Detailed Explanation in English

Revelation 5:5 is a powerful message of hope, victory, and the authority of Jesus Christ. In the previous verses, John sees a book in the right hand of the One sitting upon the throne. The book is sealed with seven seals, and a strong angel asks, “Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?” No one in heaven, on earth, or under the earth is found worthy to open it. Because of this, John begins to weep greatly.

Then one of the elders tells John, “Weep not.” This is an important turning point in the vision. John does not need to remain in sorrow because someone has been found worthy. The elder points him toward Jesus Christ, describing Him as “the Lion of the tribe of Juda” and “the Root of David.”

“Weep Not”

The words “Weep not” are words of comfort. John sees a situation that appears hopeless because nobody is worthy to open the book. Yet heaven knows something John has not yet seen. There is One who has overcome.

This teaches an important spiritual lesson: circumstances may appear impossible from a human perspective, but God has already provided the answer. John sees the problem first, but the elder directs his attention toward Christ.

There are moments when believers may also feel overwhelmed, disappointed, or uncertain about the future. Revelation 5:5 reminds us that sorrow does not have the final word. Christ has prevailed.

“The Lion of the Tribe of Juda”

The elder calls Jesus “the Lion of the tribe of Juda.” This title connects Jesus with the tribe of Judah and with the promises given through the Old Testament.

The lion is commonly associated with strength, courage, authority, and kingship. By calling Christ the Lion, the passage emphasizes His royal authority and victorious character.

The reference to Judah is also significant because the promised royal line was associated with Judah. Jesus is presented as the rightful King who possesses authority to accomplish God’s purposes.

This title shows that Jesus is not merely a teacher or prophet. He is the victorious King who possesses the authority necessary to open the book and its seals.

“The Root of David”

Jesus is also called “the Root of David.” This expression connects Him with King David and the promises concerning David’s royal line.

The title has a profound meaning. Jesus comes from the promised Davidic line according to His human lineage, yet He is also described as the Root of David. In other words, Christ is not merely another descendant in a royal family. He stands at the foundation of God’s redemptive purpose and is greater than David himself.

This title points to the fulfillment of God’s promises concerning the coming King and Messiah.

Throughout Scripture, God’s promises may sometimes appear to take a long time to reach their fulfillment. Revelation 5 shows that God’s plan has not failed. Everything ultimately points toward Christ.

“Hath Prevailed”

The central phrase of the verse is:

“Hath prevailed.”

This is the reason John is told to stop weeping.

Christ has prevailed. He has conquered and is worthy.

The victory of Jesus is not based upon worldly power, military strength, or human achievement. The following verses reveal the remarkable way in which John’s vision presents Christ: after hearing about the Lion, John sees a Lamb that appears to have been slain.

This connects Christ’s victory with His sacrificial death. Jesus conquered through His obedience, sacrifice, resurrection, and triumph over sin and death.

The victory of Christ is therefore both powerful and sacrificial. He is the Lion, the victorious King, and He is also the Lamb who gave Himself.

“To Open the Book”

The book in Revelation 5 represents an important part of God’s purposes and judgment that must be revealed and carried forward. Its seven seals indicate completeness and solemn divine authority.

No created being is able to open it. The requirement is not simply strength; the one who opens the book must be worthy.

Jesus alone is worthy.

This teaches that the ultimate authority over God’s redemptive plan belongs to Christ. Human beings cannot control the future. Kings, governments, philosophers, and powerful individuals cannot determine God’s final purpose. Christ is the One who has prevailed.

“To Loose the Seven Seals Thereof”

The seven seals emphasize the completeness and seriousness of what is contained in the book. To loose the seals is to begin the process by which what God has ordained is revealed and accomplished.

The next verses move the vision toward worship. Heaven recognizes the worthiness of Christ. The elders, living creatures, angels, and ultimately every creature are drawn into the praise of the One who has prevailed.

Revelation 5:5 therefore stands at the center of a dramatic transition: sorrow changes into hope, uncertainty changes into confidence, and searching for someone worthy ends with the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Spiritual Lessons from Revelation 5:5

1. Christ is worthy.
Jesus possesses the authority that no other person possesses. His worthiness is central to the entire vision.

2. Christ has prevailed.
The believer’s hope rests in Christ’s victory rather than human strength.

3. God’s promises are trustworthy.
The reference to Judah and David demonstrates continuity between God’s earlier promises and their fulfillment in Christ.

4. Fear and sorrow do not have the final word.
John was told, “Weep not.” The answer to his sorrow was not found in human ability but in Jesus.

5. Christ is both King and Savior.
The Lion represents victorious kingship, while the Lamb imagery that follows emphasizes sacrificial redemption.

6. God remains in control of history.
The sealed book is not beyond God’s authority. Christ is worthy to take it and open its seals.

“Weep not” — “مت رو۔”
