Deuteronomy 10:21–22

Verse 10:21

Scripture: He is thy praise and he is thy God that hath done for thee these great and terrible things which thine eyes have seen

  • English Explanation: Moses reminds the Israelites that God is the sole object of their worship. He emphasizes that they have personally witnessed God’s “terrible” (awe-inspiring) acts, establishing that their faith is based on historical reality, not just abstract ideas.

  • Urdu Explanation: موسیٰ بنی اسرائیل کو یاد دلاتے ہیں کہ خدا ہی ان کی ستائش کا مرکز ہے۔ انہوں نے اپنی آنکھوں سے خدا کے وہ عظیم اور ہیبت ناک کام دیکھے ہیں جو اس نے ان کے لیے کیے، اس لیے وہی عبادت کے لائق ہے۔

Verse 10:22

Scripture: Thy fathers went down into Egypt with threescore and ten persons and now the LORD thy God hath made thee as the stars of heaven for multitude

  • English Explanation: This highlights God’s faithfulness to His promise to Abraham. From a small group of 70 people who entered Egypt, God multiplied them into a massive nation, mirroring the “stars of heaven.”

  • Urdu Explanation: یہ آیت خدا کے وعدے کی وفاداری کو ظاہر کرتی ہے۔ جب تمہارے باپ دادا مصر گئے تو وہ صرف ستر (70) افراد تھے، لیکن اب خدا نے تمہیں آسمان کے ستاروں کی مانند کثیر کر دیا ہے۔

Deuteronomy Chapter 11

Verse 11:1

Scripture: Therefore thou shalt love the LORD thy God and keep his charge and his statutes and his judgments and his commandments alway

  • English Explanation: Because of God’s greatness, the natural response should be love. This love is expressed through consistent obedience to His laws and decrees “alway” (perpetually).

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا کی عظمت کا تقاضا یہ ہے کہ تم اس سے محبت رکھو اور ہمیشہ اس کے احکام، قوانین اور فرمانوں کی فرمانبرداری کرو۔

Verse 11:2

Scripture: And know ye this day for I speak not with your children which have not known and which have not seen the chastisement of the LORD your God his greatness his mighty hand and his stretched out arm

  • English Explanation: Moses addresses the adults who actually witnessed God’s power. He clarifies that this message is for those with first-hand experience of God’s discipline and strength.

  • Urdu Explanation: موسیٰ ان لوگوں سے مخاطب ہیں جنہوں نے خدا کی قدرت کا مشاہدہ کیا۔ وہ کہتے ہیں کہ یہ کلام تمہارے بچوں کے لیے نہیں بلکہ تمہارے لیے ہے جنہوں نے خدا کی تنبیہ اور اس کے زور آور ہاتھ کو دیکھا ہے۔

Verse 11:3–4

Scripture: And his miracles and his acts which he did in the midst of Egypt unto Pharaoh the king of Egypt and unto all his land And what he did unto the army of Egypt unto their horses and to their chariots how he made the water of the Red sea to overflow them as they pursued after you and how the LORD hath destroyed them unto this day

  • English Explanation: Moses recounts the victory at the Red Sea. God didn’t just save Israel; He dismantled the military might of the world’s superpower (Egypt) to ensure Israel’s freedom.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہاں مصر میں دکھائے گئے معجزات اور بحیرہ قلزم میں فرعون کے لشکر کی تباہی کا ذکر ہے۔ خدا نے اسرائیل کو بچانے کے لیے دشمن کی پوری طاقت کو ملیا میٹ کر دیا۔

Verse 11:5–7

Scripture: And what he did unto you in the wilderness… what he did unto Dathan and Abiram… how the earth opened her mouth and swallowed them up… But your eyes have seen all the great acts of the LORD which he did

  • English Explanation: Moses references the rebellion of Dathan and Abiram to show that God is holy and will punish rebellion within His own people just as He punished external enemies.

  • Urdu Explanation: داتن اور ابیرام کی بغاوت کا ذکر عبرت کے طور پر کیا گیا ہے کہ خدا نہ صرف دشمنوں کو سزا دیتا ہے بلکہ اپنوں میں سے بھی باغیوں کو برداشت نہیں کرتا۔

Verse 11:8–9

Scripture: Therefore shall ye keep all the commandments… that ye may be strong and go in and possess the land… and that ye may prolong your days in the land… a land that floweth with milk and honey

  • English Explanation: Obedience is the key to strength and longevity in the Promised Land. The “milk and honey” symbolize the extreme fertility and abundance of the region.

  • Urdu Explanation: احکام پر عمل کرنے کا مقصد یہ ہے کہ تم مضبوط بنو اور اس ملک پر قبضہ کرو جس کا وعدہ خدا نے تمہارے باپ دادا سے کیا تھا۔ یہ ملک “دودھ اور شہد” کی کثرت والا ہے۔

Verse 11:10–12

Scripture: For the land… is not as the land of Egypt… but is a land of hills and valleys and drinketh water of the rain of heaven… A land which the LORD thy God careth for

  • English Explanation: Egypt required manual labor for irrigation (“wateredst it with thy foot”). Canaan, however, relies on rain from heaven, making the people directly dependent on God’s provision.

  • Urdu Explanation: ملکِ کنعان مصر جیسا نہیں ہے جہاں محنت سے پانی دینا پڑتا تھا۔ یہ پہاڑوں اور وادیوں کا ملک ہے جو آسمانی بارش پر منحصر ہے، یعنی یہ براہِ راست خدا کی دیکھ بھال میں ہے۔

Verse 11:13–15

Scripture: And it shall come to pass if ye shall hearken diligently… That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season… And I will send grass in thy fields for thy cattle

  • English Explanation: God promises seasonal rains (early and late) as a reward for wholehearted service. This ensures food for both humans and livestock.

  • Urdu Explanation: اگر تم دل و جان سے خدا کی پیروی کرو گے، تو وہ وقت پر بارش برسائے گا تاکہ تمہاری فصلیں اور مویشی پھلیں پھولیں اور تم سیر ہو کر کھاؤ۔

Verse 11:16–17

Scripture: Take heed to yourselves that your heart be not deceived… and then the LORD’s wrath be kindled against you and he shut up the heaven

  • English Explanation: A warning against idolatry. If the people turn to other gods, the “heavens will be shut”—meaning drought and famine will lead to their destruction.

  • Urdu Explanation: خبردار رہو کہ تمہارا دل گمراہ نہ ہو جائے اور تم غیر معبودوں کی پوجا نہ کرنے لگو، ورنہ خدا کا غضب بھڑکے گا اور بارش رک جائے گی جس سے تم ہلاک ہو جاؤ گے۔

Verse 11:18–20

Scripture: Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart… And ye shall teach them your children… And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house

  • English Explanation: God’s word must permeate every aspect of life—thoughts (heart), actions (hands), and home life (door posts). Education of the next generation is vital.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا کے کلام کو اپنے دلوں میں بسا لو، اپنے بچوں کو سکھاؤ اور اپنے گھر کے دروازوں پر لکھو تاکہ زندگی کا ہر پہلو خدا کی ہدایت کے مطابق ہو۔

Verse 11:21

Scripture: That your days may be multiplied and the days of your children in the land… as the days of heaven upon the earth

  • English Explanation: Living by God’s word brings a “heaven on earth” quality of life, characterized by longevity and divine blessing for generations.

  • Urdu Explanation: تاکہ تمہاری اور تمہاری اولاد کی عمر اس زمین پر طویل ہو اور تم زمین پر آسمانی زندگی جیسی برکتیں پاؤ۔

Verse 11:22–25

Scripture: For if ye shall diligently keep all these commandments… Then will the LORD drive out all these nations from before you… Every place whereon the soles of your feet shall tread shall be yours

  • English Explanation: Total obedience guarantees military victory. God promises that no enemy can stand against them, and their territory will expand to the Euphrates and the sea.

  • Urdu Explanation: اگر تم فرمانبردار رہو گے تو خدا تمہارے سامنے سے بڑی قوموں کو نکال دے گا۔ جہاں بھی تمہارے قدم پڑیں گے وہ جگہ تمہاری ہوگی اور کوئی تمہارا مقابلہ نہ کر سکے گا۔
