The verse begins with the words:

“And they said, Stand back.”

The people of Sodom told Lot to move away. These words show that they did not respect Lot’s position or his attempt to stop their sinful actions. Their command was not a request for peace; it was a demand that he stop interfering.

Lot had lived among these people, but he did not fully share their ways. By standing against their actions, he became a witness against their behavior. The crowd responded with hostility because they did not want their actions challenged.

The people then said:

“This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge.”

They criticized Lot because he was a foreigner among them. They reminded him that he was only a resident and questioned his right to speak about their behavior.

Their statement reveals an important human tendency: people sometimes reject correction by attacking the person who gives it instead of considering whether the correction is true. Rather than examining their actions, they blamed Lot for judging them.

The phrase:

“Now will we deal worse with thee, than with them”

shows their anger and their desire to harm Lot. Instead of accepting his warning, they threatened him. Their response demonstrated how far their society had moved away from justice, mercy, and respect.

The final part says:

“And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.”

پیدائش 19:9 ایک اہم آیت ہے جو سدوم کے لوگوں کے رویے اور حضرت لوط کے ساتھ ان کے برتاؤ کو بیان کرتی ہے۔ اس آیت میں بتایا گیا ہے کہ جب لوط نے اپنے گھر آئے ہوئے مہمانوں کی حفاظت کرنے کی کوشش کی تو شہر کے لوگوں نے غصے اور سختی کے ساتھ ردعمل ظاہر کیا۔

آیت کے الفاظ:

“اور انہوں نے کہا، پیچھے ہٹ جا”
