Detailed English Explanation

“Behold”

The verse begins with the word “Behold.” This is a word that calls attention to something important. Jesus is telling His people to pay close attention to what He is about to say.

In Scripture, such an expression often introduces an important announcement. The believers should not become distracted by their circumstances or by the opposition around them. Their attention must remain on Christ.

For Christians today, “Behold” can remind us to stop and consider the promises and warnings of Scripture. Life can become busy, difficult, and distracting, but the words of Jesus deserve careful attention.

“I come quickly”

Jesus says, “I come quickly.” This points to His promised coming. The New Testament repeatedly teaches that believers should live with an awareness that Christ will return.

The statement is not merely intended to create fear. It is also a source of hope and encouragement. The faithful church may experience difficulty for a season, but Christ has not forgotten His people. His coming means that faithfulness will ultimately be vindicated.

The expression “quickly” also encourages believers to remain spiritually prepared. People do not know the exact timing of Christ’s return. Therefore, the appropriate response is not speculation about dates but faithful living.

A Christian should ask: Am I remaining faithful to Christ today? Am I keeping His word? Am I living according to the faith I profess?

Christ’s return should encourage believers to remain watchful, obedient, and steadfast.

“Hold that fast which thou hast”

This is the central command of the verse.

Jesus tells the believers to hold fast to what they have. In context, the church at Philadelphia had demonstrated faithfulness. They had kept Christ’s word and had not denied His name.

To “hold fast” means to remain firm, to preserve what has been entrusted to us, and not to abandon our faith when circumstances become difficult.

The Christian life requires perseverance. Beginning well is important, but continuing faithfully is also essential.

Believers may face pressure from society, temptation, disappointment, persecution, false teaching, discouragement, or personal trials. These difficulties can tempt a person to compromise spiritual convictions.

Jesus therefore says, in effect, do not let go of the faithfulness you have already demonstrated.

Holding fast may involve:

  • Holding firmly to faith in Christ.
  • Remaining faithful to God’s Word.
  • Refusing to compromise biblical truth.
  • Continuing in prayer.
  • Remaining obedient during difficult circumstances.
  • Maintaining love for Christ.
  • Refusing to abandon Christian hope.
  • Persevering when answers to prayer seem delayed.

The command is not simply about possessing faith but about remaining faithful.

“That no man take thy crown”

The verse concludes with the warning, “that no man take thy crown.”

The crown represents reward, victory, honor, and the promised blessing associated with faithful perseverance. In the New Testament, crowns are frequently connected with the reward given by God to those who remain faithful.

The statement does not mean that another person can literally steal a physical crown from a believer. Rather, it is a serious call to perseverance. Believers should not allow other people, false teachings, temptations, or persecution to cause them to abandon their faithfulness.

The image of a crown also communicates victory. In the ancient world, a crown could represent recognition after a contest or victory. Scripture uses similar imagery to describe the reward awaiting those who faithfully follow Christ.

The message is therefore both comforting and challenging:

Remain faithful because your faithfulness matters.

The Message of Perseverance

Revelation 3:11 teaches that Christians should not become careless after experiencing spiritual growth.

A person may have a strong beginning but later become distracted. Someone may know God’s Word but gradually stop practicing it. A believer may be faithful during peaceful times but become discouraged during suffering.

Jesus calls His followers to continue.

Perseverance does not mean that Christians never experience weakness. It means that when difficulties come, they continue looking to Christ rather than abandoning Him.

The church at Philadelphia had “a little strength,” yet Christ commended them because they remained faithful. This teaches an important principle: spiritual success is not necessarily measured by worldly power, wealth, popularity, or influence.

A small and faithful church can be precious in the sight of God.

What Does “Hold Fast” Mean for Christians Today?

Revelation 3:11 has practical application for everyday Christian life.

1. Hold fast to God’s Word

The world contains many competing ideas about truth, morality, spirituality, and purpose. Christians are encouraged to remain grounded in Scripture.

God’s Word should not be abandoned simply because obedience becomes difficult.

2. Hold fast to faith in Jesus Christ

Faith can be tested through suffering, disappointment, unanswered questions, and difficult circumstances. This verse encourages believers to continue trusting Christ.

3. Do not allow opposition to control your faith

The church at Philadelphia experienced opposition, yet Jesus encouraged them to remain faithful.

Christians today may also encounter criticism or misunderstanding because of their beliefs. The proper response is not hatred or retaliation but faithful endurance.

4. Do not exchange eternal hope for temporary comfort

Temptation often offers immediate satisfaction while hiding long-term consequences. Revelation 3:11 encourages believers to keep their eyes on the eternal reward rather than surrendering their convictions for temporary advantages.

5. Remember that Christ is coming

The promise of Christ’s coming gives meaning to perseverance. Faithfulness is not wasted. Jesus sees the obedience of His people, even when other people do not.

Spiritual Lessons from Revelation 3:11

Revelation 3:11 contains several important spiritual lessons.

First, Christians need perseverance. Faith is not merely about how we begin; it also concerns how we continue.

Second, Christ’s return should influence how we live. Believers should remain spiritually prepared rather than becoming careless.

Third, spiritual possessions must be protected. The phrase “hold that fast which thou hast” encourages believers to preserve their faith, obedience, testimony, and commitment to Christ.

Fourth, faithfulness has eternal value. The crown represents the reward associated with remaining faithful.

Fifth, Christians should not allow other people to cause them to abandon Christ. Opposition may be real, but Christ’s promise is greater than the pressure believers face.

Revelation 3:11 — اردو میں تفصیلی وضاحت

مکمل آیت

“Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.” — Revelation 3:11

“I come quickly” — “میں جلد آنے والا ہوں”

“Hold that fast which thou hast” — “جو کچھ تمہارے پاس ہے اسے مضبوطی سے تھامے رہو”

“That no man take thy crown” — “تاکہ کوئی تمہارا تاج نہ لے لے”

“Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.”
