Deuteronomy Chapter 6: Verses 21–25

Verse 21

Then thou shalt say unto thy son We were Pharaoh’s bondmen in Egypt and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand

  • English Explanation: This verse instructs parents to share the history of their salvation with their children. It emphasizes that their freedom was not self-earned but was a direct result of God’s intervention against the oppression of Egypt.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہ آیت والدین کو ہدایت دیتی ہے کہ وہ اپنے بچوں کو اپنی نجات کی تاریخ بتائیں۔ یہ اس بات پر زور دیتی ہے کہ ان کی آزادی ان کی اپنی کوشش نہیں تھی بلکہ مصر کے ظلم و ستم کے خلاف خدا کی براہ راست مداخلت کا نتیجہ تھی۔

Verse 22

And the LORD shewed signs and wonders great and sore upon Egypt upon Pharaoh and upon all his household before our eyes

  • English Explanation: Moses reminds the people of the visible miracles and plagues God used to break Pharaoh’s power. These were undeniable proofs of God’s sovereignty.

  • Urdu Explanation: موسیٰ لوگوں کو ان واضح معجزات اور بلاؤں کی یاد دلاتے ہیں جو خدا نے فرعون کی طاقت کو توڑنے کے لیے استعمال کیں۔ یہ خدا کی حاکمیت کے ناقابل تردید ثبوت تھے۔

Verse 23

And he brought us out from thence that he might bring us in to give us the land which he sware unto our fathers

  • English Explanation: Deliverance from slavery had a specific purpose: the fulfillment of the promise made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. God brings His people out to bring them in.

  • Urdu Explanation: غلامی سے نجات کا ایک خاص مقصد تھا: ابراہام، اسحاق اور یعقوب سے کیے گئے وعدے کی تکمیل۔ خدا اپنے لوگوں کو باہر نکالتا ہے تاکہ انہیں (موعودہ زمین میں) داخل کر سکے۔

Verse 24

And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes to fear the LORD our God for our good always that he might preserve us alive as it is at this day

  • English Explanation: God’s laws are not burdensome; they are designed for the well-being and survival of the community. Obedience leads to a preserved and flourishing life.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا کے قوانین بوجھ نہیں ہیں؛ یہ معاشرے کی فلاح و بہبود اور بقا کے لیے بنائے گئے ہیں۔ فرمانبرداری ایک محفوظ اور خوشحال زندگی کی طرف لے جاتی ہے۔

Verse 25

And it shall be our righteousness if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God as he hath commanded us

  • English Explanation: Righteousness is defined here as faithful adherence to the covenantal relationship through obedience to God’s commands.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہاں راستبازی کی تعریف خدا کے احکامات کی فرمانبرداری کے ذریعے عہد کے رشتے پر وفاداری سے عمل کرنے کے طور پر کی گئی ہے۔

Deuteronomy Chapter 7: Verses 1–19

Verse 1

When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it and hath cast out many nations before thee the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Canaanites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites seven nations greater and mightier than thou

  • English Explanation: God acknowledges the strength of the opposing nations but promises that He is the one clearing the way. It highlights that victory belongs to the Lord.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا مخالف قوموں کی طاقت کا اعتراف کرتا ہے لیکن وعدہ کرتا ہے کہ وہی راستہ صاف کرنے والا ہے۔ یہ اس بات کو اجاگر کرتا ہے کہ فتح صرف خداوند کی ہے۔

Verse 2

And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee thou shalt smite them and utterly destroy them thou shalt make no covenant with them nor shew mercy unto them

  • English Explanation: This command for total destruction was to prevent the spiritual pollution of Israel. Compromise with these nations would lead to idolatry.

  • Urdu Explanation: مکمل تباہی کا یہ حکم اسرائیل کو روحانی آلودگی سے بچانے کے لیے تھا۔ ان قوموں کے ساتھ سمجھوتہ بت پرستی کا باعث بن سکتا تھا۔

Verse 3

Neither shalt thou make marriages with them thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son

  • English Explanation: Intermarriage was forbidden to preserve the religious and moral purity of the nation of Israel.

  • Urdu Explanation: اسرائیل کی قوم کی مذہبی اور اخلاقی پاکیزگی کو برقرار رکھنے کے لیے بین المذاہب شادیوں سے منع کیا گیا تھا۔

Verse 4

For they will turn away thy son from following me that they may serve other gods so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you and destroy thee suddenly

  • English Explanation: The warning is clear: outside influences will lead the heart away from the true God, resulting in divine judgment.

  • Urdu Explanation: تنبیہ واضح ہے: بیرونی اثرات دل کو سچے خدا سے دور کر دیں گے، جس کا نتیجہ الہی فیصلے کی صورت میں نکلے گا۔

Verse 5

But thus shall ye deal with them ye shall destroy their altars and break down their images and cut down their groves and burn their graven images with fire

  • English Explanation: Israel was commanded to physically remove the temptations of idolatry from the land to start fresh with a holy foundation.

  • Urdu Explanation: اسرائیل کو حکم دیا گیا تھا کہ وہ زمین سے بت پرستی کے فتنوں کو جسمانی طور پر ختم کر دیں تاکہ ایک مقدس بنیاد کے ساتھ نیا آغاز کیا جا سکے۔

Verse 6

For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself above all people that are upon the face of the earth

  • English Explanation: Their identity was rooted in being “set apart” (holy). They were chosen not for their merit, but for God’s specific purpose.

  • Urdu Explanation: ان کی شناخت “الگ تھلگ” (مقدس) ہونے میں تھی۔ ان کا انتخاب ان کی خوبیوں کی وجہ سے نہیں بلکہ خدا کے خاص مقصد کے لیے کیا گیا تھا۔

Verse 7

The LORD did not set his love upon you nor choose you because ye were more in number than any people for ye were the fewest of all people

  • English Explanation: God clarifies that His love is based on His grace, not on the size or power of the nation.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا واضح کرتا ہے کہ اس کی محبت اس کے فضل پر مبنی ہے، نہ کہ قوم کی تعداد یا طاقت پر۔

Verse 8

But because the LORD loved you and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt

  • English Explanation: The redemption from Egypt was an act of divine love and faithfulness to the ancient promises made to the patriarchs.

  • Urdu Explanation: مصر سے مخلصی خدا کی محبت اور ان قدیم وعدوں کے ساتھ وفاداری کا ایک عمل تھا جو باپ دادا سے کیے گئے تھے۔

Verse 9

Know therefore that the LORD thy God he is God the faithful God which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations

  • English Explanation: This defines the character of God as faithful. His mercy extends through vast generations to those who remain loyal.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہ خدا کی صفت کو وفادار کے طور پر بیان کرتا ہے۔ اس کی رحمت ان لوگوں کے لیے ہزاروں نسلوں تک پھیلی ہوئی ہے جو وفادار رہتے ہیں۔

Verse 10

And repayeth them that hate him to their face to destroy them he will not be slack to him that hateth him he will repay him to his face

  • English Explanation: While God is merciful, He is also just. Those who actively oppose Him and hate His ways will face direct consequences.

  • Urdu Explanation: جہاں خدا رحیم ہے، وہ عادل بھی ہے۔ جو لوگ سرگرمی سے اس کی مخالفت کرتے ہیں اور اس کے طریقوں سے نفرت کرتے ہیں، انہیں براہ راست نتائج کا سامنا کرنا پڑے گا۔

Verse 11

Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments and the statutes and the judgments which I command thee this day to do them

  • English Explanation: Because of who God is and what He has done, the logical response for the people is active obedience to His laws.

  • Urdu Explanation: اس وجہ سے کہ خدا کون ہے اور اس نے کیا کیا ہے، لوگوں کا منطقی ردعمل اس کے قوانین کی فعال فرمانبرداری ہے۔

Verse 12

Wherefore it shall come to pass if ye hearken to these judgments and keep and do them that the LORD thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers

  • English Explanation: Obedience unlocks the continued experience of the covenant blessings promised to their ancestors.

  • Urdu Explanation: فرمانبرداری ان عہد کی برکات کے مسلسل تجربے کا دروازہ کھولتی ہے جن کا ان کے باپ دادا سے وعدہ کیا گیا تھا۔

Verse 13

And he will love thee and bless thee and multiply thee he will also bless the fruit of thy womb and the fruit of thy land thy corn and thy wine and thine oil the increase of thy kine and the flocks of thy sheep in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee

  • English Explanation: God promises holistic prosperity—family, agriculture, and livestock—as a result of their faithfulness.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا ان کی وفاداری کے نتیجے میں ہمہ گیر خوشحالی—خاندان، زراعت اور مویشیوں—کا وعدہ کرتا ہے۔

Verse 14

Thou shalt be blessed above all people there shall not be male or female barren among you or among your cattle

  • English Explanation: The blessing of fruitfulness is extended to both the people and their animals, ensuring the nation’s growth and sustainability.

  • Urdu Explanation: بارآوری کی برکت لوگوں اور ان کے جانوروں دونوں تک پھیلی ہوئی ہے، جو قوم کی ترقی اور استحکام کو یقینی بناتی ہے۔

Verse 15

And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt which thou knowest upon thee but will lay them upon all them that hate thee

  • English Explanation: God promises divine health and protection from the plagues that struck Egypt, transferring those judgments onto their enemies instead.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا الہی صحت اور ان بلاؤں سے تحفظ کا وعدہ کرتا ہے جو مصر پر نازل ہوئی تھیں، اور ان فیصلوں کو ان کے دشمنوں پر منتقل کر دیتا ہے۔

Verse 16

And thou shalt consume all the people which the LORD thy God shall deliver thee thine eye shall have no pity upon them neither shalt thou serve their gods for that will be a snare unto thee

  • English Explanation: Victory requires total commitment. Showing pity to idolatrous nations would lead to the trap of following their false gods.

  • Urdu Explanation: فتح کے لیے مکمل عزم کی ضرورت ہوتی ہے۔ بت پرست قوموں پر ترس کھانا ان کے جھوٹے معبودوں کی پیروی کے جال کا باعث بنے گا۔

Verse 17

If thou shalt say in thine heart These nations are more than I how can I dispossess them

  • English Explanation: God addresses the secret fears of the heart, acknowledging that humanly speaking, the task looks impossible.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا دل کے خفیہ خوفوں کو مخاطب کرتا ہے، یہ تسلیم کرتے ہوئے کہ انسانی طور پر یہ کام ناممکن نظر آتا ہے۔

Verse 18

Thou shalt not be afraid of them but shalt well remember what the LORD thy God did unto Pharaoh and unto all Egypt

  • English Explanation: The remedy for fear is memory. By remembering past deliverances, the people find courage for future battles.

  • Urdu Explanation: خوف کا علاج ماضی کی یاد ہے۔ ماضی کی نجاتوں کو یاد کر کے، لوگ مستقبل کی لڑائیوں کے لیے حوصلہ پاتے ہیں۔

Verse 19

The great temptations which thine eyes saw and the signs and the wonders and the mighty hand and the stretched out arm whereby the LORD thy God brought thee out so shall the LORD thy God do unto all the people of whom thou art afraid

  • English Explanation: Moses assures them that the same power used against Egypt will be deployed against their current enemies. God’s strength is consistent.

  • Urdu Explanation: موسیٰ انہیں یقین دلاتے ہیں کہ وہی طاقت جو مصر کے خلاف استعمال کی گئی تھی، ان کے موجودہ دشمنوں کے خلاف بھی استعمال کی جائے گی۔ خدا کی قدرت مستقل ہے۔
