Detailed Explanation in English
1. “And for this cause”
The phrase “for this cause” points back to what Paul has already explained. In the preceding verses, Paul describes people who are deceived because they did not receive the love of the truth. Their problem is not simply intellectual confusion. They have made a moral and spiritual choice concerning truth.
According to the surrounding passage, deception becomes connected with their refusal to accept the truth. This teaches an important biblical principle: repeatedly rejecting truth can make a person increasingly vulnerable to deception.
2. “God shall send them strong delusion”
The expression “strong delusion” describes a powerful or effective deception. It is not merely a small misunderstanding or an innocent mistake. Paul presents a situation in which falsehood becomes persuasive to people who have rejected truth.
The statement that God “shall send” the delusion should be understood alongside the broader biblical teaching about God’s judgment. Scripture sometimes describes God as giving people over to the consequences of the choices they insist upon. In this passage, the people have already refused truth and embraced unrighteousness.
Thus, the verse is not teaching that God delights in deceiving people who sincerely seek truth. Instead, it presents divine judgment upon those who persistently reject truth.
3. “That they should believe a lie”
The result of the delusion is that these people “should believe a lie.” The contrast between truth and falsehood is central to this entire passage.
A lie can become convincing when a person wants to believe it. People may reject truth because it challenges their desires, pride, lifestyle, or assumptions. Once truth is repeatedly rejected, falsehood can become easier to accept.
This is one reason the verse carries such a strong warning. Spiritual deception does not always appear obviously false. A deception can be persuasive, attractive, or emotionally satisfying while still being contrary to God’s truth.
4. The importance of the surrounding verses
Verse 11 should not be interpreted in isolation. The preceding verses explain why these people experience this judgment. In 2 Thessalonians 2:10, Paul says that they did not receive “the love of the truth, that they might be saved.” Verse 12 then speaks of those who believed not the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
This context is essential.
The passage therefore presents a progression:
Truth is rejected → unrighteousness is preferred → deception is accepted → judgment follows.
The warning is not merely about recognizing false statements. It is also about the condition of the human heart. A person who loves truth will want to test beliefs against God’s Word, while a person who prefers falsehood may eventually become comfortable with deception.
5. A warning against spiritual complacency
This verse should encourage Christians to take truth seriously. Faith should not be based merely on emotions, popularity, traditions, or the opinions of influential people. Believers are repeatedly encouraged throughout Scripture to examine what they hear and to remain faithful to God’s revealed truth.
The verse also warns against assuming that every attractive spiritual message is necessarily true. Deception can be convincing precisely because it resembles truth.
For this reason, Christians should cultivate humility, prayer, knowledge of Scripture, discernment, and a sincere love for truth.
“And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:”
“And for this cause” — “اور اسی سبب سے”
“Strong delusion”
“That they should believe a lie” — “تاکہ وہ جھوٹ پر ایمان لائیں”
