Numbers 2:28 – 2:34: The Camp of Israel

Numbers 2:28

Verse: And his host and those that were numbered of them were forty and one thousand and five hundred

  • English Explanation: This verse confirms the count of the tribe of Asher, led by Pagiel. They contributed 41,500 fighting men to the camp of Dan.

  • Urdu Explanation: اس آیت میں قبیلہ آشر کے لشکر کی تعداد بتائی گئی ہے جو کہ اکتالیس ہزار پانچ سو تھی۔ یہ دان کے کیمپ کا حصہ تھے۔

Numbers 2:29

Verse: Then the tribe of Naphtali and the captain of the children of Naphtali shall be Ahira the son of Enan

  • English Explanation: Ahira, son of Enan, is appointed as the leader of the tribe of Naphtali, which was the final tribe listed in the northern division.

  • Urdu Explanation: اس کے بعد نفتالی کا قبیلہ ہے اور نفتالی کے بیٹوں کا سردار اخیرہ بن عینان مقرر کیا گیا۔

Numbers 2:30

Verse: And his host and those that were numbered of them were fifty and three thousand and four hundred

  • English Explanation: The military strength of the tribe of Naphtali is recorded as 53,400 men ready for battle.

  • Urdu Explanation: نفتالی کے لشکر کی کل تعداد تریپن ہزار چار سو تھی جو جنگ کے لیے تیار تھے۔

Numbers 2:31

Verse: All they that were numbered in the camp of Dan were an hundred thousand and fifty and seven thousand and six hundred They shall go hindmost with their standards

  • English Explanation: The total strength of the northern camp (Dan, Asher, and Naphtali) was 157,600. They served as the “rear guard” for the entire nation during travel.

  • Urdu Explanation: دان کے کیمپ کی کل تعداد ایک لاکھ ستاون ہزار چھ سو تھی۔ یہ لشکر کے سب سے پیچھے اپنے جھنڈوں کے ساتھ چلتے تھے۔

Numbers 2:32

Verse: These are those which were numbered of the children of Israel by the house of their fathers all those that were numbered of the camps throughout their hosts were six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty

  • English Explanation: The total census of the twelve tribes (excluding Levi) reached 603,550 men. This demonstrates God’s fulfillment of the promise to multiply Abraham’s descendants.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہ بنی اسرائیل کے وہ لوگ تھے جو اپنے باپ دادا کے گھرانوں کے مطابق گنے گئے۔ تمام کیمپوں کی کل تعداد چھ لاکھ تین ہزار پانچ سو پچاس تھی۔

Numbers 2:33

Verse: But the Levites were not numbered among the children of Israel as the LORD commanded Moses

  • English Explanation: Obedient to God’s specific command, the Levites were not included in the general military census because their service was religious, not combat-oriented.

  • Urdu Explanation: لیکن لاویوں کو بنی اسرائیل کے ساتھ نہیں گنا گیا کیونکہ خداوند نے موسیٰ کو یہی حکم دیا تھا کہ وہ صرف مذہبی خدمت کے لیے ہیں۔

Numbers 2:34

Verse: And the children of Israel did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses so they pitched by their standards and so they set forward every one after their families according to the house of their fathers

  • English Explanation: The Israelites displayed perfect obedience, organizing their camp and their marches exactly as God instructed.

  • Urdu Explanation: اور بنی اسرائیل نے بالکل ویسا ہی کیا جیسا خداوند نے موسیٰ کو حکم دیا تھا۔ وہ اپنے جھنڈوں کے نیچے ڈیرے ڈالتے اور اپنے خاندانوں کے مطابق کوچ کرتے تھے۔

Numbers 3:1 – 3:27: The Priesthood and Levites

Numbers 3:1

Verse: These also are the generations of Aaron and Moses in the day that the LORD spake with Moses in mount Sinai

  • English Explanation: This shifts the focus to the lineage of the spiritual leaders, Aaron and Moses, specifically around the time of the Sinai revelation.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہ ہارون اور موسیٰ کا نسب نامہ ہے اس وقت کا جب خداوند نے کوہِ سینا پر موسیٰ سے کلام کیا۔

Numbers 3:2

Verse: And these are the names of the sons of Aaron Nadab the firstborn and Abihu Eleazar and Ithamar

  • English Explanation: Aaron had four sons who were designated for the priesthood. Nadab was the eldest.

  • Urdu Explanation: ہارون کے بیٹوں کے نام یہ ہیں: پہلوٹھا ندب، پھر ابیہو، الیعزر اور اتمر۔

Numbers 3:3

Verse: These are the names of the sons of Aaron the priests which were anointed whom he consecrated to minister in the priest’s office

  • English Explanation: These men were officially anointed and set apart through a sacred ceremony to serve as mediators between God and the people.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہ ہارون کے بیٹوں کے نام ہیں جو مسح کیے ہوئے کاہن تھے جنہیں کہانت کی خدمت کے لیے مخصوص کیا گیا تھا۔

Numbers 3:4

Verse: And Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD when they offered strange fire before the LORD in the wilderness of Sinai and they had no children and Eleazar and Ithamar ministered in the priest’s office in the sight of Aaron their father

  • English Explanation: Nadab and Abihu were struck down for offering “unauthorized fire.” Since they died childless, the priesthood continued through Eleazar and Ithamar.

  • Urdu Explanation: ندب اور ابیہو خداوند کے سامنے ہلاک ہو گئے جب انہوں نے سینا کے بیابان میں غیر آگ پیش کی۔ ان کی کوئی اولاد نہ تھی، لہذا الیعزر اور اتمر نے اپنے باپ ہارون کے سامنے خدمت انجام دی۔

Numbers 3:5 – 3:6

Verse: And the LORD spake unto Moses saying Bring the tribe of Levi near and present them before Aaron the priest that they may minister unto him

  • English Explanation: God instructs Moses to formally assign the tribe of Levi to assist Aaron, making them helpers in the sacred work.

  • Urdu Explanation: خداوند نے موسیٰ سے کہا کہ لاوی کے قبیلے کو نزدیک لا اور انہیں ہارون کاہن کے سامنے پیش کر تاکہ وہ اس کی خدمت کریں۔

Numbers 3:7 – 3:8

Verse: And they shall keep his charge and the charge of the whole congregation before the tabernacle of the congregation to do the service of the tabernacle And they shall keep all the instruments of the tabernacle…

  • English Explanation: The Levites were responsible for the maintenance, guarding, and transportation of the Tabernacle and its sacred furniture.

  • Urdu Explanation: وہ خیمہ اجتماع کے سامنے ہارون اور تمام جماعت کی ذمہ داریوں کو سنبھالیں گے اور مسکن کے تمام برتنوں اور آلات کی حفاظت کریں گے۔

Numbers 3:9 – 3:10

Verse: And thou shalt give the Levites unto Aaron and to his sons… And thou shalt appoint Aaron and his sons and they shall wait on their priest’s office and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death

  • English Explanation: The Levites were “gifts” to the priests. Only Aaron’s line could be priests; any unauthorized person attempting to perform priestly duties faced the death penalty.

  • Urdu Explanation: تو لاویوں کو ہارون اور اس کے بیٹوں کے سپرد کر دے۔ ہارون اور اس کے بیٹے کہانت کا کام سنبھالیں گے، اور اگر کوئی اجنبی اس خدمت کے قریب آئے گا تو وہ مار ڈالا جائے گا۔

Numbers 3:11 – 3:13

Verse: And I behold I have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel instead of all the firstborn… because all the firstborn are mine…

  • English Explanation: God explains that the Levites are His special possession, taken in place of the firstborn sons of all Israelite families, whom God spared in Egypt.

  • Urdu Explanation: خداوند نے فرمایا کہ میں نے بنی اسرائیل کے تمام پہلوٹھوں کے بدلے لاویوں کو اپنے لیے چن لیا ہے۔ مصر میں پہلوٹھوں کی حفاظت کی یاد میں تمام پہلوٹھے میرے ہیں۔

Numbers 3:14 – 3:16

Verse: And the LORD spake unto Moses… Number the children of Levi… every male from a month old and upward…

  • English Explanation: Unlike the military census (from age 20), the Levite census included every male from one month old, marking them as dedicated to God from infancy.

  • Urdu Explanation: خداوند کے حکم کے مطابق موسیٰ نے لاویوں کو ان کے خاندانوں کے مطابق گنا۔ ہر ایک مرد جو ایک ماہ یا اس سے زائد عمر کا تھا، گنا گیا۔

Numbers 3:17 – 3:20

Verse: And these were the sons of Levi by their names Gershon and Kohath and Merari…

  • English Explanation: Levi had three sons: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. These three families formed the sub-divisions of the Levites, each with specific duties.

  • Urdu Explanation: لاوی کے بیٹوں کے نام یہ تھے: جیرشون، قہات اور مراری۔ انہی سے لاویوں کے مختلف خاندان وجود میں آئے۔

Numbers 3:21 – 3:22

Verse: Of Gershon was the family of the Libnites and the family of the Shimites… those that were numbered of them… were seven thousand and five hundred

  • English Explanation: The Gershonite branch consisted of 7,500 males.

  • Urdu Explanation: جیرشون کے خاندانوں کی تعداد سات ہزار پانچ سو تھی، جن میں لبنی اور شمعی کے خاندان شامل تھے۔

Numbers 3:23 – 3:26

Verse: The families of the Gershonites shall pitch behind the tabernacle westward… And the charge of the sons of Gershon… shall be the tabernacle and the tent the covering thereof…

  • English Explanation: The Gershonites camped on the West side. Their specific job was to carry the curtains, coverings, and hangings of the Tabernacle.

  • Urdu Explanation: جیرشونیوں کے خاندان مسکن کے پیچھے مغرب کی طرف ڈیرہ ڈالیں گے۔ ان کی ذمہ داری مسکن کے پردوں، غلافوں اور چھت کی حفاظت اور انہیں لے جانا تھا۔

Numbers 3:27

Verse: And of Kohath was the family of the Amramites and the family of the Izeharites and the family of the Hebronites and the family of the Uzzielites these are the families of the Kohathites

  • English Explanation: The Kohathites were divided into four main families. This group was particularly significant as Moses and Aaron belonged to the Amramite branch.

  • Urdu Explanation: قہات سے عمرامی، اضہاری، حبرونی اور عزیلی خاندان نکلے۔ یہ قہاتیوں کے خاندان کہلاتے ہیں۔
