Thy God whom thou servest continually he will deliver thee.

  • English Explanation: Defeated by his own law, the king orders Daniel to be thrown into the lions’ den. However, the king expresses a profound hope, telling Daniel that the God he serves so faithfully will surely rescue him.

Da 6 17

And a stone was brought and laid upon the mouth of the den and the king sealed it with his own signet and with the signet of his lords that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.

  • English Explanation: A heavy stone is placed over the entrance of the pit. It is sealed with wax using the signet rings of both the king and the nobles, ensuring no one can secretly rescue Daniel or alter his fate during the night.

Da 6 18

Then the king went to his palace and passed the night fasting neither were instruments of musick brought before him and his sleep went from him.

  • English Explanation: King Darius returns to his palace but is consumed by guilt and anxiety. He refuses food, declines any entertainment, and suffers through a completely sleepless night.

Da 6 19

Then the king arose very early in the morning and went in haste unto the den of lions.

  • English Explanation: At the very first light of dawn, the king rushes to the lions’ den, desperate to see if Daniel survived.

  • Urdu Explanation (اردو تفسیر): صبح سویرے، پو پھٹتے ہی بادشاہ فوراً اٹھا اور بے تابی سے دوڑ کر شیروں کی کچھار کی طرف گیا۔

And when he came to the den he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel and the king spake and said to Daniel O Daniel servant of the living God is thy God whom thou servest continually able to deliver thee from the lions?

  • English Explanation: Approaching the pit, the king calls out in an anguished, emotional voice. He asks if Daniel’s “living God,” whom Daniel served without fail, was powerful enough to save him from the beasts.

Da 6 21

Then said Daniel unto the king O king live for ever.

  • English Explanation: Daniel responds calmly from inside the pit, using the customary respectful greeting. His voice alone is immediate proof of a miracle.

  • Urdu Explanation (اردو تفسیر): دانیال نے کچھار کے اندر سے نہایت سکون کے ساتھ روایتی شاہی انداز میں جواب دیا، “اے بادشاہ! تو ہمیشہ جیتا رہے۔” اس کی آواز سن کر ہی معجزے کی تصدیق ہو گئی۔

Da 6 22

My God hath sent his angel and hath shut the lions’ mouths that they have not hurt me forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me and also before thee O king have I done no hurt.

  • English Explanation: Daniel explains his miraculous survival: God sent an angel to physically shut the lions’ mouths. He was protected because he was innocent before God, and he reminds the king that he committed no real crime against the state.

Da 6 23

Then was the king exceeding glad for him and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den and no manner of hurt was found upon him because he believed in his God.

  • English Explanation: Overjoyed, King Darius immediately orders Daniel to be pulled up. When Daniel is inspected, there is not a single scratch on him, serving as a powerful testament to the reward of absolute faith.

Da 6 24

And the king commanded and they brought those men which had accused Daniel and they cast them into the den of lions them their children and their wives and the lions had the mastery of them and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.

  • English Explanation: In a brutal act of poetic justice typical of the ancient Near East, the king orders the conspirators who maliciously accused Daniel to be thrown into the same pit. The lions immediately overpower them and crush their bones before they even hit the ground, proving the lions were indeed hungry and Daniel’s survival was a true miracle.
