Detailed Explanation in English

1. “That they may believe”

The first important phrase is “That they may believe.”

Moses was concerned about whether the Israelites would accept his message. He had lived in Midian for many years, and he was returning to Egypt with a message that required great faith: that the God of their fathers had sent him to them.

God understood that the people would need confirmation. The signs given to Moses were not simply displays of supernatural power. They served a specific purpose: they were intended to demonstrate that Moses had genuinely received his commission from God.

The miraculous signs helped establish credibility before the people. Moses was not presenting his own personal idea or claiming authority for himself. He was delivering a message from the God whom their ancestors had worshiped.

2. “The LORD God of their fathers”

The verse next says “the LORD God of their fathers.”

This wording is important because the Israelites already had a history with God through the patriarchs. God was not introducing Himself as an unknown deity with no relationship to Israel. He was identifying Himself as the same God who had worked in the lives of their ancestors.

The phrase also emphasizes continuity. The God who appeared to Moses was the God who had made promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

This would have been especially meaningful to the Israelites because their identity was closely connected with the covenant promises given to their forefathers.

3. “The God of Abraham”

Abraham was one of the central patriarchs of Israel’s history. God had called Abraham and promised to make him a great nation and to bless his descendants.

By mentioning Abraham, Exodus 4:5 reminds the Israelites that their present situation was connected with God’s earlier promises.

The God who appeared to Moses was the same God who had called Abraham and established His covenant with him.

Therefore, Moses’ mission was not disconnected from the past. It was part of a larger story that God had been unfolding for generations.

4. “The God of Isaac”

Isaac was the son of Abraham and an important continuation of God’s covenant promise.

The mention of Isaac shows that God’s relationship with Israel was not limited to one generation. The promises continued through the family line.

When God identifies Himself as the God of Isaac, He reminds the Israelites that He had remained faithful through their history.

This is an important biblical theme: God’s purposes continue even when generations change.

5. “The God of Jacob”

Jacob was the son of Isaac and the father of the twelve sons who became the ancestors of the tribes of Israel.

The name Jacob is especially significant in Exodus because the Israelites in Egypt were descendants of Jacob’s family.

By identifying Himself as the God of Jacob, God was directly connecting His message to the people of Israel.

The God who had been with Jacob was now acting on behalf of Jacob’s descendants.

6. “Hath appeared unto thee”

The final phrase says that the God of their fathers “hath appeared unto thee.”

This refers to the divine encounter Moses had experienced at the burning bush. Moses had encountered God and received a specific mission.

The phrase was important because Moses was going to tell the Israelites that God had sent him. The people needed to understand that Moses’ message came from a genuine encounter with God.

The signs therefore served as confirmation of Moses’ testimony.

7. The connection with God’s faithfulness

One of the major lessons of Exodus 4:5 is God’s faithfulness.

Generations had passed since Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob lived. Yet God’s promises had not been forgotten.

The Israelites were suffering in Egypt, but God had heard their cries and remembered His covenant. Moses’ calling was part of God’s response.

This teaches an important spiritual principle: the passage of time does not cancel God’s purposes.

Human circumstances can change, generations can pass, and difficult seasons can continue for a long time, but Scripture presents God as faithful to His promises.

8. Moses was called to serve, not to glorify himself

Another important lesson is that Moses was not being called to make himself famous.

The signs were meant to direct attention toward God. The purpose was that the Israelites would believe that the LORD God of their fathers had appeared to Moses.

This distinction is important. The miracle was not primarily about Moses. It was about God’s authority and God’s message.

Moses was the servant, while God was the One sending him.

9. Application for believers today

Exodus 4:5 can encourage believers to remember God’s faithfulness across generations.

The verse shows a God who works through families, generations, promises, and historical events. The faith of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Moses was part of a larger story.

It also teaches that God’s work does not depend entirely on human strength. Moses had many concerns about his ability, but God provided what was necessary for his mission.

The verse therefore encourages trust in God’s calling and faithfulness while reminding believers to give God the glory rather than themselves.

“That they may believe that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.”

1. “That they may believe” — “تاکہ وہ ایمان لائیں”

2. “The LORD God of their fathers” — “ان کے باپ دادا کا God”

3. “The God of Abraham” — “Abraham کا God”

4. “The God of Isaac” — “Isaac کا God”

5. “The God of Jacob” — “Jacob کا God”

7. God
