Context of Exodus 4:7
Moses was standing before God at the burning bush. God had revealed His purpose for Moses and instructed him to go to Egypt. Moses, however, raised several concerns. He wondered whether the Israelites would believe him or accept his message.
God therefore gave Moses specific signs.
The first sign involved Moses’ staff becoming a serpent and then becoming a staff again. The second sign involved Moses’ hand. God instructed him to put his hand into his bosom. When Moses took it out, it appeared diseased. Then God told him to put it back again.
