Joshua 10:12

Verse: Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel and he said in the sight of Israel Sun stand thou still upon Gibeon and thou Moon in the valley of Ajalon

  • English Explanation: This is one of the most remarkable prayers in the Bible. Joshua, needing more daylight to complete the victory over the Amorites, boldly asks God to suspend the laws of nature. He speaks publicly (“in the sight of Israel”) to demonstrate his faith and God’s power.

  • Urdu Explanation: یشوع نے خدا سے ایک غیر معمولی دعا کی کہ سورج اور چاند اپنی جگہ رک جائیں تاکہ بنی اسرائیل دشمنوں پر مکمل فتح حاصل کر سکیں۔ یہ یشوع کے ایمان اور خدا کی قدرت کا عظیم اظہار تھا۔

Joshua 10:13

Verse: And the sun stood still and the moon stayed until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies Is not this written in the book of Jasher So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven and hasted not to go down about a whole day

  • English Explanation: God answers the prayer literally. The celestial bodies cease their apparent motion for nearly twenty-four hours. The “Book of Jasher” is referenced as a historical record (now lost) that corroborated this miraculous event.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا نے یشوع کی دعا سن لی اور سورج تقریباً ایک پورے دن کے لیے آسمان کے درمیان رکا رہا۔ یہ واقعہ اس وقت کی تاریخی کتاب ’یاشر‘ میں بھی درج تھا، جو اس معجزے کی گواہی دیتی ہے۔

Joshua 10:14

Verse: And there was no day like that before it or after it that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man for the LORD fought for Israel

  • English Explanation: The verse emphasizes the uniqueness of this event. While God listens to all believers, this specific instance of God altering the cosmos at the request of a human leader was unparalleled. It confirms that Israel’s victory was divine, not just military.

  • Urdu Explanation: تاریخ میں ایسا دن نہ پہلے کبھی آیا اور نہ بعد میں، جب خدا نے ایک انسان کی پکار پر کائنات کے نظام کو بدل دیا۔ یہ اس بات کا ثبوت تھا کہ جنگ خدا کی تھی۔

Joshua 10:15

Verse: And Joshua returned and all Israel with him unto the camp to Gilgal

  • English Explanation: After the initial miraculous intervention, the army returns to their base at Gilgal to regroup. It shows the orderly nature of Joshua’s leadership.

  • Urdu Explanation: معجزانہ فتح کے بعد یشوع اور تمام بنی اسرائیل اپنے مرکزی پڑاؤ یعنی جلجال واپس آگئے تاکہ اگلے قدم کی تیاری کر سکیں۔

Joshua 10:16

Verse: But these five kings fled and hid themselves in a cave at Makkedah

  • English Explanation: The five Amorite kings, realizing their defeat was supernatural, tried to seek refuge in a cave. This highlights the futility of trying to hide from God’s judgment.

  • Urdu Explanation: پانچوں کنعانی بادشاہ خوفزدہ ہو کر مَقیدہ کے ایک غار میں چھپ گئے، لیکن وہ خدا کے انصاف سے بھاگ نہ سکے۔

Joshua 10:17

Verse: And it was told Joshua saying The five kings are found hid in a cave at Makkedah

  • English Explanation: Intelligence is brought to Joshua regarding the location of the enemy leaders. No matter how deep the cave, their hiding place is revealed.

  • Urdu Explanation: یشوع کو اطلاع دی گئی کہ وہ پانچوں بادشاہ مَقیدہ کے غار میں چھپے ہوئے پائے گئے ہیں۔

Joshua 10:18

Verse: And Joshua said Roll great stones upon the mouth of the cave and set men by it for to keep them

  • English Explanation: Joshua acts decisively. He imprisons them using the cave itself as a cell, ensuring they cannot escape while he focuses on the remaining enemy soldiers.

  • Urdu Explanation: یشوع نے حکم دیا کہ غار کے منہ پر بڑے پتھر لڑھکا دیے جائیں اور پہرہ بٹھا دیا جائے تاکہ بادشاہ وہاں سے نکل نہ سکیں۔

Joshua 10:19

Verse: And stay ye not but pursue after your enemies and smite the hindmost of them suffer them not to enter into their cities for the LORD your God hath delivered them into your hand

  • English Explanation: Joshua commands his troops to prioritize the pursuit of the fleeing army. He encourages them with the promise that God has already granted the victory.

  • Urdu Explanation: یشوع نے فوج کو حکم دیا کہ وقت ضائع نہ کریں بلکہ دشمن کا پیچھا کریں اور انہیں ان کے شہروں میں داخل ہونے سے پہلے ختم کر دیں کیونکہ خدا نے انہیں اسرائیل کے قبضے میں کر دیا ہے۔

Joshua 10:20

Verse: And it came to pass when Joshua and the children of Israel had made an end of slaying them with a very great slaughter till they were consumed that the rest which remained of them entered into fenced cities

  • English Explanation: The battle was decisive and devastating for the Amorites. Only a small remnant managed to reach the safety of fortified cities.

  • Urdu Explanation: اسرائیلی فوج نے دشمن کا مکمل صفایا کر دیا اور صرف چند بچے کھچے لوگ ہی قلعہ بند شہروں میں پناہ لینے میں کامیاب ہو سکے۔

Joshua 10:21

Verse: And all the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace none moved his tongue against any of the children of Israel

  • English Explanation: The victory was so absolute that not a single person dared to speak against Israel. It reflects a state of total security and divine favor.

  • Urdu Explanation: تمام اسرائیلی فوجی سلامتی کے ساتھ مَقیدہ واپس آئے اور کسی دشمن میں اتنی ہمت نہ تھی کہ بنی اسرائیل کے خلاف ایک لفظ بھی بول سکے۔

Joshua 10:22

Verse: Then said Joshua Open the mouth of the cave and bring out those five kings unto me out of the cave

  • English Explanation: With the main battle over, Joshua turns his attention to the captured leaders to finalize the judgment.

  • Urdu Explanation: جب جنگ ختم ہوئی تو یشوع نے غار کا منہ کھولنے اور ان پانچوں بادشاہوں کو باہر لانے کا حکم دیا۔

Joshua 10:23

Verse: And they did so and brought forth those five kings unto him out of the cave the king of Jerusalem the king of Hebron the king of Jarmuth the king of Lachish and the king of Eglon

  • English Explanation: The text lists the specific kings: Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish, and Eglon. These were the heads of the coalition against Israel.

  • Urdu Explanation: وہ پانچوں بادشاہ—یروشلم، حبرون، یرموت، لکیس اور عجلون کے بادشاہ—یشوع کے سامنے لائے گئے۔

Joshua 10:24

Verse: And it came to pass when they brought out those kings unto Joshua that Joshua called for all the men of Israel and said unto the captains of the men of war which went with him Come near put your feet upon the necks of these kings And they came near and put their feet upon the necks of them

  • English Explanation: This was a symbolic act of total conquest common in the ancient Near East. It demonstrated that God had placed Israel’s enemies under their feet.

  • Urdu Explanation: یشوع نے اپنے سپہ سالاروں سے کہا کہ وہ ان بادشاہوں کی گردنوں پر پاؤں رکھیں۔ یہ اس بات کی علامت تھی کہ دشمن مکمل طور پر مغلوب ہو چکے ہیں۔

Joshua 10:25

Verse: And Joshua said unto them Fear not nor be dismayed be strong and of good courage for thus shall the LORD do to all your enemies against whom ye fight

  • English Explanation: Joshua uses this moment to build the faith of his leaders. He reassures them that as long as they trust God, every enemy will face the same fate.

  • Urdu Explanation: یشوع نے اپنی قوم کی حوصلہ افزائی کی کہ ڈرو مت اور ہمت نہ ہارو، کیونکہ خدا تمہارے تمام دشمنوں کے ساتھ یہی سلوک کرے گا۔

Joshua 10:26

Verse: And afterward Joshua smote them and slew them and hanged them on five trees and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening

  • English Explanation: The execution of the kings served as a public display of the end of their power. Hanging them on trees was a sign of being under a curse.

  • Urdu Explanation: اس کے بعد یشوع نے ان پانچوں بادشاہوں کو قتل کر دیا اور انہیں عبرت کے لیے پانچ درختوں پر لٹکا دیا۔

Joshua 10:27

Verse: And it came to pass at the time of the going down of the sun that Joshua commanded and they took them down off the trees and cast them into the cave wherein they had been hid and laid great stones in the caves mouth which remain until this very day

  • English Explanation: In accordance with Biblical law (Deuteronomy 21:23), the bodies were taken down by sunset. Their hiding place (the cave) became their permanent tomb.

  • Urdu Explanation: غروبِ آفتاب کے وقت ان کی لاشوں کو اتار کر اسی غار میں پھینک دیا گیا جہاں وہ چھپے تھے، اور غار کا منہ بڑے پتھروں سے بند کر دیا گیا۔

Joshua 10:28

Verse: And that day Joshua took Makkedah and smote it with the edge of the sword and the king thereof he utterly destroyed them and all the souls that were therein he let none remain and he did to the king of Makkedah as he did unto the king of Jericho

  • English Explanation: Makkedah is the first city to fall in this southern campaign. It faced total destruction as part of the divine mandate against the wicked nations of Canaan.

  • Urdu Explanation: اسی دن یشوع نے مَقیدہ کو فتح کیا اور وہاں کے بادشاہ اور باشندوں کا مکمل خاتمہ کر دیا، جیسا کہ یریحو کے ساتھ کیا گیا تھا۔

Joshua 10:29

Verse: Then Joshua passed from Makkedah and all Israel with him unto Libnah and fought against Libnah

  • English Explanation: The campaign moves swiftly from one victory to the next. Libnah is the next target for the Israelite army.

  • Urdu Explanation: مَقیدہ کے بعد یشوع اپنی فوج کے ساتھ لبناہ کی طرف بڑھا اور اس پر حملہ کیا۔

Joshua 10:30

Verse: And the LORD delivered it also and the king thereof into the hand of Israel and he smote it with the edge of the sword and all the souls that were therein he let none remain in it but did unto the king thereof as he did unto the king of Jericho

  • English Explanation: Libnah falls just as Makkedah did. The repetition of the phrasing emphasizes God’s consistent delivery of enemies into Israel’s hands.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا نے لبناہ کو بھی اسرائیل کے حوالے کر دیا اور وہاں بھی کسی کو زندہ نہ چھوڑا گیا۔

Joshua 10:31

Verse: And Joshua passed from Libnah and all Israel with him unto Lachish and encamped against it and fought against it

  • English Explanation: The army proceeds to Lachish, a more significant and fortified city, showing the expansion of the conquest.

  • Urdu Explanation: لبناہ کے بعد اگلا نشانہ لکیس کا شہر تھا، یشوع نے وہاں ڈیرہ ڈالا اور جنگ کی تیاری کی۔

Joshua 10:32

Verse: And the LORD delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel which took it on the second day and smote it with the edge of the sword and all the souls that were therein according to all that he had done to Libnah

  • English Explanation: Lachish falls quickly—on only the second day. The speed of the conquest is attributed to divine assistance.

  • Urdu Explanation: لکیس دوسرے ہی دن فتح ہو گیا اور وہاں بھی یشوع نے وہی کیا جو لبناہ کے ساتھ کیا تھا یعنی مکمل صفایا۔

Joshua 10:33

Verse: Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish and Joshua smote him and his people until he had left him none remaining

  • English Explanation: King Horam of Gezer attempts to intervene to save Lachish, but his intervention fails completely. He and his army are totally defeated by Joshua.

  • Urdu Explanation: جزر کے بادشاہ ہورام نے لکیس کی مدد کرنے کی کوشش کی لیکن یشوع نے اسے اور اس کی پوری فوج کو شکست دے دی اور کوئی باقی نہ بچا۔
