Genesis 6:5–8 presents one of the most serious moments in the Bible before the great Flood. These verses describe the spiritual condition of humanity during Noah’s generation. People had turned away from God to such an extent that evil had become a constant part of their thoughts, desires, and actions.
Verse 5 explains that God observed the entire earth and saw that human wickedness had reached an extreme level. The verse does not simply say that people occasionally committed sinful acts. Instead, it states that “every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” This emphasizes that corruption had become deeply rooted within humanity. Their inner motives, intentions, and desires consistently moved toward evil rather than goodness.
The Bible often teaches that outward actions begin with inward thoughts. God’s Grief
Genesis 6:6 says, “And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.”
