Verse-by-Verse Commentary

Numbers 4:40

Verse: Even those that were numbered of them throughout their families by the house of their fathers were two thousand and six hundred and thirty English Explanation: This concludes the count for the families of Gershon. A total of 2,630 men were eligible for work in the Tabernacle. Urdu Explanation: یہ جیرشون کے خاندانوں کی گنتی کا اختتام ہے۔ کل 2,630 مرد خیمہِ اجتماع کی خدمت کے لیے موزوں پائے گئے۔

Numbers 4:41

Verse: These are they that were numbered of the families of the sons of Gershon of all that might do service in the tabernacle of the congregation whom Moses and Aaron did number according to the commandment of the LORD English Explanation: Moses and Aaron followed God’s specific instructions to identify those capable of performing the sacred duties assigned to the Gershonites. Urdu Explanation: موسیٰ اور ہارون نے خُداوند کے حکم کے مطابق ان تمام مردوں کو شمار کیا جو جیرشون کے خاندان سے تعلق رکھتے تھے اور خیمہِ اجتماع میں خدمت کر سکتے تھے۔

Numbers 4:42-44

Verse: And those that were numbered of the families of the sons of Merari… were three thousand and two hundred English Explanation: The census moves to the Merari family. Their count includes men aged 30 to 50, totaling 3,200 workers. Urdu Explanation: یہاں مراری کے خاندانوں کی گنتی کا ذکر ہے۔ 30 سے 50 سال کی عمر کے کل 3,200 مرد خدمت کے لیے چُنے گئے۔

Numbers 4:45-48

Verse: All those that were numbered of the Levites… were eight thousand and five hundred and fourscore English Explanation: The grand total of all Levite workers (Kohathites, Gershonites, and Merarites) was 8,580 men. Each had a specific “burden” or task. Urdu Explanation: تمام لاویوں (قہاتی، جیرشونی، اور مراری) کی کل تعداد 8,580 تھی۔ ہر ایک کو اس کی خدمت اور بوجھ اٹھانے کے مطابق مقرر کیا گیا تھا۔

Numbers 4:49

Verse: According to the commandment of the LORD they were numbered by the hand of Moses every one according to his service and according to his burden thus were they numbered of him as the LORD commanded Moses English Explanation: Organization was not human-made but divine. Every man knew exactly what he was responsible for during the transport of the Tabernacle. Urdu Explanation: یہ انتظام انسانی نہیں بلکہ الہی تھا۔ ہر شخص کو معلوم تھا کہ خیمہِ اجتماع کی منتقلی کے دوران اس کی کیا ذمہ داری ہے۔


Chapter 5: Purity and Restitution

Numbers 5:1-4

Verse: Command the children of Israel that they put out of the camp every leper… as the LORD spake unto Moses so did the children of Israel English Explanation: To maintain the holiness of the camp where God dwells, those with infectious diseases or ceremonial uncleanness were moved outside the camp. Urdu Explanation: خیمہ گاہ کی پاکیزگی برقرار رکھنے کے لیے، کوڑھیوں اور ناپاک لوگوں کو کیمپ سے باہر رکھنے کا حکم دیا گیا کیونکہ خُدا وہاں بستا تھا۔

Numbers 5:5-8

Verse: When a man or woman shall commit any sin that men commit… he shall recompense his trespass… and add unto it the fifth part thereof English Explanation: If someone wrongs another, they must confess, pay back the full amount, and add a 20% penalty. If no relative exists to receive it, the payment goes to the Lord/Priest. Urdu Explanation: اگر کوئی کسی کا حق مارے، تو اسے اعتراف کرنا ہوگا اور پوری رقم کے ساتھ پانچواں حصہ (20 فیصد) بطور جرمانہ ادا کرنا ہوگا۔ اگر وارث نہ ہو تو یہ حق کاہن کا ہوگا۔

Numbers 5:9-10

Verse: And every offering of all the holy things… which they bring unto the priest shall be his English Explanation: This establishes the rights of the priests to receive the holy offerings brought by the people. Urdu Explanation: یہ آیت واضح کرتی ہے کہ لوگوں کی طرف سے لائے گئے مقدس ہدیوں پر کاہن کا حق ہے۔

Numbers 5:11-15

Verse: If any man’s wife go aside… then shall the man bring his wife unto the priest… it is an offering of jealousy English Explanation: This introduces the “Law of Jealousy.” If a husband suspects adultery without proof, he brings her to the priest with a specific barley offering. Urdu Explanation: یہاں “غیرت کے قانون” کا ذکر ہے۔ اگر شوہر کو بیوی پر شک ہو لیکن گواہ نہ ہوں، تو وہ اسے کاہن کے پاس جو کے ہدیے کے ساتھ لائے گا۔

Numbers 5:16-20

Verse: And the priest shall bring her near and set her before the LORD… and the priest shall charge her by an oath English Explanation: The priest prepares “bitter water” containing dust from the Tabernacle floor. The woman is put under oath to reveal her innocence or guilt before God. Urdu Explanation: کاہن عورت کو خُداوند کے حضور کھڑا کرے گا اور مقدس پانی میں خیمہِ اجتماع کی خاک ملا کر اسے “کڑوا پانی” تیار کر کے دے گا اور اس سے قسم لے گا۔
