Deuteronomy 28:14

Verse: And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day to the right hand or to the left to go after other gods to serve them

  • English Explanation: This serves as the pivot point. It warns against any deviation—no matter how small—from the path of righteousness. “Turning to the right or left” symbolizes compromising one’s values or falling into idolatry.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہ آیت ایک اہم موڑ ہے۔ یہ خبردار کرتی ہے کہ اللہ کے احکامات سے ذرا بھی انحراف نہ کیا جائے۔ “دائیں یا بائیں مڑنا” اپنے ایمان پر سمجھوتہ کرنے اور دوسرے معبودوں کی عبادت کرنے کی علامت ہے جو کہ مکمل گمراہی ہے۔

Deuteronomy 28:15

Verse: But it shall come to pass if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day that all these curses shall come upon thee and overtake thee

  • English Explanation: This establishes the “if-then” condition of the covenant. Failure to listen and obey triggers a collective onset of “curses” that will actively pursue the individual or nation.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہ عہد کی شرط کو واضح کرتی ہے۔ اگر تم رب کی آواز نہیں سنو گے اور اس کے احکامات پر عمل نہیں کرو گے، تو یہ تمام لعنتیں تم پر نازل ہوں گی اور تمہیں آ گھیریں گی۔

Deuteronomy 28:16

Verse: Cursed shalt thou be in the city and cursed shalt thou be in the field

  • English Explanation: Total geographical failure. Whether in the urban centers of commerce or the rural areas of production, the blessing of success is withdrawn.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہ مکمل جغرافیائی ناکامی کی علامت ہے۔ شہر ہو یا دیہات، کاروبار ہو یا زراعت، ہر جگہ سے برکت اٹھا لی جائے گی۔

Deuteronomy 28:17

Verse: Cursed shall be thy basket and thy store

  • English Explanation: This refers to the immediate food supply (basket) and the long-term savings or reserves (store). It signifies economic instability and food insecurity.

  • Urdu Explanation: اس سے مراد روزمرہ کی خوراک (ٹوکری) اور مستقبل کے لیے جمع کردہ ذخیرہ ہے۔ یہ معاشی عدم استحکام اور خوراک کی کمی کی نشاندہی کرتا ہے۔

Deuteronomy 28:18

Verse: Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body and the fruit of thy land the increase of thy kine and the flocks of thy sheep

  • English Explanation: A curse on productivity and future generations. It encompasses infertility, crop failure, and the death of livestock.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہ نسل اور پیداوار پر لعنت ہے۔ اس میں بانجھ پن، فصلوں کی تباہی اور مویشیوں کی ہلاکت شامل ہے۔

Deuteronomy 28:19

Verse: Cursed shalt thou be when thou comest in and cursed shalt thou be when thou goest out

  • English Explanation: Lack of peace in all movements. Every journey and every return will be marked by misfortune rather than safety.

  • Urdu Explanation: نقل و حرکت میں سکون کا خاتمہ۔ تمہارا آنا اور جانا، دونوں ہی سلامتی کے بجائے بدقسمتی کا شکار ہوں گے۔

Deuteronomy 28:20

Verse: The LORD shall send upon thee cursing vexation and rebuke in all that thou settest thine hand unto for to do until thou be destroyed and until thou perish quickly because of the wickedness of thy doings whereby thou hast forsaken me

  • English Explanation: Divine frustration in all endeavors. No matter how hard one works, the result will be confusion and failure because the spiritual foundation is lost.

  • Urdu Explanation: تمہارے ہر کام میں الجھن اور ملامت ہو گی۔ تم جتنی بھی محنت کر لو، نتیجہ صرف تباہی ہو گا کیونکہ تم نے اپنے برے اعمال کی وجہ سے اللہ کو چھوڑ دیا ہے۔

Deuteronomy 28:21

Verse: The LORD shall make the pestilence cleave unto thee until he have consumed thee from off the land whither thou goest to possess it

  • English Explanation: Disease (pestilence) will become a permanent companion, preventing the people from enjoying the land they were meant to inherit.

  • Urdu Explanation: وبائیں تمہارے ساتھ چمٹ جائیں گی یہاں تک کہ تم اس زمین سے مٹ جاؤ گے جسے تم حاصل کرنے جا رہے تھے۔

Deuteronomy 28:22

Verse: The LORD shall smite thee with a consumption and with a fever and with an inflammation and with an extreme burning and with the sword and with blasting and with mildew and they shall pursue thee until thou perish

  • English Explanation: A list of physical ailments and environmental disasters. Consumption (wasting diseases) and drought (blasting/mildew) will chase the disobedient.

  • Urdu Explanation: مختلف جسمانی بیماریوں (بخار، سوزش) اور قدرتی آفات کا ذکر ہے۔ قحط اور بیماریاں تمہارا پیچھا نہیں چھوڑیں گی جب تک تم ہلاک نہ ہو جاؤ۔

Deuteronomy 28:23

Verse: And thy heaven that is over thy head shall be brass and the earth that is under thee shall be iron

  • English Explanation: A powerful metaphor for drought. The sky yields no rain (hard like brass) and the earth yields no crops (hard like iron).

  • Urdu Explanation: قحط کی ایک طاقتور تشبیہ۔ آسمان پیتل کی طرح سخت ہو جائے گا (بارش نہیں ہو گی) اور زمین لوہے کی طرح (کچھ نہیں اگائے گی)۔

Deuteronomy 28:24

Verse: The LORD shall make the rain of thy land powder and dust from heaven shall it come down upon thee until thou be destroyed

  • English Explanation: Instead of life-giving water, the wind will bring dust storms and sand, further destroying the remaining vegetation.

  • Urdu Explanation: بارش کے بجائے آسمان سے خاک اور غبار برسے گا، جو رہی سہی ہریالی کو بھی ختم کر دے گا۔

Deuteronomy 28:25

Verse: The LORD shall cause thee to be smitten before thine enemies thou shalt go out one way against them and flee seven ways before them and shalt be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth

  • English Explanation: Military defeat and total disarray. Instead of a unified front, the people will scatter in terror and become refugees across the globe.

  • Urdu Explanation: دشمنوں کے سامنے شکست اور افراتفری۔ تم ایک راستے سے مقابلے کے لیے نکلو گے لیکن خوف کے مارے سات راستوں سے بھاگو گے اور دنیا بھر میں منتشر ہو جاؤ گے۔

Deuteronomy 28:26

Verse: And thy carcase shall be meat unto all fowls of the air and unto the beasts of the earth and no man shall fray them away

  • English Explanation: The ultimate indignity in ancient times: lack of a proper burial. Bodies will be left for scavengers with no one to protect them.

  • Urdu Explanation: قدیم دور کی سب سے بڑی ذلت: کفن دفن کا نہ ہونا۔ تمہاری لاشیں پرندوں اور درندوں کی خوراک بنیں گی اور کوئی انہیں بھگانے والا نہ ہو گا۔

Deuteronomy 28:27

Verse: The LORD will smite thee with the botch of Egypt and with the emerods and with the scab and with the itch whereof thou canst not be healed

  • English Explanation: Incurable skin diseases and agonizing physical conditions that serve as a constant reminder of their affliction.

  • Urdu Explanation: ایسی لاعلاج جلدی بیماریاں اور پھوڑے پھنسیاں جو مستقل تکلیف کا باعث بنیں گی اور کبھی ٹھیک نہ ہوں گی۔

Deuteronomy 28:28

Verse: The LORD shall smite thee with madness and blindness and astonishment of heart

  • English Explanation: Mental and emotional breakdown. The inability to see the path forward (blindness) and the loss of rational thought (madness).

  • Urdu Explanation: ذہنی اور جذباتی شکست۔ آگے کا راستہ نہ دیکھ پانا (اندھا پن) اور عقل و شعور کا کھو جانا (دیوانگی)۔

Deuteronomy 28:29

Verse: And thou shalt grope at noonday as the blind gropeth in darkness and thou shalt not prosper in thy ways and thou shalt be only oppressed and spoiled evermore and no man shall save thee

  • English Explanation: Living in a state of confusion even when the truth is obvious. Success becomes impossible, and exploitation by others becomes constant.

  • Urdu Explanation: تم دن کے اجالے میں بھی اندھوں کی طرح ٹھوکریں کھاؤ گے۔ تمہارے کاموں میں برکت نہیں ہو گی اور تم ہمیشہ ظلم اور لٹ مار کا شکار رہو گے۔

Deuteronomy 28:30

Verse: Thou shalt betroth a wife and another man shall lie with her thou shalt build an house and thou shalt not dwell therein thou shalt plant a vineyard and shalt not gather the grapes thereof

  • English Explanation: The frustration of “labor without fruit.” Others will enjoy the rewards of your personal investments, family, and hard work.

  • Urdu Explanation: “بغیر پھل کے محنت” کی اذیت۔ تمہاری محنت، گھر اور خاندان کے ثمرات سے دوسرے فائدہ اٹھائیں گے اور تم محروم رہو گے۔

Deuteronomy 28:31

Verse: Thine ox shall be slain before thine eyes and thou shalt not eat thereof thine ass shall be violently taken away from before thy face and shall not be restored to thee thy sheep shall be given unto thine enemies and thou shalt have none to rescue them

  • English Explanation: Helplessness in the face of loss. Watching your livelihood being taken away by force without any power to stop it.

  • Urdu Explanation: نقصان کے سامنے بے بسی۔ اپنی آنکھوں کے سامنے اپنے مال و مویشی کو چھینتے دیکھنا اور انہیں بچانے کی طاقت نہ رکھنا۔

Deuteronomy 28:32

Verse: Thy sons and thy daughters shall be given unto another people and thine eyes shall look and fail with longing for them all the day long and there shall be no might in thine hand

  • English Explanation: The heartbreaking separation of families. Children taken into captivity while parents watch in agonizing helplessness.

  • Urdu Explanation: خاندانوں کی جدائی کا کرب۔ تمہاری اولاد تمہاری آنکھوں کے سامنے دوسرے لوگوں کے قبضے میں چلی جائے گی اور تم کچھ نہیں کر پاؤ گے۔

Deuteronomy 28:33

Verse: The fruit of thy land and all thy labours shall a nation which thou knowest not eat up and thou shalt be only oppressed and crushed alway

  • English Explanation: Foreign exploitation. Unknown nations will profit from your economy while you remain in a cycle of poverty and oppression.

  • Urdu Explanation: غیر ملکی استحصال۔ انجانی قومیں تمہاری محنت کی کمائی کھا جائیں گی اور تم ہمیشہ دبے ہوئے اور کچلے ہوئے رہو گے۔

Deuteronomy 28:34

Verse: So that thou shalt be mad for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see

  • English Explanation: The horrors witnessed will be so great that they cause actual mental instability or deep despair.

  • Urdu Explanation: تم جو کچھ اپنی آنکھوں سے دیکھو گے، وہ منظر تمہیں دیوانہ بنا دیں گے۔ یعنی مصائب کی شدت برداشت سے باہر ہو گی۔

Deuteronomy 28:35

Verse: The LORD shall smite thee in the knees and in the legs with a sore botch that cannot be healed from the sole of thy foot unto the top of thy head

  • English Explanation: Total physical debilitation starting from the lower limbs and spreading to cover the entire body with incurable sores.

  • Urdu Explanation: مکمل جسمانی معذوری۔ گھٹنوں اور ٹانگوں سے شروع ہونے والے لاعلاج پھوڑے پورے جسم کو اپنی لپیٹ میں لے لیں گے۔

Deuteronomy 28:36

Verse: The LORD shall bring thee and thy king which thou shalt set over thee unto a nation which neither thou nor thy fathers have known and there shalt thou serve other gods wood and stone

  • English Explanation: Exile and the loss of sovereignty. Both leaders and citizens will be forced into a culture where they are pressured to serve idols.

  • Urdu Explanation: جلاوطنی اور حاکمیت کا خاتمہ۔ تم اور تمہارا بادشاہ ایک ایسی قوم کی غلامی میں جاؤ گے جہاں تمہیں لکڑی اور پتھر کے بتوں کی پوجا کرنی پڑے گی۔

Deuteronomy 28:37

Verse: And thou shalt become an astonishment a proverb and a byword among all nations whither the LORD shall lead thee

  • English Explanation: Loss of reputation. Instead of being a light to the nations, the people will become a cautionary tale and an object of mockery.

  • Urdu Explanation: بدنامی اور عبرت کا نشان۔ تم قوموں کے درمیان ایک مثال اور طنز کا نشان بن جاؤ گے، اور لوگ تمہاری حالت پر حیران ہوں گے۔

Deuteronomy 28:38

Verse: Thou shalt carry much seed out into the field and shalt gather but little in for the locust shall consume it

  • English Explanation: Futile effort in agriculture. Despite heavy investment in planting, pests (locusts) will destroy the harvest.

  • Urdu Explanation: زراعت میں فضول کوشش۔ تم بیج تو بہت زیادہ بوؤ گے لیکن فصل بہت کم ملے گی کیونکہ ٹڈیاں اسے کھا جائیں گی۔

Deuteronomy 28:39

Verse: Thou shalt plant vineyards and dress them but shalt neither drink of the wine nor gather the grapes for the worms shall eat them

  • English Explanation: Labor without luxury. The hard work of tending vineyards will result in nothing because of blight and pests.

  • Urdu Explanation: آسائش سے محرومی۔ تم انگوروں کے باغ تو لگاؤ گے لیکن ان کا پھل نصیب نہیں ہو گا کیونکہ کیڑے انہیں کھا جائیں گے۔

Deuteronomy 28:40

Verse: Thou shalt have olive trees throughout all thy coasts but thou shalt not anoint thyself with the oil for thine olive shall cast his fruit

  • English Explanation: Failure of the most stable crops. Even olive trees, which are hardy, will fail to produce usable oil, signifying a loss of comfort and health.

  • Urdu Explanation: مستحکم فصلوں کی ناکامی۔ زیتون کے درخت ہونے کے باوجود تمہیں تیل میسر نہیں آئے گا کیونکہ پھل وقت سے پہلے ہی گر جائے گا۔
