Genesis Chapter 14: The Rescue and the Blessing

Verse: And they took Lot Abram’s brother’s son who dwelt in Sodom and his goods and departed

Urdu Explanation: سدوم کی ہار کے بعد حملہ آوروں نے لوط (ابرام کے بھتیجے) کو اس کے مال و اسباب سمیت قیدی بنا لیا۔ یہ لوط کے سدوم میں رہنے کے خطرناک فیصلے کو ظاہر کرتا ہے۔

Verse: And there came one that had escaped and told Abram the Hebrew for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite brother of Eschol and brother of Aner and these were confederate with Abram

English Explanation: A survivor reports the news to Abram. We see Abram as a “Hebrew” living peacefully with allies (Mamre, Eschol, and Aner).

Verse: And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive he armed his trained servants born in his own house three hundred and eighteen and pursued them unto Dan

English Explanation: Abram acts decisively, mobilizing 318 trained men from his own household to rescue his kinsman.

Urdu Explanation: جب ابرام نے سنا کہ اس کا رشتہ دار قید ہو گیا ہے، تو اس نے اپنے گھر کے 318 تربیت یافتہ خادموں کو لیا اور دشمن کا دان تک پیچھا کیا۔

Verse: And he divided himself against them he and his servants by night and smote them and pursued them unto Hobah which is on the left hand of Damascus

English Explanation: Abram uses military strategy, attacking at night to defeat the superior northern forces.

Urdu Explanation: ابرام نے رات کے وقت حکمت عملی سے حملہ کیا اور دشمن کو شکست دے کر انہیں دمشق کے قریب حوبہ تک بھگا دیا۔

Verse: And he brought back all the goods and also brought again his brother Lot and his goods and the women also and the people

Verse: And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer and of the kings that were with him at the valley of Shaveh which is the king’s dale

Verse: And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine and he was the priest of the most high God

Verse: And he blessed him and said Blessed be Abram of the most high God possessor of heaven and earth

English Explanation: Melchizedek pronounces a blessing on Abram from the Creator.

Urdu Explanation: اس نے ابرام کو برکت دی اور کہا کہ قادرِ مطلق خدا کی طرف سے ابرام مبارک ہو۔

Verse: And blessed be the most high God which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand And he gave him tithes of all

English Explanation: Abram gives a tenth (tithe) of the spoils to Melchizedek, recognizing God’s role in the victory.

Verse: And the king of Sodom said unto Abram Give me the persons and take the goods to thyself

Urdu Explanation: سدوم کے بادشاہ نے ابرام سے کہا کہ لوگ مجھے دے دو اور مال تم رکھ لو۔

Verse: And Abram said to the king of Sodom I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD the most high God the possessor of heaven and earth That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet and that I will not take any thing that is thine lest thou shouldest say I have made Abram rich

English Explanation: Abram refuses the reward so that no man could claim credit for his wealth; only God should be glorified.

Urdu Explanation: ابرام نے انکار کر دیا تاکہ سدوم کا بادشاہ یہ نہ کہہ سکے کہ اس نے ابرام کو امیر بنایا۔ وہ صرف خدا پر بھروسہ کرنا چاہتا تھا۔

Verse: Save only that which the young men have eaten and the portion of the men which went with me Aner Eshcol and Mamre let them take their portion

English Explanation: Abram ensures his allies are compensated, even though he personally takes nothing.

Genesis Chapter 15: The Covenant of Faith

Verse: After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision saying Fear not Abram I am thy shield and thy exceeding great reward

English Explanation: God reassures Abram of protection and divine compensation.

Urdu Explanation: خدا نے رویا میں ابرام کو تسلی دی کہ “خوف نہ کر، میں تیری سپر اور تیرا بڑا اجر ہوں۔”

Verse: And behold the word of the LORD came unto him saying This shall not be thine heir but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir… Look now toward heaven and tell the stars… So shall thy seed be

English Explanation: God promises a biological son and descendants as numerous as the stars.

Urdu Explanation: خدا نے وعدہ کیا کہ تیری اپنی نسل سے وارث پیدا ہوگا اور تیری اولاد ستاروں کی مانند ان گنت ہوگی۔

Verse: And he believed in the LORD and he counted it to him for righteousness

English Explanation: One of the most important verses in the Bible: Faith in God’s word is what makes a person righteous.

Urdu Explanation: ابرام نے خدا پر ایمان لایا اور خدا نے اس کے ایمان کو راستبازی گنا۔

Verse: And he said unto him I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees to give thee this land to inherit it… whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it

Verse: …behold a smoking furnace and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces… In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram…

English Explanation: God alone passes through the pieces, signifying that He takes total responsibility for keeping the covenant. He defines the geographic boundaries of the land.

Urdu Explanation: خدا نے آگ کے شعلے کی صورت میں قربانی کے حصوں کے درمیان سے گزر کر خود یہ عہد پورا کرنے کی ذمہ داری لی اور زمین کی حدود بیان کیں۔
Genesis Chapter 16: Human Effort vs. Divine Promise

Verse: Now Sarai Abram’s wife bare him no children and she had an handmaid an Egyptian whose name was Hagar
-
English Explanation: Despite the promise, Sarai remains barren and introduces Hagar, an Egyptian maid, as a human solution to their problem.

Urdu Explanation: سارای کے ہاں اولاد نہ تھی، اس لیے اس نے اپنی مصری لونڈی ہاجرہ کو پیش کیا تاکہ انسانی کوشش سے وارث حاصل کیا جا سکے۔
