Chapter 29: The Consequences of Disobedience
Verse 21
Verse: And the LORD shall separate him unto evil out of all the tribes of Israel according to all the curses of the covenant that are written in this book of the law English Explanation: This verse warns that an individual who turns to idolatry will not be hidden by the community’s righteousness. God will single them out for judgment according to the legal warnings established in the Law. Urdu Explanation: اس آیت میں خبردار کیا گیا ہے کہ جو شخص بت پرستی کی طرف مائل ہوگا، اسے بنی اسرائیل کے دیگر قبائل سے الگ کر کے سزا دی جائے گی۔ خدا اسے ان تمام لعنتوں کا نشانہ بنائے گا جو شریعت کی کتاب میں درج ہیں۔
Verse 22
Verse: So that the generation to come of your children that shall rise up after you and the stranger that shall come from a far land shall say when they see the plagues of that land and the sicknesses which the LORD hath laid upon it English Explanation: Future generations and foreign travelers will witness the total devastation of the land, serving as a historical testimony to the consequences of breaking God’s decree. Urdu Explanation: آنے والی نسلیں اور دور دراز سے آنے والے مسافر جب اس زمین کی تباہی اور بیماریوں کو دیکھیں گے تو وہ حیران رہ جائیں گے کہ خدا نے اس سرزمین کے ساتھ ایسا کیوں کیا۔
Verse 23
Verse: And that the whole land thereof is brimstone and salt and burning that it is not sown nor beareth nor any grass groweth therein like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah Admah and Zeboim which the LORD overthrew in his anger and in his wrath English Explanation: The land is described as a wasteland of sulfur and salt, echoing the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. It signifies a divine judgment that renders the earth barren and uninhabitable. Urdu Explanation: پوری زمین گندھک، نمک اور آگ سے جھلس جائے گی۔ نہ وہاں بیج بویا جا سکے گا اور نہ گھاس اگے گی۔ یہ تباہی سدوم اور عمورہ کی طرح ہوگی جسے خدا نے اپنے شدید غصے میں نیست و نابود کر دیا تھا۔
Verse 24
Verse: Even all nations shall say Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this land what meaneth the heat of this great anger English Explanation: The scale of destruction will be so vast that all nations will ask why God poured out such immense fury on His own land. Urdu Explanation: تمام قومیں سوال کریں گی کہ خداوند نے اس ملک کے ساتھ ایسا کیوں کیا؟ اس شدید غصے کی وجہ کیا ہے؟
Verse 25
Verse: Then men shall say Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD God of their fathers which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt English Explanation: The answer provided is clear: the people abandoned the covenant made during the Exodus, betraying the relationship established by God. Urdu Explanation: تب جواب ملے گا کہ یہ اس لیے ہوا کیونکہ انہوں نے اپنے باپ دادا کے خدا کے عہد کو توڑ دیا جو اس نے مصر سے نکالتے وقت ان سے باندھا تھا۔
Verse 26
Verse: For they went and served other gods and worshipped them gods whom they knew not and whom he had not given unto them English Explanation: The specific sin was idolatry—worshipping foreign gods that had no history with Israel and provided no salvation. Urdu Explanation: کیونکہ انہوں نے غیر معبودوں کی پوجا کی جنہیں وہ جانتے بھی نہ تھے، اور جن کی عبادت کی اجازت خدا نے کبھی نہیں دی تھی۔
Verse 27
Verse: And the anger of the LORD was kindled against this land to bring upon it all the curses that are written in this book English Explanation: Because of this betrayal, the legal penalties (curses) outlined in the Torah were activated against the land. Urdu Explanation: اسی لیے اس سرزمین پر خدا کا غضب بھڑک اٹھا تاکہ وہ تمام لعنتیں نازل ہوں جو اس کتاب میں لکھی ہیں۔
Verse 28
Verse: And the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger and in wrath and in great indignation and cast them into another land as it is this day English Explanation: God uprooted the people from their inheritance and exiled them to foreign nations, a state that remains a historical reality. Urdu Explanation: خدا نے انہیں غصے اور جلال میں ان کی زمین سے اکھاڑ پھینکا اور دوسری زمینوں میں بکھیر دیا، جیسا کہ آج کے دن تک ظاہر ہے۔
Verse 29
Verse: The secret things belong unto the LORD our God but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever that we may do all the words of this law English Explanation: While some mysteries belong to God alone, the revealed Law is given for humans to obey. Our responsibility is to act on what has been clearly commanded. Urdu Explanation: پوشیدہ باتیں خداوند ہمارے خدا ہی کے لیے ہیں، لیکن جو باتیں ظاہر کر دی گئی ہیں وہ ہمارے اور ہماری اولاد کے لیے ہیں تاکہ ہم شریعت کے تمام کلام پر عمل کریں۔
Chapter 30: Repentance and Restoration
Verse 1
Verse: And it shall come to pass when all these things are come upon thee the blessing and the curse which I have set before thee and thou shalt call them to mind among all the nations whither the LORD thy God hath driven thee English Explanation: Moses predicts a time in exile when Israel will reflect on the blessings and curses they have experienced and remember God’s word. Urdu Explanation: اور جب یہ سب باتیں یعنی برکت اور لعنت تم پر نازل ہو جائیں گی، تو تم ان تمام قوموں کے درمیان جہاں خدا نے تمہیں بکھیر دیا ہے، ان باتوں کو یاد کرو گے۔
Verse 2
Verse: And shalt return unto the LORD thy God and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day thou and thy children with all thine heart and with all thy soul English Explanation: Restoration begins with a sincere return to God and wholehearted obedience to His commands. Urdu Explanation: اور تم اپنے خداوند خدا کی طرف رجوع کرو گے اور اپنے پورے دل اور جان سے اس کی فرمانبرداری کرو گے۔
Verse 3
Verse: That then the LORD thy God will turn thy captivity and have compassion upon thee and will return and gather thee from all the nations whither the LORD thy God hath scattered thee English Explanation: Upon their repentance, God promises to end their exile, show mercy, and physically regather them from across the globe. Urdu Explanation: تب خداوند تمہاری قید کو ختم کرے گا، تم پر رحم فرمائے گا اور تمہیں ان تمام قوموں سے دوبارہ جمع کرے گا جہاں اس نے تمہیں بکھرا تھا۔
Verse 4
Verse: If any of thine be driven out unto the outmost parts of heaven from thence will the LORD thy God gather thee and from thence will he fetch thee English Explanation: No distance is too great for God’s restoration; even those at the ends of the earth will be brought back. Urdu Explanation: اگر تم آسمان کے آخری کناروں تک بھی نکال دیے گئے ہو، تب بھی خداوند تمہارا خدا تمہیں وہاں سے جمع کر کے واپس لائے گا۔
Verse 5
Verse: And the LORD thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed and thou shalt possess it and he will do thee good and multiply thee above thy fathers English Explanation: God will restore the people to their ancestral land, making them even more prosperous and numerous than their forefathers. Urdu Explanation: خداوند تمہیں اس زمین پر واپس لائے گا جو تمہارے باپ دادا کی تھی، اور وہ تمہارے ساتھ بھلائی کرے گا اور تمہیں پہلے سے زیادہ بڑھائے گا۔
Verse 6
Verse: And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart and the heart of thy seed to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart and with all thy soul that thou mayest live English Explanation: This refers to a spiritual transformation where God changes the inner nature of the people so they can truly love Him and live spiritually. Urdu Explanation: خداوند تمہارے اور تمہاری نسل کے دلوں کو پاک کرے گا تاکہ تم اس سے سچی محبت کر سکو اور زندگی پا سکو۔
Verse 7
Verse: And the LORD thy God will put all these curses upon thine enemies and on them that hate thee which persecuted thee English Explanation: The judgment that once fell on Israel for their sins will be shifted onto the enemies who persecuted them. Urdu Explanation: اور خداوند وہ تمام لعنتیں تمہارے دشمنوں اور تم سے نفرت کرنے والوں پر ڈال دے گا جنہوں نے تم پر ظلم کیا۔
Verse 8
Verse: And thou shalt return and obey the voice of the LORD and do all his commandments which I command thee this day English Explanation: A restored relationship is characterized by a renewed commitment to keeping God’s laws. Urdu Explanation: اور تم پھر سے خداوند کی آواز سنو گے اور اس کے ان تمام احکام پر عمل کرو گے جو میں آج تمہیں دے رہا ہوں۔
Verse 9
Verse: And the LORD thy God will make thee plenteous in every work of thine hand in the fruit of thy body and in the fruit of thy cattle and in the fruit of thy land for good for the LORD will again rejoice over thee for good as he rejoiced over thy fathers English Explanation: Obedience leads to total abundance in family, livestock, and agriculture. God will take joy in His people’s prosperity. Urdu Explanation: خداوند تمہارے ہر کام میں برکت دے گا، تمہاری اولاد، مویشیوں اور زمین کی پیداوار میں کثرت دے گا اور تم سے خوش ہوگا جیسا کہ وہ تمہارے باپ دادا سے خوش تھا۔
Verse 10
Verse: If thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law and if thou turn unto the LORD thy God with all thine heart and with all thy soul English Explanation: The prerequisite for these blessings remains a sincere, total commitment to the written Law and a heart turned toward God. Urdu Explanation: بشرطیکہ تم خداوند کی بات مانو اور ان احکام پر عمل کرو جو شریعت کی اس کتاب میں لکھے ہیں اور اپنے پورے دل سے خدا کی طرف رجوع کرو۔
Verse 11
Verse: For this commandment which I command thee this day it is not hidden from thee neither is it far off English Explanation: God’s requirements are not mysterious or impossible to understand; they are accessible to everyone. Urdu Explanation: کیونکہ یہ حکم جو میں آج تمہیں دیتا ہوں، نہ تو تمہارے لیے بہت مشکل ہے اور نہ ہی تمہاری پہنچ سے دور ہے۔
Verse 12
Verse: It is not in heaven that thou shouldest say Who shall go up for us to heaven and bring it unto us that we may hear it and do it English Explanation: You don’t need a special messenger to climb to heaven to get God’s word; it has already been given. Urdu Explanation: یہ آسمان پر نہیں ہے کہ تم کہو کہ کون ہمارے لیے آسمان پر جائے گا اور اسے ہمارے پاس لائے گا تاکہ ہم اسے سنیں اور اس پر عمل کریں۔
Verse 13
Verse: Neither is it beyond the sea that thou shouldest say Who shall go over the sea for us and bring it unto us that we may hear it and do it English Explanation: The truth is not across an impassable ocean; it is within reach. Urdu Explanation: نہ ہی یہ سمندر پار ہے کہ تمہیں اسے تلاش کرنے کے لیے دور جانا پڑے۔
Verse 14
Verse: But the word is very nigh unto thee in thy mouth and in thy heart that thou mayest do it English Explanation: The word of God is intimate and close—it should be on your lips and in your thoughts so that you can easily put it into practice. Urdu Explanation: بلکہ یہ کلام تمہارے بہت قریب ہے، تمہارے منہ میں اور تمہارے دل میں ہے، تاکہ تم اس پر عمل کر سکو۔
Verse 15
Verse: See I have set before thee this day life and good and death and evil English Explanation: Moses concludes with the ultimate choice: obedience leads to life and prosperity, while disobedience leads to death and destruction. Urdu Explanation: دیکھو، آج میں نے تمہارے سامنے زندگی اور بھلائی، اور موت اور برائی کو رکھ دیا ہے۔ اب انتخاب تمہارا ہے۔
