GENESIS – Chapter 50

Ge 50 17 Verse: So shall ye say unto Joseph Forgive I pray thee now the trespass of thy brethren and their sin for they did unto thee evil and now we pray thee forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father And Joseph wept when they spake unto him

  • English Explanation: After Jacob’s death, Joseph’s brothers feared retribution for their past cruelty. They sent a message claiming their father desired Joseph to forgive them. Joseph wept because his brothers still doubted his love and sincerity after all those years.

  • Urdu Explanation: یعقوبؑ کی وفات کے بعد یوسفؑ کے بھائی ڈر گئے کہ شاید اب یوسفؑ ان سے بدلہ لیں۔ انہوں نے پیغام بھیجا کہ ان کے والد کی وصیت تھی کہ انہیں معاف کر دیا جائے۔ یوسفؑ یہ سن کر رو پڑے کیونکہ وہ پہلے ہی انہیں دل سے معاف کر چکے تھے۔

Ge 50 18 Verse: And his brethren also went and fell down before his face and they said Behold we be thy servants

  • English Explanation: The brothers physically humbled themselves before Joseph, fulfilling the prophetic dreams Joseph had as a youth. They offered themselves as his slaves to atone for their sins.

  • Urdu Explanation: یوسفؑ کے بھائی ان کے سامنے گر گئے اور کہا کہ ہم آپ کے غلام ہیں۔ یہ اس خواب کی تعبیر تھی جو یوسفؑ نے بچپن میں دیکھا تھا۔

Ge 50 19 Verse: And Joseph said unto them Fear not for am I in the place of God

  • English Explanation: Joseph reassures them, acknowledging that judgment belongs to God alone, not to him. He refuses to take revenge because he respects God’s sovereignty.

  • Urdu Explanation: یوسفؑ نے انہیں تسلی دی اور کہا کہ ڈرو مت، کیا میں خدا کی جگہ ہوں؟ یعنی انصاف کرنا اور بدلہ لینا صرف خدا کا کام ہے۔

Ge 50 20 Verse: But as for you ye thought evil against me but God meant it unto good to bring to pass as it is this day to save much people alive

  • English Explanation: This is a key verse of the Bible. Joseph explains that while his brothers intended harm, God used their actions to orchestrate a greater good—the survival of many nations during the famine.

  • Urdu Explanation: تم نے میرے ساتھ برائی کا ارادہ کیا تھا لیکن خدا نے اسے نیکی میں بدل دیا تاکہ بہت سے لوگوں کی جانیں بچائی جا سکیں۔

Ge 50 21 Verse: Now therefore fear ye not I will nourish you and your little ones And he comforted them and spake kindly unto them

  • English Explanation: Joseph promises to provide for his brothers and their families, showing true kindness and full restoration of their relationship.

  • Urdu Explanation: انہوں نے اپنے بھائیوں کو یقین دلایا کہ وہ ان کی اور ان کے بچوں کی کفالت کریں گے اور ان سے نہایت نرمی سے بات کی۔

Ge 50 22 Verse: And Joseph dwelt in Egypt he and his father’s house and Joseph lived an hundred and ten years

  • English Explanation: Joseph remained a respected figure in Egypt, living a long life of 110 years alongside his extended family.

  • Urdu Explanation: یوسفؑ اور ان کے خاندان نے مصر میں قیام کیا اور یوسفؑ ایک سو دس سال کی عمر تک زندہ رہے۔

Ge 50 23 Verse: And Joseph saw Ephraim’s children of the third generation the children also of Machir the son Manasseh were brought up upon Joseph’s knees

  • English Explanation: Joseph was blessed to see his great-grandchildren, indicating a life of fulfillment and family prosperity.

  • Urdu Explanation: یوسفؑ نے اپنی تیسری نسل کو دیکھا، یعنی اپنے بیٹوں افرائیم اور منسی کی اولاد کو اپنی گود میں کھلایا۔

Ge 50 24 Verse: And Joseph said unto his brethren I die and God will surely visit you and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham to Isaac and to Jacob

  • English Explanation: Before dying, Joseph reminds his family that Egypt is not their permanent home. He prophesies that God will lead them back to the Promised Land.

  • Urdu Explanation: مرنے سے پہلے یوسفؑ نے اپنے بھائیوں سے کہا کہ خدا ضرور تمہاری خبر لے گا اور تمہیں اس سرزمین پر واپس لے جائے گا جس کا وعدہ اس نے ابراہیمؑ، اسحاقؑ اور یعقوبؑ سے کیا تھا۔

Ge 50 25 Verse: And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel saying God will surely visit you and ye shall carry up my bones from hence

  • English Explanation: Joseph made them swear that when they eventually left Egypt, they would carry his remains with them to Canaan.

  • Urdu Explanation: یوسفؑ نے بنی اسرائیل سے قسم لی کہ جب وہ مصر سے نکلیں تو ان کی ہڈیوں کو بھی ساتھ لے کر جائیں۔

Ge 50 26 Verse: So Joseph died being an hundred and ten years old and they embalmed him and he was put in a coffin in Egypt

  • English Explanation: Joseph passed away, was mummified according to Egyptian custom, and placed in a coffin, awaiting the future exodus.

  • Urdu Explanation: یوسفؑ ایک سو دس سال کی عمر میں فوت ہوئے۔ انہیں حنوط کیا گیا اور مصر میں ایک تابوت میں رکھا گیا۔

EXODUS – Chapter 1

Ex 1 1 Verse: Now these are the names of the children of Israel which came into Egypt every man and his household came with Jacob

  • English Explanation: The book of Exodus begins by listing the sons of Jacob who moved to Egypt to escape the famine.

  • Urdu Explanation: کتابِ خروج کا آغاز یعقوبؑ کے بیٹوں کے ناموں سے ہوتا ہے جو اپنے خاندانوں کے ساتھ مصر آئے تھے۔

Ex 1 2 – 4 Verse: Reuben Simeon Levi and Judah Issachar Zebulun and Benjamin Dan and Naphtali Gad and Asher

  • English Explanation: These verses list the twelve tribes of Israel based on the sons of Jacob.

  • Urdu Explanation: ان آیات میں بنی اسرائیل کے بارہ قبائل کے سربراہوں (یعقوبؑ کے بیٹوں) کے نام درج ہیں۔

Ex 1 5 Verse: And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls for Joseph was in Egypt already

  • English Explanation: The total number of Jacob’s direct descendants who moved to Egypt was seventy, including Joseph who was already there.

  • Urdu Explanation: یعقوبؑ کے خاندان کے کل ستر افراد مصر میں جمع ہوئے، جن میں یوسفؑ پہلے سے وہاں موجود تھے۔

Ex 1 6 Verse: And Joseph died and all his brethren and all that generation

  • English Explanation: Time passes, and the original generation that moved to Egypt dies off.

  • Urdu Explanation: وقت گزرنے کے ساتھ یوسفؑ، ان کے بھائی اور وہ پوری نسل وفات پا گئی۔

Ex 1 7 Verse: And the children of Israel were fruitful and increased abundantly and multiplied and waxed exceeding mighty and the land was filled with them

  • English Explanation: Despite the passing of the original leaders, the Israelites grew rapidly in number and strength, filling the land of Goshen.

  • Urdu Explanation: بنی اسرائیل کی تعداد میں بہت تیزی سے اضافہ ہوا اور وہ نہایت طاقتور ہو گئے، یہاں تک کہ وہ ملک میں پھیل گئے۔

Ex 1 8 Verse: Now there arose up a new king over Egypt which knew not Joseph

  • English Explanation: A new Pharaoh took power who did not recognize or appreciate the historical contributions of Joseph.

  • Urdu Explanation: مصر میں ایک نیا بادشاہ تخت نشین ہوا جو یوسفؑ کے احسانات سے واقف نہیں تھا۔

Ex 1 9 Verse: And he said unto his people Behold the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we

  • English Explanation: The Pharaoh felt threatened by the large population of Israelites, fearing they might overpower the Egyptians.

  • Urdu Explanation: فرعون نے اپنی قوم سے کہا کہ دیکھو، بنی اسرائیل ہم سے زیادہ اور طاقتور ہوتے جا رہے ہیں۔

Ex 1 10 Verse: Come on let us deal wisely with them lest they multiply and it come to pass that when there falleth out any war they join also unto our enemies and fight against us and so get them up out of the land

  • English Explanation: Pharaoh planned to suppress the Israelites to prevent them from joining enemies during a war or leaving the country.

  • Urdu Explanation: فرعون نے منصوبہ بنایا کہ ان کے ساتھ سختی کی جائے تاکہ جنگ کی صورت میں وہ دشمنوں سے نہ مل جائیں۔

Ex 1 11 Verse: Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities Pithom and Raamses

  • English Explanation: The Egyptians enslaved the Israelites, forcing them into hard labor to build storage cities like Pithom and Raamses.

  • Urdu Explanation: مصریوں نے بنی اسرائیل پر ظالم ناظم مقرر کیے اور ان سے پیتوم اور رعمیس جیسے شہر تعمیر کروائے۔

Ex 1 12 Verse: But the more they afflicted them the more they multiplied and grew And they were grieved because of the children of Israel

  • English Explanation: Paradoxically, the more the Israelites were oppressed, the faster they grew, causing the Egyptians to fear them even more.

  • Urdu Explanation: لیکن جتنا ان پر ظلم کیا گیا، وہ اتنے ہی بڑھتے گئے، جس سے مصری اور بھی زیادہ پریشان ہو گئے۔

Ex 1 13 – 14 Verse: And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage in morter and in brick and in all manner of service in the field all their service wherein they made them serve was with rigour

  • English Explanation: The slavery became brutal. Israelites were forced into backbreaking work with mortar, bricks, and field labor.

  • Urdu Explanation: مصریوں نے بنی اسرائیل کی زندگی اجیرن کر دی اور ان سے گارے، اینٹوں اور کھیتوں میں نہایت سخت مشقت لی۔

Ex 1 15 – 16 Verse: And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives of which the name of the one was Shiphrah and the name of the other Puah And he said When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women and see them upon the stools if it be a son then ye shall kill him but if it be a daughter then she shall live

  • English Explanation: Pharaoh ordered the Hebrew midwives, Shiphrah and Puah, to commit infanticide by killing all newborn Hebrew boys.

  • Urdu Explanation: فرعون نے عبرانی دائیوں کو حکم دیا کہ وہ پیدائش کے وقت عبرانی لڑکوں کو مار ڈالیں اور لڑکیوں کو زندہ رہنے دیں۔

Ex 1 17 Verse: But the midwives feared God and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them but saved the men children alive

  • English Explanation: The midwives prioritized their fear of God over their fear of Pharaoh and refused to kill the babies.

  • Urdu Explanation: لیکن دائیوں کے دل میں خدا کا خوف تھا، اس لیے انہوں نے بادشاہ کا حکم نہیں مانا اور لڑکوں کو زندہ چھوڑ دیا۔

Ex 1 18 – 19 Verse: And the king of Egypt called for the midwives and said unto them Why have ye done this thing and have saved the men children alive And the midwives said unto Pharaoh Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women for they are lively and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them

  • English Explanation: When questioned by Pharaoh, the midwives claimed that Hebrew women were stronger than Egyptian women and gave birth before the midwives could arrive.

  • Urdu Explanation: جب فرعون نے ان سے بازپرس کی، تو انہوں نے کہا کہ عبرانی عورتیں مصری عورتوں کی طرح نہیں ہیں، وہ دائیوں کے پہنچنے سے پہلے ہی بچے کو جنم دے دیتی ہیں۔
