Judges 6:7

Verse: And it came to pass when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD because of the Midianites

  • English Explanation: After years of suffering under the brutal raids of the Midianites, the Israelites finally recognized their helplessness and turned back to God in prayer. Repentance often begins with a cry for help.

  • Urdu Explanation: جب بنی اسرائیل نے مدیانیوں کے ظلم سے تنگ آ کر خداوند سے فریاد کی تو خدا نے ان کی سنی۔ یہ آیت ظاہر کرتی ہے کہ جب انسان مصیبت میں خدا کو پکارتا ہے تو وہ جواب دیتا ہے۔

Judges 6:8

Verse: That the LORD sent a prophet unto the children of Israel which said unto them Thus saith the LORD God of Israel I brought you up from Egypt and brought you forth out of the house of bondage

  • English Explanation: Before providing a physical deliverer, God sent a prophet to remind them of their history and God’s faithfulness, establishing the context of their current suffering as a result of their own disobedience.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا نے پہلے ایک نبی بھیجا تاکہ انہیں یاد دلائے کہ وہی ہے جو انہیں مصر کی غلامی سے نکال لایا تھا۔ نجات سے پہلے خدا اکثر انسان کو اس کے گناہ اور اپنی وفاداری یاد دلاتا ہے۔

Judges 6:9

Verse: And I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians and out of the hand of all that oppressed you and drave them out from before you and gave you their land

  • English Explanation: God recounts His past miracles, emphasizing that He didn’t just free them, but also cleared the path and provided a home for them.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا نے انہیں بتایا کہ اس نے نہ صرف انہیں مصر سے چھڑایا بلکہ تمام دشمنوں کو ان کے سامنے سے نکالا اور انہیں یہ زمین عطا کی۔

Judges 6:10

Verse: And I said unto you I am the LORD your God fear not the gods of the Amorites in whose land ye dwell but ye have not obeyed my voice

  • English Explanation: The core issue is identified: idolatry. They feared local gods instead of respecting the Covenant with the True God.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا نے انہیں خبردار کیا تھا کہ وہ دوسرے معبودوں کی عبادت نہ کریں لیکن انہوں نے خدا کی بات نہیں مانی۔ یہی ان کی تباہی کی اصل وجہ تھی۔

Judges 6:11

Verse: And there came an angel of the LORD and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah that pertained unto Joash the Abi-ezrite and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress to hide it from the Midianites

  • English Explanation: Gideon is introduced in a state of fear, threshing wheat in a hidden winepress (a low pit) to prevent the Midianites from stealing the meager food supply.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا کا فرشتہ جدعون کے پاس آیا جو چھپ کر گندم صاف کر رہا تھا تاکہ مدیانی اسے چھین نہ لیں۔ یہ جدعون کی بے بسی اور خوف کو ظاہر کرتا ہے۔

Judges 6:12

Verse: And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him and said unto him The LORD is with thee thou mighty man of valour

  • English Explanation: The Angel calls Gideon what he will become, not what he currently feels like. God sees potential beyond our current circumstances.

  • Urdu Explanation: فرشتے نے جدعون کو “سورما” کہہ کر پکارا۔ خدا ہمیں ویسا نہیں دیکھتا جیسے ہم ہیں بلکہ ویسا دیکھتا ہے جیسا وہ ہمیں بنانا چاہتا ہے۔

Judges 6:13

Verse: And Gideon said unto him Oh my Lord if the LORD be with us why then is all this befallen us and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of saying Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt but now the LORD hath forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites

  • English Explanation: Gideon expresses honest doubt. He struggles to reconcile the stories of past miracles with the present reality of suffering and oppression.

  • Urdu Explanation: جدعون نے سوال کیا کہ اگر خدا ہمارے ساتھ ہے تو ہم پر یہ مصیبت کیوں آئی؟ اسے لگا کہ خدا نے انہیں چھوڑ دیا ہے۔ یہ انسانی فطرت ہے کہ وہ مشکل میں خدا کی موجودگی پر شک کرتا ہے۔

Judges 6:14

Verse: And the LORD looked upon him and said Go in this thy might and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites have not I sent thee

  • English Explanation: God does not argue with Gideon’s doubts. Instead, He gives him a command and a promise, emphasizing that the “might” comes from the divine commission itself.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا نے اس کے شک کا جواب دینے کے بجائے اسے حکم دیا کہ “جا اور اسرائیل کو بچا”۔ خدا کی طاقت ہی انسان کی اصل ہمت ہے۔

Judges 6:15

Verse: And he said unto him Oh my Lord wherewith shall I save Israel behold my family is poor in Manasseh and I am the least in my father’s house

  • English Explanation: Gideon looks at his social and economic status. He sees himself as the weakest member of a weak tribe, proving that God chooses the humble to confound the mighty.

  • Urdu Explanation: جدعون نے اپنی کمزوری کا عذر پیش کیا کہ اس کا خاندان غریب ہے اور وہ سب سے چھوٹا ہے۔ لیکن خدا اکثر کمزوروں کو ہی بڑے کاموں کے لیے چنتا ہے۔

Judges 6:16

Verse: And the LORD said unto him Surely I will be with thee and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man

  • English Explanation: The victory is guaranteed not by Gideon’s skill, but by God’s presence. The entire Midianite army would be defeated as easily as fighting a single person.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا نے یقین دلایا کہ “میں تیرے ساتھ ہوں”۔ جب خدا ساتھ ہو تو بڑی سے بڑی فوج کو شکست دینا ایک آدمی کو ہرانے جیسا آسان ہو جاتا ہے۔

Judges 6:17

Verse: And he said unto him If now I have found grace in thy sight then shew me a sign that thou talkest with me

  • English Explanation: Gideon asks for a supernatural confirmation to ensure he isn’t hallucinating and that this is truly a divine encounter.

  • Urdu Explanation: جدعون نے اپنے اطمینان کے لیے ایک نشان مانگا تاکہ اسے یقین ہو جائے کہ یہ واقعی خدا کا پیغام ہے۔

Judges 6:18

Verse: Depart not hence I pray thee until I come unto thee and bring forth my present and set it before thee And he said I will tarry until thou come again

  • English Explanation: Gideon prepares an offering. This shows his respect and desire to host the visitor properly while waiting for the sign.

  • Urdu Explanation: جدعون نے فرشتے سے درخواست کی کہ وہ ٹھہرے جب تک وہ نذرانہ لے کر نہ آئے۔ خدا صبر سے ہماری تیاری کا انتظار کرتا ہے۔

Judges 6:19

Verse: And Gideon went in and made ready a kid and unleavened cakes of an ephah of flour the flesh he put in a basket and he put the broth in a pot and brought it out unto him under the oak and presented it

  • English Explanation: The size of the offering (an ephah of flour is quite large) shows Gideon’s sincerity and sacrifice during a time of famine.

  • Urdu Explanation: جدعون نے بہترین کھانا تیار کیا اور فرشتے کے سامنے پیش کیا۔ قحط کے زمانے میں اتنا اناج پیش کرنا اس کی عقیدت کو ظاہر کرتا ہے۔

Judges 6:20

Verse: And the angel of God said unto him Take the flesh and the unleavened cakes and lay them upon this rock and pour out the broth And he did so

  • English Explanation: The instructions were specific, turning a meal into a formal sacrifice upon a rock, which acted as a natural altar.

  • Urdu Explanation: فرشتے نے اسے کھانا چٹان پر رکھنے کو کہا۔ یہ کھانا اب ایک قربانی کی صورت اختیار کر رہا تھا۔

Judges 6:21

Verse: Then the angel of the LORD put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand and touched the flesh and the unleavened cakes and there rose up fire out of the rock and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes Then the angel of the LORD departed out of his sight

  • English Explanation: The supernatural fire consuming the offering served as the sign Gideon requested. It confirmed the divine nature of the messenger and the acceptance of the offering.

  • Urdu Explanation: فرشتے کے چھوتے ہی آگ نکلی اور سب کچھ بھسم کر دیا۔ یہ ایک معجزہ تھا جس نے ثابت کر دیا کہ یہ پیغام بر حق ہے۔

Judges 6:22

Verse: And when Gideon perceived that he was an angel of the LORD Gideon said Alas O Lord GOD for because I have seen an angel of the LORD face to face

  • English Explanation: Gideon is struck with fear, believing that seeing a divine being face-to-face would result in immediate death, according to ancient tradition.

  • Urdu Explanation: جب جدعون کو احساس ہوا کہ وہ خدا کا فرشتہ تھا تو وہ ڈر گیا، کیونکہ قدیم عقیدہ تھا کہ خدا کو دیکھنے والا زندہ نہیں رہتا۔

Judges 6:23

Verse: And the LORD said unto him Peace be unto thee fear not thou shalt not die

  • English Explanation: God immediately reassures Gideon. This “Peace” (Shalom) is the foundation for Gideon’s internal strength.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا نے اسے تسلی دی کہ “تجھے سلامتی ہو، تو نہیں مرے گا”۔ خدا خوف کو اطمینان میں بدل دیتا ہے۔

Judges 6:24

Verse: Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD and called it Jehovah-shalom unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abi-ezrites

  • English Explanation: Gideon memorializes the encounter by building an altar named “The LORD is Peace” (Jehovah-Shalom).

  • Urdu Explanation: جدعون نے وہاں ایک مذبح بنایا اور اس کا نام ‘یہوواہ شلوم’ رکھا، جس کا مطلب ہے “خداوند سلامتی ہے”۔

Judges 6:25

Verse: And it came to pass the same night that the LORD said unto him Take thy father’s young bullock even the second bullock of seven years old and throw down the altar of Baal that thy father hath and cut down the grove that is by it

  • English Explanation: Spiritual warfare begins at home. Before Gideon can fight the Midianites, he must remove the idols from his own family’s house.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا نے حکم دیا کہ پہلے اپنے گھر سے بت پرستی ختم کرو۔ بعل کے مذبح کو گرانا نجات کے لیے پہلا قدم تھا۔

Judges 6:26

Verse: And build an altar unto the LORD thy God upon the top of this rock in the ordered place and take the second bullock and offer a burnt sacrifice with the wood of the grove which thou shalt cut down

  • English Explanation: Gideon is instructed to replace the false altar with a true one, using the wood from the pagan idol to burn the sacrifice to God.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا نے اسے حکم دیا کہ بت کے مذبح کی جگہ خدا کا مذبح بنائے اور اسی بت کی لکڑیوں سے قربانی کرے۔

Judges 6:27

Verse: Then Gideon took ten men of his servants and did as the LORD had said unto him and so it was because he feared his father’s household and the men of the city that he could not do it by day that he did it by night

  • English Explanation: Gideon obeyed, but his fear was still present. He chose to act under the cover of darkness. Obedience, even when coupled with fear, is still obedience.

  • Urdu Explanation: جدعون نے رات کے وقت یہ کام کیا کیونکہ وہ ڈرتا تھا۔ ڈر کے باوجود خدا کا حکم ماننا ہی اصل بندگی ہے۔

Judges 6:28

Verse: And when the men of the city arose early in the morning behold the altar of Baal was cast down and the grove was cut down that was by it and the second bullock was offered upon the altar that was built

  • English Explanation: The city’s reaction shows how deeply ingrained idolatry had become. They were more upset about the destroyed idol than their own oppression.

  • Urdu Explanation: جب صبح لوگوں نے دیکھا کہ ان کا بت ٹوٹ چکا ہے تو وہ غصے میں آ گئے۔ یہ ظاہر کرتا ہے کہ لوگ خدا کے بجائے بتوں کے کتنے عادی ہو چکے تھے۔

Judges 6:29

Verse: And they said one to another Who hath done this thing And when they enquired and asked they said Gideon the son of Joash hath done this thing

  • English Explanation: An investigation quickly identifies Gideon as the one responsible for the “blasphemy” against Baal.

  • Urdu Explanation: تحقیقات کے بعد لوگوں کو معلوم ہو گیا کہ یہ کام جدعون نے کیا ہے۔ حق کے لیے کھڑے ہونے والے کی پہچان جلد ہو جاتی ہے۔

Judges 6:30

Verse: Then the men of the city said unto Joash Bring out thy son that he may die because he hath cast down the altar of Baal and because he hath cut down the grove that was by it

  • English Explanation: The people demand Gideon’s death for destroying their false god. This highlights the irony: they were willing to kill a fellow Israelite to protect a silent, powerless idol.

  • Urdu Explanation: شہر کے لوگوں نے جدعون کی موت کا مطالبہ کیا۔ وہ ایک بے جان بت کے لیے اپنے ہی بھائی کو مارنے پر تیار ہو گئے، جو ان کی روحانی اندھیرے کو ظاہر کرتا ہے۔
