Genesis 40 takes place during Joseph’s imprisonment in Egypt. Joseph had previously been sold by his brothers and taken into Egypt. Although he had experienced great injustice, God remained with him.
While Joseph was in prison, Pharaoh’s chief butler and chief baker were placed under the same guard. One night, both men dreamed dreams. When Joseph saw them the next morning, he noticed that they were sad and asked why.
