Numbers 26:7–39: Verse-by-Verse Breakdown

Numbers 26:7

Verse: These are the families of the Reubenites and they that were numbered of them were forty and three thousand and seven hundred and thirty

  • English Detail: This verse concludes the census for the tribe of Reuben. Interestingly, the population decreased by 2,770 since the first census in Sinai, likely due to various rebellions.

Numbers 26:8

Verse: And the sons of Pallu Eliab

  • English Detail: This specifies the direct lineage of Pallu, identifying Eliab as his son.

  • Urdu Detail: اور فلو کا بیٹا الیاب تھا۔ یہ نسب نامہ خاندان کی ترتیب کو واضح کرتا ہے۔

Numbers 26:9

Verse: And the sons of Eliab Nemuel and Dathan and Abiram This is that Dathan and Abiram which were famous in the congregation who strove against Moses and against Aaron in the company of Korah when they strove against the LORD

Numbers 26:10

Verse: And the earth opened her mouth and swallowed them up together with Korah when that company died what time the fire devoured two hundred and fifty men and they became a sign

  • English Detail: A record of divine judgment. The destruction of these rebels served as a “sign” or warning to future generations about the gravity of sin.

  • Urdu Detail: اور زمین نے اپنا منہ کھول کر انہیں اور قورح کو نگل لیا۔ اس وقت آگ نے دو سو پچاس آدمیوں کو بھسم کر دیا اور وہ دوسروں کے لیے عبرت کا نشان بن گئے۔

Numbers 26:11

Verse: Notwithstanding the children of Korah died not

  • English Detail: A notable mention of God’s mercy; though Korah rebelled, his descendants were spared, eventually becoming prominent temple singers and writers of Psalms.

  • Urdu Detail: لیکن قورح کے بیٹے ہلاک نہ ہوئے۔ یہ خدا کے رحم و کرم کی دلیل ہے کہ باپ کے گناہ کی وجہ سے بیٹوں کو ہلاک نہیں کیا گیا۔

Verse: The sons of Simeon after their families of Nemuel the family of the Nemuelites of Jamin the family of the Jaminites of Jachin the family of the Jachinites… These are the families of the Simeonites twenty and two thousand and two hundred

  • English Detail: Simeon saw the most dramatic decrease in population (from 59,300 to 22,200), largely attributed to the plague following the sin at Baal-peor.

Numbers 26:15–18

Verse: The children of Gad after their families… These are the families of the children of Gad according to those that were numbered of them forty thousand and five hundred

  • English Detail: The tribe of Gad also saw a slight decrease. They were known for being a warlike tribe settled on the east of the Jordan.

  • Urdu Detail: جاد کے خاندانوں کی فہرست اور ان کی تعداد چالیس ہزار پانچ سو بتائی گئی ہے۔

Numbers 26:19–22

Verse: The sons of Judah were Er and Onan and Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan… These are the families of Judah according to those that were numbered of them threescore and sixteen thousand and five hundred

  • English Detail: Judah remained the largest and most powerful tribe (76,500), showing God’s blessing on the line that would eventually produce King David and the Messiah.

  • Urdu Detail: یہوداہ کے خاندانوں کی تفصیل یہاں موجود ہے۔ یہوداہ سب سے بڑا قبیلہ رہا جس کی تعداد چھہتر ہزار پانچ سو تھی۔

Numbers 26:23–25

Verse: Of the sons of Issachar after their families… These are the families of Issachar according to those that were numbered of them threescore and four thousand and three hundred

  • English Detail: Issachar increased significantly in number, reaching 64,300 men of war.

  • Urdu Detail: یساکار کے خاندانوں کی گنتی چونسٹھ ہزار تین سو تھی۔ ان کی تعداد میں اضافہ ہوا۔

Numbers 26:26–27

Verse: Of the sons of Zebulun after their families… These are the families of the Zebulunites according to those that were numbered of them threescore thousand and five hundred

  • English Detail: Zebulun grew to 60,500, maintaining a strong presence for the upcoming conquest.

  • Urdu Detail: زبولون کے خاندانوں کی کل تعداد ساٹھ ہزار پانچ سو تھی۔

Numbers 26:28–34

Verse: The sons of Joseph after their families were Manasseh and Ephraim… These are the families of Manasseh and those that were numbered of them fifty and two thousand and seven hundred

  • English Detail: Joseph is represented by two tribes. Manasseh showed massive growth, increasing by over 20,000 men.

  • Urdu Detail: یوسف کے بیٹوں منسّی اور افرائیم کے خاندان۔ منسّی کے قبیلے میں بہت برکت ہوئی اور ان کی تعداد باون ہزار سات سو تک جا پہنچی۔

Numbers 26:35–37

Verse: These are the sons of Ephraim after their families… These are the families of the sons of Ephraim according to those that were numbered of them thirty and two thousand and five hundred

  • English Detail: Ephraim decreased slightly but remained a central tribe in the history of Israel.

  • Urdu Detail: افرائیم کے خاندانوں کی گنتی بتیس ہزار پانچ سو تھی۔

Numbers 26:38–39

Verse: The sons of Benjamin after their families of Bela the family of the Belaites of Ashbel the family of the Ashbelites of Ahiram the family of the Ahiramites…

  • English Detail: This lists the sub-families of Benjamin, who would later occupy the territory including Jerusalem.
