Joshua 10:12

Verse: Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel and he said in the sight of Israel Sun stand thou still upon Gibeon and thou Moon in the valley of Ajalon

  • English Explanation: In the heat of battle Joshua realizes he needs more daylight to complete the victory. Demonstrating immense faith he commands the celestial bodies to halt. This is not a magic spell but a bold prayer to God in front of all Israel.

  • Urdu Explanation: یشوع نے خدا پر کامل ایمان رکھتے ہوئے بنی اسرائیل کے سامنے سورج اور چاند کو تھم جانے کا حکم دیا تاکہ دشمنوں پر فتح مکمل ہو سکے۔ یہ ان کے غیر متزلزل ایمان کا ثبوت تھا۔


Joshua 10:13

Verse: And the sun stood still and the moon stayed until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies Is not this written in the book of Jasher So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven and hasted not to go down about a whole day

  • English Explanation: God answers the prayer by suspending the natural laws of the universe. The sun remained visible for approximately an additional 24 hours allowing Israel to finish the pursuit of the Amorites.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا نے یشوع کی دعا سنی اور سورج تقریباً ایک پورے دن تک نہیں ڈھلا۔ یہ معجزہ بنی اسرائیل کو اپنے دشمنوں سے بدلہ لینے کا موقع فراہم کرنے کے لیے کیا گیا۔


Joshua 10:14

Verse: And there was no day like that before it or after it that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man for the LORD fought for Israel

  • English Explanation: This verse highlights the uniqueness of the event. While God listens to all prayers this specific instance of God altering the cosmos at a human’s request underscored that He was personally fighting for His people.

  • Urdu Explanation: تاریخ میں ایسا دن نہ پہلے کبھی آیا اور نہ بعد میں جب خدا نے ایک انسان کی پکار پر کائنات کے نظام کو روک دیا کیونکہ خداوند خود اسرائیل کی طرف سے لڑ رہا تھا۔


Joshua 10:15

Verse: And Joshua returned and all Israel with him unto the camp to Gilgal

  • English Explanation: After the initial miraculous phase of the battle the army regrouped at their main base in Gilgal to prepare for the next steps of the campaign.

  • Urdu Explanation: ابتدائی معجزاتی فتح کے بعد یشوع اور تمام اسرائیلی فوج اپنے مرکزی پڑاؤ جلجال کی طرف واپس لوٹ آئے۔


Joshua 10:16

Verse: But these five kings fled and hid themselves in a cave at Makkedah

  • English Explanation: The five Amorite kings who led the alliance against Gibeon escaped the slaughter and sought refuge in a cave hoping to avoid capture.

  • Urdu Explanation: پانچوں اموری بادشاہ اپنی جان بچا کر بھاگے اور مکہادہ کے مقام پر ایک غار میں چھپ گئے۔


Joshua 10:17

Verse: And it was told Joshua saying The five kings are found hid in a cave at Makkedah

  • English Explanation: Intelligence reaches Joshua regarding the specific location of the enemy leaders. Their hiding place becomes their prison.

  • Urdu Explanation: یشوع کو اطلاع دی گئی کہ وہ پانچوں مفرور بادشاہ مکہادہ کے غار میں مل گئے ہیں۔


Joshua 10:18

Verse: And Joshua said Roll great stones upon the mouth of the cave and set men by it for to keep them

  • English Explanation: Joshua orders the cave to be sealed with heavy rocks and guarded. This ensured the kings couldn’t escape while the army dealt with the remaining enemy forces.

  • Urdu Explanation: یشوع نے حکم دیا کہ غار کے منہ پر بھاری پتھر رکھ دیے جائیں اور پہرے دار بٹھا دیے جائیں تاکہ بادشاہ فرار نہ ہو سکیں۔


Joshua 10:19

Verse: And stay ye not but pursue after your enemies and smite the hindmost of them suffer them not to enter into their cities for the LORD your God hath delivered them into your hand

  • English Explanation: Joshua commands his troops not to get distracted by the captured kings but to continue the pursuit of the fleeing soldiers to prevent them from reaching their fortified cities.

  • Urdu Explanation: یشوع نے اپنی فوج کو ہدایت کی کہ رکنے کے بجائے دشمن کا تعاقب جاری رکھیں اور انہیں ان کے شہروں میں داخل ہونے سے پہلے ختم کر دیں کیونکہ خدا نے انہیں اسرائیل کے قبضے میں دے دیا ہے۔


Joshua 10:20

Verse: And it came to pass when Joshua and the children of Israel had made an end of slaying them with a very great slaughter till they were consumed that the rest which remained of them entered into fenced cities

  • English Explanation: The Israelites executed a decisive blow. Most of the Amorite army was destroyed though a small remnant managed to flee back into their walled defenses.

  • Urdu Explanation: اسرائیل نے دشمن کا صفایا کر دیا اور ایک عظیم فتح حاصل کی۔ صرف چند بچ جانے والے لوگ ہی اپنے قلعہ بند شہروں میں پناہ لے سکے۔


Joshua 10:21

Verse: And all the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace none moved his tongue against any of the children of Israel

  • English Explanation: The victory was so absolute that no one dared to speak against or challenge Israel. The army returned safely to the temporary camp at Makkedah.

  • Urdu Explanation: پوری اسرائیلی فوج سلامتی کے ساتھ یشوع کے پاس مکہادہ واپس آئی اور کسی نے بھی بنی اسرائیل کے خلاف زبان کھولنے کی جرات نہ کی۔


Joshua 10:22

Verse: Then said Joshua Open the mouth of the cave and bring out those five kings unto me out of the cave

  • English Explanation: Once the immediate threat of the army was dealt with Joshua turned his attention to the captured leaders to finalize the judgment.

  • Urdu Explanation: دشمن کی فوج کے خاتمے کے بعد یشوع نے غار کھولنے اور ان پانچوں بادشاہوں کو باہر لانے کا حکم دیا۔


Joshua 10:23

Verse: And they did so and brought forth those five kings unto him out of the cave the king of Jerusalem the king of Hebron the king of Jarmuth the king of Lachish and the king of Eglon

  • English Explanation: This lists the leaders of the major city-states: Jerusalem Hebron Jarmuth Lachish and Eglon. Their capture symbolized the fall of the Southern Canaanite power structure.

  • Urdu Explanation: یروشلم حبرون یرموت لکیس اور عجلون کے پانچوں بادشاہ غار سے نکال کر یشوع کے سامنے لائے گئے۔


Joshua 10:24

Verse: And it came to pass when they brought out those kings unto Joshua that Joshua called for all the men of Israel and said unto the captains of the men of war which went with him Come near put your feet upon the necks of these kings And they came near and put their feet upon the necks of them

  • English Explanation: Putting feet on the necks of enemies was a standard ancient Near Eastern symbol of total victory and subjugation. It served to boost the morale of the Israelite captains.

  • Urdu Explanation: یشوع نے اپنے سرداروں کو بلا کر ان بادشاہوں کی گردنوں پر پاؤں رکھنے کو کہا جو کہ مکمل فتح اور دشمن کی مغلوبیت کی علامت تھی۔


Joshua 10:25

Verse: And Joshua said unto them Fear not nor be dismayed be strong and of good courage for thus shall the LORD do to all your enemies against whom ye fight

  • English Explanation: Joshua uses the moment to encourage his leaders. He reassures them that just as these kings were defeated God would grant victory over all future enemies.

  • Urdu Explanation: یشوع نے اپنی فوج کی حوصلہ افزائی کی کہ مت ڈرو اور ہمت رکھو کیونکہ خداوند تمہارے تمام دشمنوں کے ساتھ ایسا ہی سلوک کرے گا۔


Joshua 10:26

Verse: And afterward Joshua smote them and slew them and hanged them on five trees and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening

  • English Explanation: The kings were executed and their bodies displayed as a warning. This was a fulfillment of divine judgment against the wicked nations of Canaan.

  • Urdu Explanation: ان پانچوں بادشاہوں کو قتل کر کے پانچ درختوں پر لٹکا دیا گیا تاکہ یہ سب کے لیے عبرت کا نشان بنیں۔


Joshua 10:27

Verse: And it came to pass at the time of the going down of the sun that Joshua commanded and they took them down off the trees and cast them into the cave wherein they had been hid and laid great stones in the caves mouth which remain until this very day

  • English Explanation: Following Mosaic law the bodies were taken down by sunset. They were buried in the same cave they hid in making their refuge their final tomb.

  • Urdu Explanation: شریعت کے مطابق سورج ڈھلنے پر ان کی لاشوں کو اتار کر اسی غار میں ڈال دیا گیا اور غار کا منہ بڑے پتھروں سے بند کر دیا گیا۔


Joshua 10:28

Verse: And that day Joshua took Makkedah and smote it with the edge of the sword and the king thereof he utterly destroyed them and all the souls that were therein he let none remain and he did to the king of Makkedah as he did unto the king of Jericho

  • English Explanation: Joshua moves from defeating the kings to capturing their cities. Makkedah is the first to fall in this southern campaign suffering the same fate as Jericho.

  • Urdu Explanation: اسی دن یشوع نے مکہادہ کے شہر کو فتح کیا اور وہاں کے بادشاہ اور باشندوں کا مکمل خاتمہ کر دیا۔


Joshua 10:29

Verse: Then Joshua passed from Makkedah and all Israel with him unto Libnah and fought against Libnah

  • English Explanation: The campaign continues rapidly as the Israelite army marches to the next target Libnah.

  • Urdu Explanation: مکہادہ کے بعد یشوع اور اسرائیلی فوج نے لبناہ کی طرف پیش قدمی کی اور اس کے خلاف جنگ چھیڑ دی۔


Joshua 10:30

Verse: And the LORD delivered it also and the king thereof into the hand of Israel and he smote it with the edge of the sword and all the souls that were therein he let none remain in it but did unto the king thereof as he did unto the king of Jericho

  • English Explanation: God grants Israel victory over Libnah. The city is completely overtaken and the inhabitants are judged according to the divine command for the conquest.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا نے لبناہ کو بھی اسرائیل کے حوالے کر دیا اور وہاں بھی یریحوں کی طرح مکمل فتح حاصل ہوئی۔


Joshua 10:31

Verse: And Joshua passed from Libnah and all Israel with him unto Lachish and encamped against it and fought against it

  • English Explanation: The military momentum carries the Israelites to Lachish a significant and well-fortified city in the region.

  • Urdu Explanation: لبناہ کے بعد اگلا نشانہ لکیس تھا جہاں اسرائیلی فوج نے پڑاؤ ڈالا اور جنگ شروع کی۔


Joshua 10:32

Verse: And the LORD delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel which took it on the second day and smote it with the edge of the sword and all the souls that were therein according to all that he had done to Libnah

  • English Explanation: Lachish falls quickly on the second day of the siege. The efficiency of the conquest demonstrates God’s favor on Joshua’s leadership.

  • Urdu Explanation: دوسرے ہی دن لکیس بھی اسرائیل کے قبضے میں آگیا اور وہاں کے تمام باشندوں کو ہلاک کر دیا گیا۔


Joshua 10:33

Verse: Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish and Joshua smote him and his people until he had left him none remaining

  • English Explanation: The king of Gezer tries to intervene to save Lachish but his army is intercepted and destroyed. This prevented any outside relief for the Amorite coalition.

  • Urdu Explanation: جیزر کے بادشاہ ہورام نے لکیس کی مدد کرنے کی کوشش کی لیکن یشوع نے اسے اور اس کی پوری فوج کو شکست دے کر نیست و نابود کر دیا۔
