Revelation Chapter 17 (Verses 13–18)

Revelation 17:13

Verse: These have one mind and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.

The global powers (“these”) willingly surrender their sovereignty, military might, and political authority to a singular corrupt entity known as “the beast” (the Antichrist), working toward a singular evil agenda.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): اس آیت میں دنیاوی طاقتوں کے ایکا یا اتحاد کا ذکر ہے۔ یہ تمام قوتیں ایک ذہن اور ایک سوچ کے مالک ہوں گی اور اپنی مرضی سے اپنی تمام تر سیاسی اور فوجی طاقت “وحشی حیوان” (دجالی نظام) کے سپرد کر دیں گی تاکہ اس کے ایجنڈے کو پورا کیا جا سکے۔

Revelation 17:14

Verse: These shall make war with the Lamb and the Lamb shall overcome them for he is Lord of lords and King of kings and they that are with him are called and chosen and faithful.

  • English Explanation: A cosmic showdown is predicted. The unified global forces attempt to wage war against Jesus Christ (“the Lamb”). However, victory belongs entirely to Christ because of His absolute supremacy as the ultimate Ruler. His followers are described by three distinct qualities: they are called, chosen, and actively faithful.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): یہ متحد قوتیں “برّہ” (یسوع مسیح) کے خلاف جنگ لڑیں گی، لیکن برّہ ان پر غالب آ جائے گا۔ کیونکہ وہ خداوندوں کا خداوند اور بادشاہوں کا بادشاہ ہے۔ اس کے ساتھ موجود لوگ وہ ہیں جو بلائے گئے، چنے گئے اور وفادار ہیں۔ یعنی باطل پر حق کی حتمی فتح ہوگی۔

Revelation 17:15

Verse: And he saith unto me The waters which thou sawest where the whore sitteth are peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues.

  • English Explanation: Here, biblical symbolism is explicitly decoded. The “waters” represent the global population—diverse demographics, ethnicities, nations, and language groups. This indicates that the corrupt spiritual and political system (“the whore”) holds immense global influence over all mankind.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): یہاں مکاشفہ کی علامت کی وضاحت کی گئی ہے۔ فرشتہ بتاتا ہے کہ جو “پانی” تم نے دیکھا جہاں وہ فاحشہ (گمراہ کن نظام) بیٹھی ہے، وہ دراصل دنیا کے لوگ، ہجوم، قومیں اور زبانیں ہیں۔ اس کا مطلب ہے کہ اس کا اثر کسی ایک ملک پر نہیں بلکہ پوری دنیا پر ہوگا۔

Revelation 17:16

Verse: And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast these shall hate the whore and shall make her desolate and naked and shall eat her flesh and burn her with fire.

  • English Explanation: A dramatic betrayal occurs. The “ten horns” (ten political leaders or kingdoms) who originally allied with the corrupt system will turn against it. They will strip her of wealth, expose her corruption, destroy her resources (“eat her flesh”), and completely annihilate her. Evil ultimately destroys itself.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): اس آیت میں ایک بہت بڑا دھوکہ دکھایا گیا ہے۔ وہ دس سینگ (دس بادشاہ یا طاقتیں) جو پہلے اس فاحشہ کے ساتھ تھے، اب اس سے نفرت کرنے لگیں گے۔ وہ اسے تباہ و برباد کر دیں گے، اس کی دولت چھین لیں گے اور اسے آگ سے جلا دیں گے۔ یہ ظاہر کرتا ہے کہ برائی آخرکار خود اپنے ہی ساتھیوں کے ہاتھوں ختم ہوتی ہے۔

Revelation 17:17

Verse: For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will and to agree and give their kingdom unto the beast until the words of God shall be fulfilled.

  • English Explanation: This underscores divine sovereignty. Even though these rulers act out of evil intent, God is directing history. He allows them to unite and hand authority to the beast to fulfill His prophetic timeline. Human rebellion ultimately serves God’s sovereign judgment.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): یہ آیت خدا کی حاکمیت کو ظاہر کرتی ہے۔ اگرچہ یہ بادشاہ اپنی مرضی کر رہے ہیں، لیکن خدا نے ان کے دلوں میں یہ بات ڈالی ہے کہ وہ اس کے مقصد کو پورا کریں۔ وہ متفق ہو کر اپنی بادشاہی اس وقت تک وحشی حیوان کو دے دیں گے جب تک خدا کی باتیں پوری نہ ہو جائیں۔

Revelation 17:18

Verse: And the woman which thou sawest is that great city which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

  • English Explanation: The “woman” is explicitly identified as a “great city.” Historically and prophetically, this represents a massive center of economic, political, and spiritual corruption that dominates world leaders and controls global affairs.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): اس باب کی آخری آیت میں وضاحت ہے کہ وہ عورت جسے تم نے دیکھا، وہ ایک بڑا شہر ہے جو زمین کے بادشاہوں پر حکومت کرتا ہے۔ یہ شہر دنیاوی، سیاسی اور معاشی گمراہی کا مرکز ہے جو پوری دنیا کو اپنے قابو میں رکھتا ہے۔

Revelation Chapter 18 (Verses 1–18)

Revelation 18:1

Verse: And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven having great power and the earth was lightened with his glory.

  • English Explanation: John sees a new vision marked by immense divine authority. A powerful angel descends from heaven, emitting a brilliant glory so intense that it illuminates the entire earth, signaling the supreme importance of the message he is about to deliver.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): ان باتوں کے بعد، یوحنا نے ایک اور فرشتے کو آسمان سے اترتے دیکھا جس کے پاس بڑی قدرت تھی۔ اس فرشتے کے جلال سے پوری زمین روشن ہو گئی۔ یہ اس بات کی علامت ہے کہ اب خدا کی طرف سے ایک بہت بڑا اور اہم فیصلہ سنایا جانے والا ہے۔

Revelation 18:2

Verse: And he cried mightily with a strong voice saying Babylon the great is fallen is fallen and is become the habitation of devils and the hold of every foul spirit and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.

  • English Explanation: The angel announces the total collapse of “Babylon the great.” Her physical, economic, and moral downfall is so absolute that she is transformed into a desolate wasteland inhabited only by demons, foul spirits, and unclean birds—symbols of complete spiritual death.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): فرشتے نے بڑی بلند آواز سے پکار کر کہا کہ “بڑا بابل گر گیا، وہ گر گیا!” وہ شہر جو کبھی شان و شوکت کا مرکز تھا، اب بدروحوں کا مسکن، ناپاک ارواح کا گڑھ اور ہر قسم کے ناپاک اور گھناؤنے پرندوں کا قید خانہ بن چکا ہے۔ یعنی اس کی تباہی مکمل اور حتمی ہے۔

Revelation 18:3

Verse: For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.

  • English Explanation: This verse states the reasons for Babylon’s judgment. She corrupted the world in three ways: spiritually (misleading the nations), politically (corrupting world leaders), and economically (making merchants wealthy through luxury and exploitation).

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): بابل کی تباہی کی وجہ یہ ہے کہ دنیا کی تمام قوموں نے اس کی گمراہی اور عیاشی کی شراب پی۔ زمین کے بادشاہوں نے اس کے ساتھ مل کر غلط کام کیے اور دنیا کے تاجر اس کی بے پناہ عیاشیوں اور آسائشوں کی وجہ سے امیر ہو گئے۔ اس نے پوری دنیا کو اخلاقی اور معاشی طور پر تباہ کیا۔

Revelation 18:4

Verse: And I heard another voice from heaven saying Come out of her my people that ye be not partakers of her sins and that ye receive not of her plagues.

  • English Explanation: A compassionate warning from God to His true believers. He commands them to culturally and spiritually detach themselves from Babylon’s corrupt lifestyle so they do not participate in her sins or get caught in her impending, destructive judgments (plagues).

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): آسمان سے ایک اور آواز آئی جس نے خدا کے لوگوں کو خبردار کیا کہ “اے میرے لوگو، اس میں سے نکل آؤ۔” خدا اپنے لوگوں کو حکم دیتا ہے کہ وہ اس فاسد نظام سے الگ ہو جائیں تاکہ وہ اس کے گناہوں میں شریک نہ ہوں اور ان آفتوں سے بچ سکیں جو اس پر نازل ہونے والی ہیں۔

Revelation 18:5

Verse: For her sins have reached unto heaven and God hath remembered her iniquities.

  • English Explanation: Babylon’s wickedness has accumulated to an unbearable degree, metaphorically piling up all the way to heaven. God has not forgotten or ignored her crimes; the time for divine justice and accountability has arrived.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): اس کے گناہ اتنے بڑھ چکے ہیں کہ آسمان تک پہنچ گئے ہیں اور خدا نے اس کی بدکاریوں کو یاد کیا ہے۔ مطلب یہ کہ بابل کے گناہوں کا پیمانہ لبریز ہو چکا ہے اور اب خدا کے انصاف کا وقت آ گیا ہے، وہ کسی ظلم کو نظر انداز نہیں کرے گا۔

Revelation 18:6

Verse: Reward her even as she rewarded you and double unto her double according to her works in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.

  • English Explanation: The law of retribution is enforced. Babylon is commanded to receive double the torment and suffering she inflicted on others. The “cup” of misery she forced others to drink will now be filled to the brim for her own consumption.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): انصاف کا اصول یہ ہے کہ جیسا کرو گے ویسا بھرو گے۔ بابل کو اس کے کاموں کے مطابق دوگنا بدلہ دیا جائے گا۔ جس دکھ اور تکلیف کا پیالہ اس نے دوسروں کو پلایا تھا، اب وہی پیالہ دوگنا کر کے اسے خود پینا پڑے گا۔

Revelation 18:7

Verse: How much she hath glorified herself and lived deliciously so much torment and sorrow give her for she saith in her heart I sit a queen and am no widow and shall see no sorrow.

  • English Explanation: Babylon’s downfall is directly proportional to her pride and luxury. She possessed an arrogant mindset, believing she was untouchable, secure (“I sit a queen”), and immune to suffering. Her pride invites swift, humbling judgment.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): بابل نے جتنا اپنے آپ کو بڑا سمجھا اور عیاشی کی زندگی گزاری، اسے اتنی ہی تکلیف اور غم دیا جائے گا۔ کیونکہ وہ اپنے دل میں کہتی تھی کہ “میں ملکہ بن کر بیٹھی ہوں، میں بیوہ نہیں ہوں اور کبھی غم نہ دیکھوں گی۔” اس کا یہ تکبر ہی اس کی بربادی کی وجہ بنا۔

Revelation 18:8

Verse: Therefore shall her plagues come in one day death and mourning and famine and she shall be utterly burned with fire for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.

  • English Explanation: Because of her arrogance, judgment will strike with terrifying speed—”in one day.” She will experience sudden death, famine, and destruction by fire. Her immense human strength is nothing compared to the ultimate power of the Lord God who judges her.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): اس کے اسی تکبر کی وجہ سے اس کی آفتیں مثلاً موت، ماتم اور قحط ایک ہی دن میں اچانک آ جائیں گے اور وہ آگ سے بالکل بھسم کر دی جائے گی۔ کیونکہ وہ خداوند خدا جو اس کا انصاف کرتا ہے، نہایت طاقتور اور قادرِ مطلق ہے۔

Revelation 18:9

Verse: And the kings of the earth who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her shall bewail her and lament for her when they shall see the smoke of her burning.

  • English Explanation: The political leaders who once partnered with Babylon and enjoyed her luxuries will mourn her demise. However, their weeping is self-serving; they are terrified because their source of power, pleasure, and corrupt alliance is permanently gone.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): زمین کے وہ بادشاہ جنہوں نے اس کے ساتھ مل کر عیاشی کی تھی، جب اس کے جلنے کا دھواں دیکھیں گے تو اس کے لیے روئیں گے اور پیٹیں گے۔ وہ اس کی بربادی پر افسوس کریں گے کیونکہ ان کا عیش و آرام اور سیاسی فائدہ ختم ہو چکا ہوگا۔

Revelation 18:10

Verse: Standing afar off for the fear of her torment saying Alas alas that great city Babylon that mighty city for in one hour is thy judgment come.

  • English Explanation: The world rulers watch the destruction from a safe distance, terrified that they might be caught in the same judgment. They marvel at how a civilization so massive, wealthy, and stable could be completely brought to ruin in a single hour.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): وہ بادشاہ اس کی تکلیف کے ڈر سے دور کھڑے ہو کر کہیں گے “افسوس! افسوس! اے بابل، اے بڑے اور طاقتور شہر! کیونکہ ایک ہی گھنٹے میں تجھ پر عدالت نازل ہو گئی اور تو تباہ ہو گیا۔” وہ اس کی اتنی جلدی بربادی پر حیران اور خوفزدہ ہوں گے۔

Revelation 18:11

Verse: And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her for no man buyeth their merchandise any more.

  • English Explanation: The global economic system collapses alongside the city. Merchants cry and mourn, not out of genuine love for Babylon, but out of financial despair. Their primary economic hub is gone, and there is no longer a luxury market to buy their goods.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): دنیا کے تاجر بھی اس پر روئیں گے اور ماتم کریں گے، اس لیے نہیں کہ انہیں بابل سے ہمدردی ہے، بلکہ اس لیے کہ اب ان کا مال خریدنے والا کوئی نہیں رہا۔ اس شہر کی تباہی سے عالمی معیشت کا بہت بڑا مرکز تباہ ہو گیا۔

Revelation 18:12

Verse: The merchandise of gold and silver and precious stones and of pearls and fine linen and purple and silk and scarlet and all thyine wood and all manner vessels of ivory and all manner vessels of most precious wood and of brass and iron and marble.

  • English Explanation: This verse lists the premium commodities of global trade: precious metals (gold, silver), luxury apparel (silk, purple linen), and high-end manufacturing materials (ivory, marble, precious wood). This underscores Babylon’s status as a hyper-materialistic, consumer-driven empire.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): اس آیت میں دنیا کی قیمتی ترین چیزوں کی فہرست دی گئی ہے جیسے سونا، چاندی، قیمتی پتھر، موتی، باریک کتان، ریشم، ہاتھی دانت اور قیمتی لکڑی کے برتن۔ یہ ظاہر کرتا ہے کہ بابل مادہ پرستی اور دنیاوی عیش و عشرت کا کتنا بڑا مرکز تھا۔

Revelation 18:13

Verse: And cinnamon and odours and ointments and frankincense and wine and oil and fine flour and wheat and beasts and sheep and horses and chariots and slaves and souls of men.

  • English Explanation: The inventory of luxury items continues, concluding with a chilling revelation: Babylon traded in “slaves and souls of men.” The corrupt system treated human beings as mere financial commodities, exploiting both their physical labor and spiritual well-being.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): تجارت کی اشیاء کا ذکر جاری رکھتے ہوئے خوشبوؤں، شراب، اناج اور مویشیوں کا ذکر ہے۔ لیکن سب سے ہولناک بات آخر میں کہی گئی ہے کہ وہ “غلاموں اور انسانوں کی جانوں” کی تجارت کرتے تھے۔ یعنی اس نظام میں انسانیت کی کوئی قدر نہ تھی اور انسانوں کو صرف ایک تجارتی مال سمجھا جاتا تھا۔

Revelation 18:14

Verse: And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee and thou shalt find them no more at all.

  • English Explanation: The voice addresses Babylon directly. All the materialistic desires, rare delicacies, luxury assets, and elite pleasures her soul craved have been permanently stripped away. She is left utterly bankrupt, never to recover her former glory.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): بابل کو مخاطب کر کے کہا جا رہا ہے کہ جن پھلوں اور عیاشیوں کی تیری روح کو ہوس تھی، وہ تجھ سے دور ہو گئے ہیں۔ تمام لذیذ، نفیس اور خوبصورت چیزیں اب ختم ہو چکی ہیں اور تو انہیں کبھی دوبارہ حاصل نہیں کر پائے گی۔

Revelation 18:15

Verse: The merchants of these things which were made rich by her shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment weeping and wailing.

  • English Explanation: The wealthy elite and corporate entities who built their fortunes through Babylon’s corrupt market stand at a distance. Paralyzed by fear of suffering a similar financial and physical fate, they can do nothing but weep and wail bitterly.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): ان تمام قیمتی چیزوں کے تاجر، جو بابل کی وجہ سے امیر بنے تھے، اس کی عبرتناک سزا کو دیکھ کر خوف کے مارے دور کھڑے ہوں گے اور روئیں گے اور چیخ و پکار کریں گے کیونکہ ان کی دولت کا ذریعہ ختم ہو چکا ہے۔

Revelation 18:16

Verse: And saying Alas alas that great city that was clothed in fine linen and purple and scarlet and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls.

  • English Explanation: The merchants lament the loss of the empire’s outward beauty. They remember the city as a majestic entity draped in royal colors (purple, scarlet) and adorned with priceless jewelry—a stark, shocking contrast to the smoking ruin it has suddenly become.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): وہ کہیں گے کہ “افسوس! افسوس! وہ بڑا شہر جو قیمتی کپڑے (کتان، ارغوانی، سرخ) پہنتا تھا اور سونے، قیمتی پتھروں اور موتیوں سے آراستہ تھا، وہ کیسے برباد ہو گیا۔” وہ اس کی ظاہری چمک دمک کے ختم ہونے پر ماتم کرتے ہیں۔

Revelation 18:17

Verse: For in one hour so great riches is come to nought And every shipmaster and all the company in ships and sailors and as many as trade by sea stood afar off.

  • English Explanation: The global supply chain collapses instantly. In just one hour, unimaginable wealth is rendered completely worthless. Maritime industries—ship captains, transport companies, and sailors who moved goods across the globe—stand back in absolute shock and horror.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): کیونکہ ایک ہی گھنٹے میں اتنی بڑی دولت خاک میں مل گئی۔ دنیا کا پورا تجارتی نظام اور سپلائی چین تباہ ہو گئی۔ جہازوں کے کپتان، ملاح اور سمندری تجارت کرنے والے سب دور کھڑے ہو کر اس عبرتناک منظر کو حیرت سے دیکھیں گے۔

Revelation 18:18

Verse: And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning saying What city is like unto this great city.

  • English Explanation: As the maritime traders watch the smoke Billow from the burning metropolis, they cry out in disbelief. Their rhetorical question, “What city is like unto this great city?” emphasizes that no civilization seemed grander or more permanent, making its sudden, fiery destruction completely mind-boggling.

  • Urdu Explanation (تفصیل): جب انہوں نے اس کے جلنے کا دھواں دیکھا تو وہ پکار اٹھے کہ “اس بڑے شہر جیسا اور کون سا شہر تھا؟” ان کا یہ کہنا ظاہر کرتا ہے کہ دنیا کی نظر میں یہ شہر اتنا عظیم اور ناقابلِ تسخیر تھا کہ اس کی اچانک تباہی پر یقین کرنا عقل سے باہر تھا۔
