Explanation in English

The first phrase, “raging waves of the sea,” creates the image of a violent ocean storm. Waves can appear powerful and impressive, but they are also unstable and uncontrollable. Jude compares false teachers and corrupt individuals to these stormy waves because their actions create confusion, conflict, and destruction.

The ocean waves also reveal another important idea: they bring foam to the surface. The verse says they are “foaming out their own shame.” Foam may look large and visible, but it has no lasting substance. In the same way, people who act with pride, deception, or immoral behavior may attract attention, yet their lives eventually reveal emptiness and disgrace. Their words may be loud, but their actions expose their true character.

The second comparison is “wandering stars.” In ancient times, stars were used for navigation. Travelers depended on reliable stars to find their direction. A wandering or falling star, however, could not provide a trustworthy path. Jude uses this image to describe people who claim to provide spiritual guidance but are themselves lost.

A person who teaches others without truth or integrity can mislead many people. Like a star that does not remain in its proper place, such individuals move away from the path established by God. Their influence may appear bright for a time, but it does not lead people toward righteousness.

The phrase “to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever” describes judgment and separation from God. Jude emphasizes that wrongdoing does not escape God’s notice. Those who persist in rebellion and deception face serious consequences. The expression “blackness of darkness” represents complete exclusion from light, truth, and the goodness associated with God.

This verse also provides a warning for believers. It encourages people not to follow every voice that claims authority. Just as sailors need dependable stars for direction, believers need God’s truth to guide their lives. The verse calls for humility, wisdom, and careful examination of teachings and actions.

Jude 1:13 is therefore both a warning and a lesson. It warns against falsehood and destructive behavior, while also reminding faithful people to remain steady, truthful, and connected to God’s guidance.

Main Lessons from Jude 1:13
