Ezekiel Chapter 28 (Verses 16–26)

Ezekiel 28:16

Verse: By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence and thou hast sinned therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God and I will destroy thee O covering cherub from the midst of the stones of fire

  • English Explanation: This verse addresses the King of Tyre (often interpreted as a dual prophecy reflecting the fall of Satan). His extensive trade and material wealth led to widespread corruption, greed, and violence. Because of this spiritual pollution, God strips him of his sacred status, casting him out of His holy presence (“the mountain of God”) and stripping him of his exalted position as a covering cherub.

Ezekiel 28:17

Verse: Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness I will cast thee to the ground I will lay thee before kings that they may behold thee

  • English Explanation: Pride was the ultimate cause of the ruin. The king became arrogant due to his physical beauty and splendor, which in turn twisted and corrupted his wisdom. As a divine consequence, God promises to humble him completely—bringing him down to earth to serve as a stark warning to other earthly rulers.

  • Urdu Explanation: غرور اس کی بربادی کی اصل وجہ بنا۔ وہ اپنی خوبصورتی اور شان و شوکت کی وجہ سے تکبر میں مبتلا ہو گیا جس نے اس کی عقل اور حکمت کو بگاڑ دیا۔ خدا نے اسے ذلیل کر کے زمین پر گرا دیا تاکہ دوسرے بادشاہ اس کے انجام سے عبرت حاصل کریں۔

Ezekiel 28:18

Verse: Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities by the iniquity of thy traffick therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee it shall devour thee and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee

  • English Explanation: The continuous dishonesty in trade and accumulation of sins defiled even his sacred places. God declares that the judgment will come from within—a consuming fire will emerge to reduce him to ashes right in front of those who used to look up to him.

  • Urdu Explanation: ناجائز تجارت اور گناہوں کی کثرت نے اس کی پاک جگہوں کو بھی ناپاک کر دیا۔ خدا فرماتا ہے کہ اس کی تباہی خود اس کے اندر سے شروع ہوگی (ایک آگ نکلے گی) جو اسے راکھ کا ڈھیر بنا دے گی اور سب لوگ اس کا عبرتناک انجام دیکھیں گے۔

Ezekiel 28:19

Verse: All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee thou shalt be a terror and never shalt thou be any more

  • English Explanation: The fall of this magnificent power will leave surrounding nations completely shocked and terrified. The utter destruction is final; the prideful empire and its ruler will never rise to power again.

  • Urdu Explanation: جو قومیں اس کی عظمت سے واقف تھیں وہ اس کے اچانک زوال پر دنگ رہ جائیں گی۔ وہ دوسروں کے لیے خوف کی علامت بن جائے گا اور اس کا نام و نشان ہمیشہ کے لیے مٹ جائے گا۔

Ezekiel 28:20

Verse: Again the word of the LORD came unto me saying

  • English Explanation: A transitional verse indicating a shift in the divine prophetic message. God speaks to Ezekiel once more to introduce a new target of judgment.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہ ایک منتقلی کی آیت ہے جہاں خدا دوبارہ حزقی ایل سے مخاطب ہوتا ہے تاکہ ایک نیا کلام اور نبوت نازل فرمائے۔

Ezekiel 28:21

Verse: Son of man set thy face against Zidon and prophesy against it

  • English Explanation: God commands Ezekiel to turn his attention toward Sidon (Zidon), a neighboring Phoenician city closely allied with Tyre in paganism and hostility toward Israel, and to proclaim judgment against it.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا حزقی ایل کو حکم دیتا ہے کہ وہ اپنا رخ صیدا (ایک بت پرست شہر جو اسرائیل کا مخالف تھا) کی طرف کرے اور اس کے خلاف تباہی کی پیشین گوئی کرے۔

Ezekiel 28:22

Verse: And say Thus saith the Lord GOD Behold I am against thee O Zidon and I will be glorified in the midst of thee and they shall know that I am the LORD when I shall have executed judgments in her and shall be sanctified in her

  • English Explanation: God openly declares opposition to Sidon. Through executing justice and punishing her corruption, God will demonstrate His absolute holiness and sovereign power, forcing the nations to recognize Him as the ultimate Lord.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا صیدا کے خلاف اپنی ناراضگی کا اظہار کرتا ہے۔ جب خدا اس پر اپنی عدالت اور سزا نازل کرے گا، تو اس کے ذریعے خدا کا جلال ظاہر ہوگا اور لوگوں پر عیاں ہوگا کہ سچا خدا کون ہے۔

Ezekiel 28:23

Verse: For I will send into her pestilence and blood into her streets and the wounded shall be judged in the midst of her by the sword upon her on every side and they shall know that I am the LORD

  • English Explanation: The judgment on Sidon will manifest through deadly diseases (pestilence) and warfare (the sword). The city will be surrounded and overwhelmed by conflict, reinforcing the ultimate realization of God’s supreme authority.

  • Urdu Explanation: صیدا پر بیماریوں اور جنگ کی صورت میں عذاب آئے گا۔ شہر کی گلیوں میں خون بہے گا اور وہ ہر طرف سے دشمن کی تلوار کے گھیرے میں ہوگا تاکہ وہ جان لیں کہ رب ہی خدا ہے۔

Ezekiel 28:24

Verse: And there shall be no more a pricking brier unto the house of Israel nor any grieving thorn of all that are round about them that despised them and they shall know that I am the Lord GOD

  • English Explanation: Historically, neighboring nations like Sidon and Tyre constantly harassed Israel like “briers” and “thorns.” God promises that once these hostile neighbors are judged, Israel will no longer suffer from their contempt and malicious behavior.

  • Urdu Explanation: اسرائیل کے پڑوسی ممالک ہمیشہ ان کے لیے کانٹے کی طرح چبتے رہے ہیں۔ خدا وعدہ کرتا ہے کہ ان ظالم پڑوسیوں کی تباہی کے بعد اسرائیل کو ان کی نفرت اور تحقیر سے نجات مل جائے گی۔

Ezekiel 28:25

Verse: Thus saith the Lord GOD When I shall have gathered the house of Israel from the people among whom they are scattered and shall be sanctified in them in the sight of the heathen then shall they dwell in their land that I have given to my servant Jacob

  • English Explanation: A beautiful promise of restoration. God covenants to gather His scattered people from exile back to the promised land given to Jacob. In doing so, God reveals His faithfulness and holiness to the entire world.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہاں اسرائیل کی بحالی کا وعدہ ہے۔ خدا فرماتا ہے کہ وہ اپنے بکھرے ہوئے لوگوں کو دوبارہ جمع کرے گا اور انہیں ان کی اپنی سرزمین پر واپس لائے گا جو یعقوب کو دی گئی تھی تاکہ غیر قومیں خدا کی پاکیزگی اور سچائی کو دیکھیں۔

Ezekiel 28:26

Verse: And they shall dwell safely therein and shall build houses and plant vineyards yea they shall dwell with confidence when I have executed judgments upon all those that despise them round about them and they shall know that I am the LORD their God

  • English Explanation: After the neighboring enemies are dealt with, Israel will enjoy a period of safety, stability, and agricultural prosperity. They will build homes and plant vineyards in complete peace, secure in the knowledge that Yahweh is their protector.

  • Urdu Explanation: دشمنوں کے خاتمے کے بعد، اسرائیلی امن و سکون سے زندگی بسر کریں گے۔ وہ اپنے گھر بنائیں گے اور انگور کے باغ لگائیں گے اور انہیں کسی کا خوف نہیں ہوگا کیونکہ خدا ان کا محافظ ہوگا۔

Ezekiel Chapter 29 (Verses 1–11)

Ezekiel 29:1

Verse: In the tenth year in the tenth month in the twelfth day of the month the word of the LORD came unto me saying

  • English Explanation: This opens a new prophetic section specifically targeting Egypt. Ezekiel provides a precise historical date for this vision, which falls during the final siege of Jerusalem by Babylon.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہاں سے مصر کے خلاف پیشین گوئیوں کا آغاز ہوتا ہے۔ حزقی ایل اس رویا کی ایک درست تاریخی تاریخ فراہم کرتا ہے جو یروشلم کے محاصرے کے دوران کی ہے۔

Ezekiel 29:2

Verse: Son of man set thy face against Pharaoh king of Egypt and prophesy against him and against all Egypt

  • English Explanation: God commands the prophet to directly confront Pharaoh, the supreme ruler of Egypt, and deliver a harsh message of impending doom over the entire Egyptian nation.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا حزقی ایل کو حکم دیتا ہے کہ وہ مصر کے فرعون اور پورے ملک مصر کے خلاف غضب کی پیشین گوئی کرے۔

Ezekiel 29:3

Verse: Speak and say Thus saith the Lord GOD Behold I am against thee Pharaoh king of Egypt the great dragon that lieth in the midst of his rivers which hath said My river is mine own and I have made it for myself

  • English Explanation: Pharaoh is metaphorically described as a “great dragon” (or crocodile) lounging arrogantly in the Nile River. His supreme sin is hubris—claiming ownership over the Nile and declaring himself its creator, completely ignoring God’s sovereignty.

  • Urdu Explanation: فرعون کو تشبیہ کے طور پر دریائے نیل کا ایک بڑا مگرمچھ (اژدہا) کہا گیا ہے۔ اس کا سب سے بڑا گناہ اس کا غرور تھا کہ وہ دریائے نیل کو اپنی ملکیت اور اپنی تخلیق سمجھتا تھا اور خدا کی حاکمیت سے منکر تھا۔

Ezekiel 29:4

Verse: But I will put hooks in thy jaws and I will cause the fish of thy rivers to stick unto thy scales and I will bring thee up out of the midst of thy rivers and all the fish of thy rivers shall stick unto thy scales

  • English Explanation: God counters Pharaoh’s arrogance with vivid imagery. He will hook the proud “crocodile” by the jaws, dragging him out of his safe waters along with the “fish” (the citizens and dependent allies of Egypt) who cling to him.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا فرعون کے تکبر کا جواب دیتے ہوئے فرماتا ہے کہ وہ اس کے جبڑوں میں کنڈے ڈال کر اسے دریا سے باہر کھینچ لائے گا اور اس کے ساتھ اس کے ساتھیوں (مچھلیوں) کو بھی برباد کر دے گا۔

Ezekiel 29:5

Verse: And I will leave thee thrown into the wilderness thee and all the fish of thy rivers thou shalt fall upon the open fields thou shalt not be brought together nor gathered I have given thee for meat to the beasts of the field and to the fowls of the heaven

  • English Explanation: Stripped of his watery stronghold, Pharaoh and his army will be left helpless in the desert. They will receive no proper burial; instead, their carcasses will be abandoned to scavenger birds and wild animals.

  • Urdu Explanation: فرعون اور اس کے لشکر کو بیابان میں بے یار و مددگار چھوڑ دیا جائے گا۔ انہیں دفن نصیب نہیں ہوگا بلکہ ان کی لاشیں پرندوں اور جنگلی جانوروں کی خوراک بنیں گی۔

Ezekiel 29:6

Verse: And all the inhabitants of Egypt shall know that I am the LORD because they have been a staff of reed to the house of Israel

  • English Explanation: Egypt’s downfall will prove God’s authority. The specific reason for judgment is that Egypt acted as a “staff of reed” to Israel—an untrustworthy, fragile ally that splintered whenever Israel tried to lean on them for military support.

  • Urdu Explanation: مصر کا زوال خدا کی قدرت کو ثابت کرے گا۔ سزا کی وجہ یہ تھی کہ مصر نے اسرائیل کے لیے “سرکنڈے کے لاٹھی” کا کام کیا یعنی ایک ایسا کمزور سہارا جو وقت پڑنے پر ٹوٹ گیا۔

Ezekiel 29:7

Verse: When they took hold of thee by thy hand thou didst break and rend all their shoulder and when they leaned upon thee thou brakest and madest all their loins to be at a stand

  • English Explanation: Continuing the reed metaphor, God highlights Egypt’s betrayal. When Israel relied on Egyptian alliances against Babylon, Egypt collapsed under the pressure, leaving Israel fractured, physically exposed, and paralyzed in crisis.

  • Urdu Explanation: جب اسرائیل نے مدد کے لیے مصر کا سہارا لیا، تو مصر دباؤ برداشت نہ کر سکا اور ٹوٹ گیا جس سے اسرائیل کو شدید نقصان پہنچا اور وہ بحران کا شکار ہو گئے۔

Ezekiel 29:8

Verse: Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD Behold I will bring a sword upon thee and cut off man and beast out of thee

  • English Explanation: Due to their historical arrogance and deceitful alliances, God sentences Egypt to military invasion (the sword), which will devastate both human populations and livestock across the empire.

  • Urdu Explanation: اس دھوکے اور تکبر کی وجہ سے خدا فرماتا ہے کہ وہ مصر پر جنگ (تلوار) مسلط کرے گا جو وہاں کے انسانوں اور حیوانوں دونوں کو ختم کر دے گی۔

Ezekiel 29:9

Verse: And the land of Egypt shall be desolate and waste and they shall know that I am the LORD because he hath said The river is mine and I have made it

  • English Explanation: Egypt will be transformed into a barren wasteland. God reemphasizes that this harsh penalty is a direct response to Pharaoh’s blasphemous claim of being the owner and creator of the Nile River.

  • Urdu Explanation: مصر کا ملک ویران اور برباد ہو جائے گا۔ خدا دوبارہ یاد دلاتا ہے کہ یہ سزا فرعون کے اس کفریہ دعوے کی وجہ سے ہے کہ دریا اس کا ہے اور اسی نے اسے بنایا ہے۔

Ezekiel 29:10

Verse: Behold therefore I am against thee and against thy rivers and I will make the land of Egypt utterly waste and desolate from the tower of Syene even unto the border of Ethiopia

  • English Explanation: God formally declares war against Egypt’s geography and natural resources. The complete destruction will span the entire length of the country, from its northernmost boundary (the tower of Syene/Aswan) down to the southern border of Ethiopia.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا مصر اور اس کے وسائل کے خلاف جنگ کا اعلان کرتا ہے۔ یہ مکمل تباہی ملک کے ایک کونے (سیونے کے برج) سے لے کر دوسرے کونے (ایتھوپیا کی سرحد) تک پھیلے گی۔

Ezekiel 29:11

Verse: No foot of man shall pass through it nor foot of beast shall pass through it neither shall it be inhabited forty years

  • English Explanation: The severity of the judgment will render Egypt entirely desolate. For a symbolic period of forty years, the nation will see no human commerce, no animal movement, and no active habitation, serving out its sentence of divine isolation.

  • Urdu Explanation: اس سخت سزا کی وجہ سے مصر مکمل طور پر سنسان ہو جائے گا۔ چالیس سال کے عرصے تک وہاں نہ کوئی انسان گزرے گا اور نہ کوئی جانور، اور وہ ملک بالکل غیر آباد رہے گا۔
