John 12:25

Verse: He that loveth his life shall lose it and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal

  • English Explanation: Jesus presents a powerful spiritual paradox about detachment from worldly existence. Loving one’s life implies a selfish obsession with earthly comfort, security, and material desires, which ultimately leads to spiritual ruin. Conversely, “hating” one’s life does not mean self-loathing; rather, it means prioritizing God’s kingdom so completely that earthly existence takes a back seat. True, everlasting life is found only when we surrender our worldly ambitions to God.

  • Urdu Explanation: یسوع مسیح یہاں ایک گہرا روحانی سچ بیان کر رہے ہیں کہ جو کوئی دنیاوی آسائشوں اور اپنی خود غرضانہ زندگی سے محبت رکھتا ہے وہ اپنی روحانی زندگی کو کھو دے گا۔ لیکن جو کوئی خدا کی بادشاہی کی خاطر اس دنیا کی فانی زندگی کو ہیچ سمجھتا ہے وہ ابدی زندگی کو پا لے گا۔ اصل زندگی خود کو خدا کی مرضی کے سپرد کرنے میں ہے۔

John 12:26

Verse: If any man serve me let him follow me and where I am there shall also my servant be if any man serve me him will my Father honour

Jesus promises that those who walk in His footsteps will enjoy intimate fellowship with Him in glory.   • Urdu Explanation: مسیح کی سچی خدمت کا مطلب ان کے نقشِ قدم پر چلنا ہے۔ جو کوئی یسوع کے پیچھے چلتا ہے وہ دکھوں اور قربانیوں میں بھی ان کا شریک ہوتا ہے۔ یسوع وعدہ کرتے ہیں کہ ان کا خادم ہمیشہ ان کے ساتھ رہے گا اور خدا تعالیٰ ایسے وفادار خادموں کو عزت و سرفرازی بخشے گا۔

John 12:27

Verse: Now is my soul troubled and what shall I say Father save me from this hour but for this cause came I unto this hour

John 12:28

Verse: Father glorify thy name Then came there a voice from heaven saying I have both glorified it and will glorify it again

God responds directly from heaven, confirming that His name has been glorified through Jesus’ past ministry and miracles, and will be glorified supreme once more through the upcoming crucifixion and resurrection.

John 12:29

Verse: The people therefore that stood by and heard it said that it thundered others said An angel spake to him

Lacking deep spiritual perception, some dismissed the divine utterance as a natural phenomenon (thunder), while others recognized its supernatural origin but assumed it was merely an angel rather than God Himself speaking.

  • Urdu Explanation: آسمانی آواز پر ہجوم کا ردِعمل ان کی روحانی کمزوری کو ظاہر کرتا ہے۔ کچھ لوگوں نے اس الٰہی آواز کو بادل کی گرج سمجھا جبکہ دوسروں نے محسوس کیا کہ یہ کوئی غیر معمولی بات ہے مگر انہوں نے اسے خدا کی بجائے کسی فرشتے کی کلام سمجھا۔

John 12:30

Verse: Jesus answered and said This voice came not because of me but for your sakes

  • English Explanation: Jesus clarifies that He did not need the audible voice of heaven to reassure Him, as His communion with the Father was already perfect. The voice was permitted by God as a sign for the benefit of the bystanders, intended to confirm Jesus’ divine authority and strengthen their faith.

  • Urdu Explanation: یسوع وضاحت کرتے ہیں کہ انہیں اپنے ایمان کے لیے اس آواز کی ضرورت نہیں تھی کیونکہ ان کا باپ کے ساتھ کامل تعلق تھا۔ یہ آواز وہاں موجود لوگوں کی خاطر سنائی گئی تاکہ وہ یسوع کی الٰہی حیثیت پر ایمان لا سکیں اور ان کے معجزات کی سچائی کو سمجھیں۔

John 12:31

Verse: Now is the judgment of this world now shall the prince of this world be cast out

Through the cross, the ultimate hold of evil and sin over humanity is broken, stripping the adversary of his spiritual authority.

  • Urdu Explanation: یسوع اعلان کرتے ہیں کہ اب دنیا کی عدالت کا وقت آ گیا ہے اور اس دنیا کا سردار (شیطان) شکست خوردہ ہو کر باہر نکالا جائے گا۔ صلیب پر یسوع کی قربانی گناہ اور بدی کی طاقتوں کو ہمیشہ کے لیے ختم کرنے کا باعث بنی۔

John 12:32

Verse: And I if I be lifted up from the earth will draw all men unto me

  • English Explanation: Being “lifted up” has a dual meaning: it points literally to Jesus being elevated on the cross, and spiritually to His exaltation through the resurrection and ascension. This act of sacrificial love serves as a universal magnet, drawing people of all nations and backgrounds away from sin and toward salvation in Him.

  • Urdu Explanation: “زمین سے اونچے اٹھائے جانے” کا مطلب ایک طرف صلیب پر لٹکایا جانا ہے اور دوسری طرف قیامت اور صعودِ آسمانی کے ذریعے سرفراز ہونا ہے۔ یسوع کی یہ قربانی ایک مقناطیس کی طرح تمام قوموں کے لوگوں کو اپنی طرف راغب کرے گی تاکہ وہ نجات پا سکیں۔

John 12:33

Verse: This he said signifying what death he should die

  • English Explanation: The Evangelist John inserts this editorial note to ensure readers understand the specific prophetic nature of Jesus’ words. “Lifted up” was a direct prediction that He would die by crucifixion (a Roman method where the victim is raised on a cross) rather than stoning.

John 12:34

Verse: The people answered him We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever and how sayest thou The Son of man must be lifted up who is this Son of man

  • English Explanation: The crowd is confused by their traditional understanding of Old Testament prophecies. They expected the Messiah to be an earthly, immortal conqueror who would rule forever. They cannot reconcile a triumphant “Son of man” with someone who must suffer and be put to death, leading them to question Jesus’ true identity.

  • Urdu Explanation: لوگ اپنی روایتی سوچ کے باعث الجھن کا شکار ہو گئے۔ وہ پرانے عہد نامے کی پیشگوئیوں کے مطابق مسیح کو ایک ایسا بادشاہ سمجھتے تھے جو کبھی نہیں مرے گا۔ وہ یہ قبول نہیں کر پا رہے تھے کہ “ابنِ آدم” کو دکھ اٹھا کر مرنا ہوگا اس لیے وہ یسوع کی پہچان پر سوال کرتے ہیں۔

John 12:35

Verse: Then Jesus said unto them Yet a little while is the light with you Walk while ye have the light lest darkness come upon you for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth

  • English Explanation: Rather than engaging in a complex theological debate, Jesus urges immediate action. He warns them that His earthly presence—the ultimate spiritual Light—is temporary. He exhorts them to embrace the truth and live righteously before spiritual blindness and judgment (darkness) overtake them.

John 12:36

Verse: While ye have light believe in the light that ye may be the children of light These things spake Jesus and departed and did hide himself from them

  • English Explanation: Jesus gives a final invitation to put faith in Him, the Light, so that His followers might reflect His divine character as “children of light.” Following this urgent appeal, He withdraws from public view, symbolizing the impending removal of His light from an unbelieving generation.

  • Urdu Explanation: یسوع آخری بار دعوت دیتے ہیں کہ ان پر ایمان لا کر “نور کے فرزند” بن جائیں۔ اس کے بعد یسوع ان کے درمیان سے چلے جاتے ہیں اور خود کو چھپا لیتے ہیں جو اس بات کی علامت ہے کہ منکر قوم سے اب وہ نور چھپنے والا ہے۔

John 12:37

Verse: But though he had done so many miracles before them yet they believed not on him

  • English Explanation: This verse highlights the profound tragedy of human stubbornness. Despite witnessing numerous undeniable signs and supernatural miracles performed by Jesus right before their eyes, the hearts of the majority remained hardened, and they willfully rejected His divine identity.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہ آیت انسانی ہٹ دھرمی کے المیے کو بیان کرتی ہے۔ یسوع نے لوگوں کے سامنے بے شمار عظیم معجزات دکھائے جن سے ان کی الٰہی قدرت ظاہر تھی لیکن اس کے باوجود اکثریت نے اپنے دلوں کو سخت رکھا اور ان پر ایمان نہ لائے۔

John 12:38

Verse: That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled which he spake Lord who hath believed our report and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed

  • English Explanation: The pervasive unbelief of the people did not catch God by surprise; it actually fulfilled ancient prophecy. John quotes Isaiah 53:1 to show that prophets predicted that the Messiah’s message (“our report”) would be widely rejected and that God’s saving power (“the arm of the Lord”) would go unrecognized by many.

John 12:39

Verse: Therefore they could not believe because that Esaias said again

Because the people repeatedly chose to close their minds to Jesus, they reached a point where they could no longer believe, fulfilling further prophetic warnings.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہاں ایک گہرے روحانی سچ کی طرف اشارہ ہے کہ جب انسان مسلسل سچائی کا انکار کرتا ہے تو وہ ایمان لانے کی صلاحیت سے محروم ہو جاتا ہے۔ چونکہ انہوں نے بار بار سچائی کو رد کیا اس لیے وہ ایمان نہ لا سکے۔

John 12:40

Verse: He hath blinded their eyes and hardened their heart that they should not see with their eyes nor understand with their heart and be converted and I should heal them

  • Explanation: Quoting Isaiah 6:10, this passage explains judicial hardening. When people persistently reject the light, God confirms them in their chosen path of disobedience. As a consequence of their own stubborn choices, their spiritual senses are dulled, preventing repentance and divine healing.

  • Urdu Explanation: یسعیاہ 6:10 کا حوالہ دیتے ہوئے بتایا گیا ہے کہ جب لوگ مسلسل خدا کے نور کو رد کرتے ہیں تو سزا کے طور پر ان کی آنکھیں اندھی اور دل سخت کر دیے جاتے ہیں تاکہ وہ نہ سچائی کو دیکھ سکیں اور نہ سمجھ کر توبہ کی طرف مائل ہوں اور شفا پائیں۔

John 12:41

Verse: These things said Esaias when he saw his glory and spake of him

  • English Explanation: John explicitly connects the Old Testament with Christ, stating that when Isaiah experienced his magnificent vision of God in the temple (Isaiah 6), he was actually witnessing the pre-incarnate glory of Jesus Christ and speaking prophetically about Him.

  • Urdu Explanation: رسول یوحنا واضح کرتے ہیں کہ جب یسعیاہ نبی نے ہیکل میں خدا کے جلال کا رویا دیکھا تھا (یسعیاہ باب 6) تو دراصل انہوں نے زمین پر آنے سے پہلے کے مسیح کے جلال کو دیکھا تھا اور ان ہی کے بارے میں نبوت کی تھی۔

John 12:42

Verse: Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him lest they should be put out of the synagogue

  • English Explanation: Even among the Jewish ruling class, many were intellectually convinced of Jesus’ identity. However, they lacked true saving faith because fear of social ostracization gripped them. They refused to confess Jesus publicly out of fear that the Pharisees would excommunicate them from the synagogue.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہودی رہنماؤں میں سے بھی بہت سے لوگ دل میں یسوع کی سچائی کے قائل ہو چکے تھے لیکن ان میں اعلانیہ اقرار کی ہمت نہیں تھی۔ وہ فریسیوں کے خوف اور سماجی بائیکاٹ (عبادت گاہ سے نکالے جانے) کے ڈر سے اپنے ایمان کو چھپاتے تھے۔

John 12:43

Verse: For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God

  • English Explanation: This verse diagnoses the root cause of superficial or hidden faith. These leaders valued human approval, social status, and societal prestige far more than they valued the approval and commendation of God, proving that their hearts were still bound to worldly pride.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہ آیت خفیہ ایمان رکھنے والوں کی اصل کمزوری کو ظاہر کرتی ہے۔ وہ خدا کی رضا اور اس کی طرف سے ملنے والی تعریف کے مقابلے میں انسانوں کی خوشنودی اور معاشرتی مرتبے کو زیادہ عزیز رکھتے تھے۔

John 12:44

Verse: Jesus cried and said He that believeth on me believeth not on me but on him that sent me

  • English Explanation: In a passionate public proclamation, Jesus emphasizes His absolute unity with the Father. To place faith in Jesus is not an alternative to believing in God; rather, it is the ultimate expression of faith in God the Father who commissioned and sent Him.

  • Urdu Explanation: یسوع نے پکار کر کہا کہ جو مجھ پر ایمان لاتا ہے وہ دراصل مجھ پر نہیں بلکہ اس خدا پر ایمان لاتا ہے جس نے مجھے بھیجا ہے۔ یسوع پر ایمان لانا خدا کی حاکمیت کو تسلیم کرنا ہے۔

John 12:45

Verse: And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me

  • English Explanation: Jesus claims a perfect revelation of the divine nature. He is the visible image of the invisible God. Anyone who truly perceives His character, His love, His holiness, and His deeds is directly beholding the nature and heart of God the Father.

  • Urdu Explanation: یسوع یہ دعویٰ کرتے ہیں کہ وہ خدا کی ذات کا کامل مظہر ہیں۔ جو کوئی ایمان کی آنکھ سے یسوع کے کردار، ان کی محبت اور ان کے کاموں کو دیکھتا ہے، وہ دراصل بھیجنے والے خدا ہی کا جلوہ دیکھتا ہے۔

John 12:46

Verse: I am come a light into the world that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness

  • English Explanation: Jesus reiterates His mission as the source of spiritual illumination. The world is naturally engulfed in the darkness of sin, ignorance, and despair. Faith in Jesus acts as the definitive rescue mechanism, ensuring that believers are delivered from this darkness and live in permanent divine truth.

  • Urdu Explanation: یسوع دوبارہ اپنی آمد کے مقصد کو دہراتے ہیں کہ وہ دنیا میں نور بن کر آئے ہیں تاکہ گناہ، جہالت اور ناامیدی کی تاریکی میں بھٹکنے والے انسان ان پر ایمان لا کر ہمیشہ کے لیے اس تاریکی سے نجات پا جائیں۔

John 12:47

Verse: And if any man hear my words and believe not I judge him not for I came not to judge the world but to save the world

  • English Explanation: During His first advent, Jesus’ primary objective was salvation and grace, not condemnation. If someone hears His words and rejects them, Jesus does not execute immediate judgment upon them, because the overarching goal of His earthly mission was to provide a gateway to rescue the lost world.

  • Urdu Explanation: یسوع فرماتے ہیں کہ اگر کوئی میری باتیں سن کر بھی عمل نہ کرے تو میں ابھی اس پر سزا کا حکم نہیں دیتا۔ کیونکہ ان کی پہلی آمد کا مقصد دنیا پر سزا کا حکم لانا نہیں بلکہ گناہگاروں کو نجات کی راہ دکھانا تھا۔

John 12:48

Verse: He that rejecteth me and receiveth not my words hath one that judgeth him the word that I have spoken the same shall judge him in the last day

  • English Explanation: While Jesus does not execute immediate judgment, accountability is inevitable. The divine truths and words He spoke carry inherent authority. Those who willfully reject His message will find that very same rejected truth acting as the ultimate standard of accusation and condemnation against them on Judgment Day.

  • Urdu Explanation: اگرچہ فوری سزا نہیں ملتی مگر جوابدہی برحق ہے۔ جو کوئی یسوع اور ان کے کلام کو دانستہ رد کرتا ہے، وہی کلام جس کا اس نے انکار کیا، قیامت کے دن اس کے خلاف گواہ اور عدالت کا معیار بنے گا۔

John 12:49

Verse: For I have not spoken of myself but the Father which sent me he gave me a commandment what I should say and what I should speak

  • English Explanation: Jesus establishes the absolute authority of His teachings by declaring that they do not originate from human philosophy or self-will. He speaks in perfect obedience to the Father, delivering the exact message, instructions, and commandments entrusted to Him by God.

  • Urdu Explanation: یسوع اپنے کلام کی الٰہی سند پیش کرتے ہوئے کہتے ہیں کہ وہ اپنی طرف سے کچھ نہیں کہہ رہے، بلکہ یہ تمام تعلیمات اور احکام براہِ راست اس خدا کی طرف سے ہیں جس نے انہیں بھیجا اور حکم دیا کہ کیا کہنا ہے۔

John 12:50

Verse: And I know that his commandment is life everlasting whatsoever I speak therefore even as the Father said unto me so I speak

Recognizing this magnificent goal, Jesus speaks with absolute precision, conveying the Father’s words exactly as they were given, ensuring that listeners receive the true path to life eternal.

  • Urdu Explanation: یسوع بات کو ختم کرتے ہوئے فرماتے ہیں کہ خدا کے احکام کا اصل مقصد انسان کو ابدی زندگی دینا ہے۔ اسی لیے وہ بغیر کسی تبدیلی کے ہو بہو وہی باتیں بیان کرتے ہیں جو باپ نے ان سے فرمائیں تاکہ سننے والے ابدی زندگی پا سکیں۔

John 13:1

Verse: Now before the feast of the passover when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father having loved his own which were in the world he loved them unto the end

John 13:2

Verse: And supper being ended the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot Simon’s son to betray him

  • English Explanation: During the evening meal, a dark spiritual reality unfolds alongside the fellowship. Satan influences Judas Iscariot, instigating the betrayal of Jesus. This highlights the intense spiritual warfare taking place behind the historical events leading to the crucifixion.

  • Urdu Explanation: شام کے کھانے کے دوران جہاں ایک طرف رفاقت تھی، وہیں دوسری طرف شیطانی قوتیں سرگرم تھیں۔ شیطان نے یہوداہ اسکریوتی کے دل میں یسوع کو پکڑوانے کا ناپاک ارادہ ڈال دیا تھا، جو اس عظیم قربانی کے پسِ پردہ چلنے والی روحانی جنگ کو ظاہر کرتا ہے۔

John 13:3

Verse: Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands and that he was come from God and went to God

  • English Explanation: This verse emphasizes Jesus’ absolute divine authority, confidence, and identity right before His act of foot-washing. He possesses full awareness that the Father has granted Him supreme power over all creation, knowing exactly His divine origin from God and His imminent glorious return to God.

  • Urdu Explanation: یسوع مسیح کو اپنی الٰہی پہچان اور اختیارات کا کامل علم ہے۔ وہ جانتے ہیں کہ باپ نے سب کچھ ان کے ہاتھ میں سونپ دیا ہے اور وہ خدا کے پاس سے آئے ہیں اور واپس خدا ہی کے پاس جا رہے ہیں۔ اسی اعلیٰ مرتبے کے باوجود وہ خدمت گزاری کا نمونہ پیش کرتے ہیں۔

John 13:4

Verse: He riseth from supper and laid aside his garments and took a towel and girded himself

  • English Explanation: Fully conscious of His divine sovereignty, Jesus voluntarily assumes the posture of the lowest household servant. He stands up, lays aside His outer robe, wraps a towel around His waist, and prepares to wash His disciples’ feet.
