Mark 6:20

Verse: For Herod feared John knowing that he was a just man and an holy and observed him and when he heard him he did many things and heard him gladly

  • English Explanation: King Herod Antipas recognized the divine presence and integrity in John the Baptist. Despite being a powerful ruler, Herod was under conviction because of John’s holiness. He protected John (“observed him”) from the immediate murderous intent of Herodias and felt deeply conflicted whenever he listened to John’s preaching.

Mark 6:21

Verse: And when a convenient day was come that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords high captains and chief estates of Galilee

  • English Explanation: A strategic opportunity arose for Herodias to enact revenge. Herod hosted a massive, high-profile birthday banquet, inviting the influential military elite (“high captains”) and powerful political leaders of Galilee.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): ہیرودیاہ کو بدلہ لینے کا ایک مناسب موقع ملا جب ہیرودیس نے اپنی سالگرہ پر گلیل کے امیروں، فوج کے اعلیٰ افسران اور معززینِ شہر کے لیے ایک بڑی ضیافت کا اہتمام کیا۔

Mark 6:22

Verse: And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in and danced and pleased Herod and them that sat with him the king said unto the damsel Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt and I will give it thee

  • English Explanation: Salome, the daughter of Herodias, performed an provocative dance that deeply entertained Herod and his high-profile guests. Intoxicated by pride and the approval of his audience, Herod impulsively promised to give her anything she desired.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): ہیرودیاہ کی بیٹی (سلومی) محفل میں آئی اور اس نے رقص کر کے ہیرودیس اور اس کے مہمانوں کو خوش کیا۔ بادشاہ نے نشے اور فخر کے عالم میں لڑکی سے کہا کہ تو جو کچھ مجھ سے مانگے گی، میں تجھے دوں گا۔

Mark 6:23

Verse: And he sware unto her Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me I will give it thee unto the half of my kingdom

  • English Explanation: To prove his grandiosity before his noble guests, Herod bound himself with a solemn oath, grandly offering up to half of his kingdom—a reckless statement showing his lack of self-control.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): ہیرودیس نے اپنے مہمانوں کے سامنے اپنی شان دکھانے کے لیے قسم کھائی کہ “تو جو کچھ بھی مانگے گی، یہاں تک کہ میری نصف سلطنت ہی کیوں نہ ہو، میں تجھے دے دوں گا۔”

Mark 6:24

Verse: And she went forth and said unto her mother What shall I ask And she said The head of John the Baptist

  • English Explanation: The young girl, uncertain of how to exploit such a vast promise, consulted her mother. Herodias seized the moment of malice, instantly demanding the execution of John the Baptist to silence his criticism of her unlawful marriage.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): لڑکی نے باہر جا کر اپنی ماں سے مشورہ کیا کہ “میں کیا مانگوں؟” ہیرودیاہ نے اپنے کینے اور انتقام کی آگ بجھانے کے لیے فوراً کہا، “یوحنا اصطباغی کا سر۔”

Mark 6:25

Verse: And she came in straightway with haste unto the king and asked saying I will that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist

  • English Explanation: Driven by her mother’s urgency, the girl rushed back to the banquet hall. She demanded the execution immediately, requesting the head of John the Baptist served on a platter (“charger”) like a gruesome dish for the party.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): لڑکی جلدی سے بادشاہ کے پاس واپس آئی اور کہا کہ “میں چاہتی ہوں کہ تو ابھِی یوحنا اصطباغی کا سر تھال میں رکھ کر مجھے منگوا دے۔”

Mark 6:26

Verse: And the king was exceeding sorry yet for his oath’s sake and for their sakes which sat with him he would not reject her

  • English Explanation: Herod was filled with deep regret and grief because he respected John. However, because of peer pressure and his foolish pride regarding the oath made before his guests, he lacked the moral courage to refuse her.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): بادشاہ یہ سن کر سخت غمگین ہوا، لیکن اپنی کھائی ہوئی قسم اور اپنے معزز مہمانوں کے دباؤ کی وجہ سے وہ لڑکی کو انکار کرنے کی ہمت نہ کر سکا۔

Mark 6:27

Verse: And immediately the king sent an executioner and commanded his head to be brought and he went and beheaded him in the prison

  • English Explanation: Without delay, Herod ordered a military guard to the dungeon. The soldier carried out the execution, ending the life of the great prophet in the dark cells of the Machaerus fortress.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): بادشاہ نے فوراً جلاد کو حکم دیا کہ یوحنا کا سر لے کر آئے۔ جلاد قید خانے میں گیا اور وہاں یوحنا کا سر قلم کر دیا۔

Mark 6:28

Verse: And brought his head in a charger and gave it to the damsel and the damsel gave it to her mother

  • English Explanation: The horrific request was fulfilled. The prophet’s head was brought into the feast on a platter, handed to the girl, who then delivered this dark trophy to her vindictive mother.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): وہ یوحنا کا سر تھال میں رکھ کر لایا اور لڑکی کو دے دیا، اور لڑکی نے اسے لے جا کر اپنی ماں کو سونپ دیا۔

Mark 6:29

Verse: And when his disciples heard of it they came and took up his corpse and laid it in a tomb

  • English Explanation: Upon hearing of their master’s brutal execution, John’s faithful disciples courageously reclaimed his headless body and gave him an honorable burial.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): جب یوحنا کے شاگردوں کو اس واقعے کی خبر ملی، تو انہوں نے آ کر اس کی لاش کو اٹھایا اور احترام کے ساتھ ایک قبر میں دفن کر دیا۔

Mark 6:30

Verse: And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus and told him all things both what they had done and what they had taught

  • English Explanation: Returning from their missionary journeys, the twelve apostles assembled around Jesus to report their successes, miracles, and the doctrines they had shared with the towns.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): رسول اپنی تبلیغی مہم سے واپس لوٹ کر یسوع کے پاس جمع ہوئے اور جو کچھ انہوں نے کیا تھا اور جس بات کی تعلیم دی تھی، سب کا احوال سنایا۔

Mark 6:31

Verse: And he said unto them Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place and rest a while for there were many coming and going and they had no leisure so much as to eat

  • English Explanation: Seeing how exhausted they were from constant ministry and public demands—leaving them no time even for a proper meal—Jesus shows compassionate leadership by inviting them to a remote area to rest.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): چونکہ لوگوں کا ہجوم اس قدر تھا کہ شاگردوں کو روٹی کھانے کی بھی فرصت نہیں ملتی تھی، یسوع نے ان پر رحم کھا کر کہا، “تم الگ کسی ویران جگہ چلو تاکہ کچھ دیر آرام کر سکو۔”

Mark 6:32

Verse: And they departed into a desert place by ship privately

  • English Explanation: Looking for isolation, Jesus and the disciples boarded a fishing boat to cross the Sea of Galilee quietly away from the crowds.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): چنانچہ وہ کشتِی میں بیٹھ کر الگ ایک ویران جگہ کی طرف روانہ ہو گئے تاکہ بھیڑ سے بچ سکیں۔

Mark 6:33

Verse: And the people saw them departing and many knew him and ran afoot thither out of all cities and outwent them and came together unto him

  • English Explanation: The determined crowd saw the trajectory of the boat. Recognizing Jesus, people from various villages ran along the shoreline, arriving at the destination even before the boat docked.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): لیکن لوگوں نے انہیں جاتے ہوئے دیکھ لیا اور بہت سے لوگ پہچان گئے، اور سب شہروں سے خشکی کے راستے دوڑ کر ان سے پہلے وہاں پہنچ گئے اور جمع ہو گئے۔

Mark 6:34

Verse: And Jesus when he came out saw much people and was moved with compassion toward them because they were as sheep not having a shepherd and he began to teach them many things

  • English Explanation: Instead of feeling frustrated by the lack of privacy, Jesus felt deep divine compassion. He saw the spiritual aimlessness of the people, comparing them to vulnerable sheep without a shepherd, and immediately began teaching them.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): جب یسوع نے کشتی سے اتر کر ایک بڑی بھیڑ دیکھی، تو اسے ان پر بڑا ترس آیا کیونکہ وہ ان بھیڑوں کی مانند تھے جن کا کوئی چرواہا نہ ہو۔ چنانچہ وہ انہیں بہت سی باتیں سکھانے لگا۔

Mark 6:35

Verse: And when the day was now far spent his disciples came unto him and said This is a desert place and now the time is far passed

  • English Explanation: As evening approached in this desolate location, the disciples grew anxious about the practical limitations of managing thousands of hungry people in the wilderness.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): جب دن بہت ڈھل گیا، تو شاگردوں نے یسوع کے پاس آ کر کہا کہ “یہ جگہ ویران ہے اور وقت بہت ہو چکا ہے”۔

Mark 6:36

Verse: Send them away that they may go into the country round about and into the villages and buy themselves bread for they have nothing to eat

  • English Explanation: The disciples proposed a logical solution based on human limitations: dismiss the crowds so individuals could find food for themselves in nearby farms and villages.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): “ان لوگوں کو رخصت کر دے تاکہ یہ آس پاس کی بستیوں اور گاؤں میں جا کر اپنے لیے کھانے کو کچھ خرید سکیں، کیونکہ ان کے پاس کچھ نہیں ہے۔”

Mark 6:37

Verse: He answered and said unto them Give ye them to eat And they say unto him Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread and give them to eat

  • English Explanation: Jesus challenged their faith by commanding them to provide the food. The disciples responded with shock, pointing out that buying food for such a mass would require eight months’ wages (“two hundred pennyworth”).

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): یسوع نے جواب دیا، “تم ہی انہیں کھانے کو دو۔” انہوں نے حیرت سے کہا، “کیا ہم جا کر دو سو دینار کی روٹیاں خریدیں جو ان کو کھلائیں؟” (یہ ایک بہت بڑی رقم تھی)۔

Mark 6:38

Verse: He saith unto them How many loaves have ye go and see And when they knew they say Five and two fishes

  • English Explanation: Jesus forced them to assess their current resources instead of focusing on what they lacked. They found a tiny supply: just five loaves of bread and two small fish.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): اس نے ان سے کہا، “تمہارے پاس کتنی روٹیاں ہیں؟ جا کر دیکھو۔” انہوں نے معلوم کر کے کہا، “پانچ روٹیاں اور دو مچھلیاں۔”

Mark 6:39

Verse: And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass

  • English Explanation: Exhibiting divine order and organization, Jesus instructed the disciples to arrange the vast crowd into organized groups on the fresh spring grass.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): تب اس نے انہیں حکم دیا کہ سب لوگوں کو ہری گھاس پر ٹولیوں میں بٹھا دیں۔

Mark 6:40

Verse: And they sat down in ranks by hundreds and by fifties

  • English Explanation: The people arranged themselves in systematic grid rows of hundreds and fifties, making it easy to distribute the food equitably without chaos.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): اور لوگ سو سو اور پچاس پچاس کر کے صفوں میں بیٹھ گئے۔

Mark 6:41

Verse: And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes he looked up to heaven and blessed and brake the loaves and gave them to his disciples to set before them and the two fishes divided he among them all

  • English Explanation: Jesus took the meager provisions, looked toward heaven to acknowledge God as the source of all blessing, and broke the food. As He handed it to the disciples to distribute, the food miraculously multiplied in His hands.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): پھر اس نے ان پانچ روٹیوں اور دو مچھلیوں کو لیا اور آسمان کی طرف دیکھ کر برکت چاہی، اور روٹیاں توڑ توڑ کر شاگردوں کو دیتا گیا تاکہ وہ لوگوں کے آگے رکھیں، اور وہ دو مچھلیاں بھی ان سب میں تقسیم کر دیں۔

Mark 6:42

Verse: And they did all eat and were filled

  • English Explanation: The miracle was abundant. Every single person in the crowd ate until they were completely satisfied and full.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): اور سب نے کھایا اور سیر ہو گئے (یعنی ان کا پیٹ بھر گیا)۔

Mark 6:43

Verse: And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments and of the fishes

  • English Explanation: To demonstrate God’s extravagant provision and prevent waste, the disciples collected the leftovers, filling twelve large baskets—one for each apostle.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): اور انہوں نے بچے ہوئے ٹکڑوں اور مچھلیوں سے بارہ ٹوکریاں بھر کر اٹھائیں۔

Mark 6:44

Verse: And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men

  • English Explanation: The census of those fed counted five thousand men, a number that likely doubled when accounting for the uncounted women and children present.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): اور روٹیاں کھانے والے مرد تقریباً پانچ ہزار تھے۔

Mark 6:45

Verse: And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship and to go to the other side before unto Bethsaida while he sent away the people

  • English Explanation: Immediately following the miracle, Jesus strongly urged (“constrained”) His disciples to leave by boat toward Bethsaida while He personally handled the dismissal of the massive crowd.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): اس کے فوراً بعد یسوع نے اپنے شاگردوں کو مجبور کیا کہ وہ کشتی میں بیٹھ کر اس سے پہلے پار بیت صیدا کو چلے جائیں، جب تک کہ وہ بھیڑ کو رخصت کرے۔

Mark 6:46

Verse: And when he had sent them away he departed into a mountain to pray

  • English Explanation: After interacting with the crowds, Jesus sought spiritual replenishment, withdrawing entirely alone up a mountain to spend intimate time in prayer with His Father.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): جب اس نے لوگوں کو رخصت کر دیا، تو وہ دعا کرنے کے لیے پہاڑ پر چلا گیا۔

Mark 6:47

Verse: And when even was come the ship was in the midst of the sea and he alone on the land

  • English Explanation: By nightfall, the disciples’ boat was far out in the center of the Sea of Galilee, completely isolated, while Jesus remained back on the shore.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): جب شام ہوئی تو کشتی جھیل کے بیچ میں تھی اور وہ اکیلا خشکی پر تھا۔

Mark 6:48

Verse: And he saw them toiling in rowing for the wind was contrary unto them and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them walking upon the sea and would have passed by them

  • English Explanation: Watching from afar, Jesus saw them struggling against a harsh headwind. During the fourth watch (between 3:00 AM and 6:00 AM), He approached them, defying natural laws by walking on the crashing waves.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): اور اس نے دیکھا کہ شاگرد چپو مارنے میں سخت تکلیف اٹھا رہے ہیں کیونکہ ہوا ان کے مخالف تھی۔ رات کے چوتھے پہر کے قریب وہ جھیل پر چلتا ہوا ان کے پاس آیا اور ان سے آگے نکل جانا چاہتا تھا تاکہ وہ اسے دیکھ سکیں۔

Mark 6:49

Verse: But when they saw him walking upon the sea they supposed it had been a spirit and cried out

  • English Explanation: In the darkness and heavy storm, the disciples did not recognize Jesus. Terrified by the impossible sight, they assumed they were seeing a phantom or ghost and screamed in fear.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): لیکن جب انہوں نے اسے جھیل پر چلتے ہوئے دیکھا، تو سمجھے کہ کوئی بھوت ہے اور چلا اٹھے۔

Mark 6:50

Verse: For they all saw him and were troubled And immediately he talked with them and saith unto them Be of good cheer it is I be not afraid

  • English Explanation: They were collectively terrified. Jesus instantly spoke up to comfort them, saying words that carry profound divine weight: “Take courage! It is I (literally, I AM); do not fear.”

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): کیونکہ سب اسے دیکھ کر ڈر گئے تھے۔ لیکن اس نے فوراً ان سے باتیں کیں اور کہا، “خاطر جمع رکھو، میں ہوں، ڈرو مت۔”

Mark 6:51

Verse: And he went up unto them into the ship and the wind ceased and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure and wondered

  • English Explanation: The moment Jesus stepped into their boat, the roaring wind instantly died down. The sudden supernatural calm left the disciples completely dumbfounded and astonished.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): پھر وہ ان کے پاس کشتی پر سوار ہوا اور ہوا تھم گئی؛ اور وہ اپنے دل میں حد سے زیادہ حیران ہوئے۔

Mark 6:52

Verse: For they considered not the miracle of the loaves for their heart was hardened

  • English Explanation: Mark notes their astonishment stemmed from spiritual blindness; they failed to connect the feeding of the 5,000 to Jesus’ identity as Lord over all creation due to a temporary hardness of heart.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): کیونکہ وہ روٹیوں کے معجزے کا مطلب نہ سمجھے تھے، اس لیے کہ ان کے دل سخت ہو گئے تھے۔

Mark 6:53

Verse: And when they had passed over they came into the land of Gennesaret and drew to the shore

  • English Explanation: Safely crossing the waters, they docked their vessel on the shores of Gennesaret, a highly populated plains region on the northwest edge of the sea.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): اور وہ پار اتر کر گِنیَسرت کے علاقے میں پہنچے اور کشتی کنارے پر لگائی۔

Mark 6:54

Verse: And when they were come out of the ship straightway they knew him

  • Explanation: As soon as Jesus stepped onto the dry land, the local inhabitants immediately recognized Him, sparking immense excitement through the community.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): جیسے ہی وہ کشتی سے باہر آئے، وہاں کے لوگوں نے فوراً یسوع کو پہچان لیا۔

Mark 6:55

Verse: And ran through that whole region round about and began to carry about in beds those that were sick where they heard he was

  • English Explanation: Word spread like wildfire. People sprinted across the region, picking up the bedridden and chronically ill on mats, rushing them to whatever location Jesus was reported to be visiting.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): اور اس سارے علاقے میں چاروں طرف دوڑے اور بیماروں کو چارپائیوں پر ڈال کر جہاں کہیں سنتے تھے کہ وہ ہے، وہاں لانے لگے۔

Mark 6:56

Verse: And whithersoever he entered into villages or cities or country they laid the sick in the streets and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment and as many as touched him were made whole

  • English Explanation: Everywhere Jesus traveled, the sick filled the streets. Possessing great faith, they begged just to touch the ritual fringe of His cloak. Every single person who touched Him was perfectly cured.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): اور وہ جہاں کہیں بستیوں یا شہروں یا دیہاتوں میں جاتا، لوگ بیماروں کو بازاروں میں لا کر رکھ دیتے اور اس کی منت کرتے تھے کہ وہ صرف اس کی پوشاک کے دامن ہی کو چھو لیں، اور جتنے اسے چھوتے تھے، سب شفا پا جاتے تھے۔

Chapter 7

Mark 7:1

Verse: Then came together unto him the Pharisees and certain of the scribes which came from Jerusalem

  • English Explanation: An official delegation of religious elite (Pharisees and legal scholars) traveled down from Jerusalem to Galilee. They came specifically to spy on Jesus and find legal grounds to discredit His ministry.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): پھر فریسی اور کئی ایک فقیہ یروشلم سے آ کر یسوع کے پاس جمع ہوئے (تاکہ اس کے خلاف کوئی اعتراض ڈھونڈ سکیں)۔

Mark 7:2

Verse: And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled that is to say with unwashen hands they found fault

  • English Explanation: The religious leaders noticed that Jesus’ disciples did not perform the elaborate, ceremonial hand-washing rituals prior to eating. They condemned this as being spiritually defiled.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): انہوں نے دیکھا کہ اس کے بعض شاگرد ناپاک یعنی بغیر ہاتھ دھوئے روٹی کھاتے ہیں، تو انہوں نے اس پر اعتراض کیا۔

Mark 7:3

Verse: For the Pharisees and all the Jews except they wash their hands oft eat not holding the tradition of the elders

  • English Explanation: Mark explains Jewish culture for his Gentile readers: the Pharisees strictly followed man-made oral traditions (“traditions of the elders”), requiring complex, repetitive washing rituals before eating.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): کیونکہ فریسی اور سب یہودی جب تک بزرگوں کی روایت کے مطابق خاص طریقے سے ہاتھ نہ دھو لیں، نہیں کھاتے تھے۔

Mark 7:4

Verse: And when they come from the market except they wash they eat not And many other things there be which they have received to hold as the washing of cups and pots brasen vessels and of tables

  • English Explanation: Returning from public markets, they feared ritual defilement from Genitles. They insisted on purifying themselves, along with strict ritual washings of household items like cups, jugs, copper kettles, and dining couches.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): اور بازار سے آ کر جب تک غسل نہ کر لیں، نہیں کھاتے؛ اور بہت سی دوسری باتیں ہیں جن پر قائم رہنے کا انہوں نے عہد کر رکھا ہے، جیسے پیالوں، برتنوں، تانبے کے ظروف اور چوکوں کا دھونا۔
